Description

Shovels are used in mining, archaeology, agriculture, gardening, botany and flower care. They are often used in conjunction with rakes and other hoeing or digging tools.

For some simple and short-term tasks, it is inconvenient to take several tools with you or to have them ready. In this case, a single tool is used, usually a shovel, with the rest of the work being carried out in an imperfect manner. - There are corresponding combination tools for this purpose; from folding spades with an inverted rake on the top to a combination of two tools on the ends of a handle. Wide toy shovels for the sandpit sometimes have rake tines on the front edge. - The disadvantages of folding spades are that the rake is subjected to too much weight, making it cumbersome to handle; the two-combination shovel-rake is cumbersome to transport and handle; the tines on the front edge can cause the shovel to get caught in roots when digging.

The aim is to create a combination device consisting mainly of a shovel with an additional rake function, which avoids the disadvantages of previous solutions, offers advantages in handling and is also suitable for other tasks.

As a solution, short rake tines are embedded in a wave-shaped notch on the right side edge of a one- or two-handed shovel; and these, together with their base, the adjacent shovel area are bent downwards at an angle of 40 degrees.

The middle cross-section of the shovel, including the tine part, takes on the shape of a flattened lying "S" or "Z". The tines are sharpened from above on their front edges. The tine edge forms a chord with the previous shovel edge from the upper corner to the tip area.

The shovel can be pressed into the ground with almost the usual resistance and with equal weight. The sharpenings from above compensate for rotation in solid ground due to braking by the ploughing effect. If roots are an obstacle when digging with a simultaneous backward movement, the tines come loose with a slight left turn while lifting because they are pointing downwards. Raking is done back and forth like a hand broom. The slanted position of the row of tines means that the handle of the rake is sufficiently high above the ground. Solid lumps of earth can be broken up by hoeing and stamping with the tine edge while keeping the tines parallel to the ground. To remove plants, weeds, harvest or transplant, the shovel is inserted steeply downwards in front of it in an inverted position and the plant is dug out by turning to the right, catching the roots with the tine edge. The handle, which is usually set at an angle, facilitates this handling.

This solution is particularly advantageous as a small hand shovel for small gardening jobs, in flower boxes and above all for grave maintenance and natural history due to the convenient portability.
