Temporäres oder permanentes Implantat aus einer MetallegierungTemporary or permanent implant made of a metal alloy

The invention relates to a temporary or permanent implant made of a metal alloy.

The company brochure "cera-nox titanium-niobium-metal/ceramic composite deep-hardened hip joint heads" from o.m.t. GmbH, Lübeck, describes a hip joint head for a hip joint prosthesis that has a conical recess with which the hip joint head can be placed on a complementary conical end of an anchoring part that can be inserted into a femur. The ball head is used to work together with an artificial hip joint socket, which has an outer shell that can be inserted into a prepared recess in the hip bone and anchored there and which has an inner shell made of polyethylene that has a spherical recess that is complementary to the ball head. The ball head then forms a universally articulated hip joint together with this hip joint socket.

The company brochure mentioned above states that due to the high difference in hardness between the ball surface and polyethylene, smooth surfaces without bumps are required in order to ensure minimal abrasion of the polyethylene of the bearing shell. In order to achieve the high hardness of the ball surface and to enable an extremely smooth surface through high-gloss polishing, this well-known hip joint head is coated with a titanium-niobium-ceramic layer.

This company brochure contains nothing about the nature of the surface of the anchoring part, for which this known femoral head is intended.

Vanadium. Die Verwendung solcher Implantate ist daher nachteilig.Commonly known anchoring parts for endoprostheses consist of a metal alloy that contains components that are or could be carcinogenic. One such carcinogenic alloy component is vanadium, for example. The use of such implants is therefore disadvantageous.

Derwent Ref. (Abstract) 88-087889/13 describes an implant of the type in question in which the coating consists of an alloy containing vanadium. The coating is therefore carcinogenic and is therefore only used in places where the implant is exposed to higher loads, e.g. in joints.

Derwent Ref. (Abstract) 87-194481/28 describes an implant whose core is made of titanium or an alloy with it. The alloy does not contain a carcinogenic component, so the problem of carcinogenicity does not arise. This advantage is achieved at the expense of the core's lower mechanical properties. A coating is also used, but only in places where wear can occur, e.g. at joints.

An implant is known from Patents Abstr. of Japan G-895, 18.12.1991, Vol. 15/ No. 500 that is constructed similarly to the previously mentioned implant, i.e. the core of which does not contain any carcinogenic components. The same applies to the implant according to EP 0 640 353 A2.

The invention is based on the object of specifying a temporary or permanent implant made of a metal alloy, in which a carcinogenic property is excluded even if the metal alloy contains a carcinogenic alloy component.

The problem underlying the invention is solved by the teaching specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

Der Grundgedanke dieser Lehre besteht darin, die an sich bekannte Beschichtung aus einem Metall oder einer LegierungThe basic idea of this teaching is to use the known coating of a metal or alloy

Es werden also lediglich die Isolationseigenschaften der Beschichtung ausgenutzt.on the parts of an implant that come into contact with body tissue. Such metals or metal alloys do not have carcinogenic properties and therefore form an insulating layer if the implant itself contains a metal alloy with a carcinogenic alloy component. The coating according to the invention therefore does not serve to improve the surface hardness or smoothness, as in the case of the known hip joint head, but to prevent contact between the body tissue and the implant. Thus, only the insulating properties of the coating are exploited.

The coating can be a titanium-niobium alloy in a conventional manner.
