Abstract
Description
Dachbahnen auf Bitumenbasis mit PolyestervlieseinlageBitumen-based roofing membranes with polyester fleece insert
The invention relates to bitumen-based roofing membranes with a polyester fleece insert and a further insert made of glass fibers with improved properties.
Bitumen-based roofing membranes for covering flat roofs are mainly made up of standardized membranes, which usually each have a carrier insert, mainly made of glass fleece, glass fabric or polyester fleece, which are impregnated with bitumen and then coated on both sides with a bitumen top layer. The carrier inserts are divided into two main groups, namely textile-glass inserts and chemical fiber inserts. Textile-glass inserts are characterized by high dimensional stability and good impregnability, but they have disadvantages in terms of stretchability and other mechanical properties such as tear resistance and perforation resistance. Textile-glass inserts can be processed easily by machine. Chemical fiber inserts, in particular polyester fleece, have good mechanical properties with very good stretchability. However, they are not very dimensionally stable and require much more complex processing than glass fiber inserts. In addition, polyester fleeces can no longer be completely saturated at high grammages, especially if they are consolidated with binding agents or if highly viscous bitumens are used. In addition, chemical fiber inserts are significantly more expensive than textile inserts.
So-called standard and oxide bitumens are used as impregnating and covering compounds for the production of roofing membranes. These bitumens have a relatively low viscosity and are therefore easy to process. However, these bitumens have disadvantages in terms of their resistance to aging and the occurrence of fatigue phenomena. In addition, the temperature behavior does not fully meet practical requirements.
In contrast, polymer bitumens are mixtures of SBS rubber or aPP homo- and/or copolymers, which are modified with distillation bitumen and provided with stabilizing agents and fillers and, if necessary, other additives.
Compared to standard or oxide bitumen, polymer bitumen shows significantly improved ageing resistance and better temperature behavior. However, the disadvantage is the high viscosities, which lead to correspondingly more difficult processing.
Man hat auch bereits versucht, unerwünschte Eigenschaften der Polyestervliese wie geringe Dimensionsstabilität und/ oder ihre Brennbarkeit durch die gleichzeitige Verwendung von Chemiefaser- und Glasfasereinlagen zu verringern; so wird beispielsweise in der DE-OS 3145266 die Verwendung von Polyestereinlagen zusammen mit weniger elastischenIn view of the different properties of the carrier layers and the bitumen used, a compromise was sought; at present, the majority of roofing membranes used consist of a glass fiber fleece, glass fabric insert or polyester fleece, which has a coating on both sides with filled oxide or polymer bitumen. Attempts have also been made to reduce undesirable properties of the polyester fleece, such as low dimensional stability and/or its flammability, by using chemical fiber and glass fiber inserts at the same time; for example, DE-OS 3145266 recommends the use of polyester inserts together with less elastic

Carriers such as glass fleece or glass fabric are proposed to increase the break resistance of the sheets. In the European patent specification 0269989, the use of polyester fleece together with a net-like glass fabric is proposed to improve the fire safety of such sheets.
Despite all the suggestions for improvement to date, the problem still remains that roofing membranes with a polyester fleece insert are difficult to process on modern roofing membrane machines because the insert is not dimensionally stable. It has been found, and this is in line with the applicable DIN standards, that for roof sealing when using polyester fleece as a carrier insert, those with a minimum grammage of 200 g/ m2 must be used. These can practically no longer be completely saturated with highly viscous bitumen and are therefore difficult to process and which, on the other hand, cause such membranes to be relatively expensive compared to membranes with a glass fiber insert. When using this necessarily high grammage for the polyester fleece, only glass fiber fleece or fabrics with very low grammage can be used, as otherwise the rollability of these membranes would be impaired. In practice, however, good rollability is a very important requirement for roofing membranes.
The invention is therefore based on the object of eliminating the described disadvantages of the previously known tracks.
To solve the problem, roofing membranes having the features of claim 1 are proposed.
-4--4-
Surprisingly, it has been found that roofing membranes with an insert made of special polyester fleece and a spaced-apart glass fiber fleece can be produced that fully meet the requirements and have good processability if thermally bonded polyester fleeces with incorporated glass fibers that are not provided with binding agents are used. The incorporation of glass fibers in the manufacture of polyester fleeces in both one and different directions is known per se. Such reinforced fleeces are used as reinforcements in vehicle and plant construction. Depending on the intended use, the grammage of such a fleece can be varied within wide ranges by the number and thickness of the glass fibers. For the purposes of the invention, the glass proportion of the total grammage of the glass fiber reinforced polyester fleece should be over 10 g/m 2. Depending on the required and desired dimensional stability, the orientation of the glass fibers in the fleece can be unidirectional or multidirectional. Polyester fibres which are preferably coated externally with a thin layer of polyamide in a manner known per se are used for the manufacture of the fleece, since it has been found that such fleeces can also be impregnated particularly well with highly viscous polymer bitumen.
Da die Anforderungen an die Zugfestigkeit 1000N oder darüber fordern, läßt sich bei konstanter Grammatur des Glasfaservlieses beispielsweise der Glasfäden- oder Polyesteranteil im verstärken Polyestervlies ohne weiteres variieren, so daß derAt a distance from the polyester fleece, the web contains a glass fibre fleece with a grammage in the range of 30-100 g/m 2 or more towards the outer surface. Since the requirements for the tensile strength demand 1000N or more, the glass fibre or polyester content in the reinforced polyester fleece can be easily varied with a constant grammage of the glass fibre fleece, so that the

The chemical fibre content of this fleece can be significantly reduced. Whereas previously grammages of over 200 g/m 2 were absolutely necessary, according to the invention it is sufficient to assume a grammage of 125 g/m 2 for the polyester fibres and a grammage of 30 g/m 2 for the incorporated glass fibres in order to achieve the tensile strength of a pure polyester fleece with a grammage of 250 g/m 2. This achieves two major advantages, because the reduced chemical fibre content means that production can be significantly cheaper and, in addition, flammability is reduced due to the reduced polyester content. In addition, processability is also significantly improved, particularly when polymer bitumen is used as the impregnating and covering compound, which can otherwise lead to processing difficulties due to its high viscosity. Preferably, only polymer bitumen is used as the impregnating and covering compound. During production, care must be taken to ensure that all inserts are completely saturated, i.e. that the polymer bitumen directly and completely encloses both the glass threads and the polyamide-coated polyester fibers.
The roofing membranes according to the invention have surprisingly good dimensional stability (measured according to the UEatc guidelines) and an excellent maximum tensile strength (measured according to DIN 52123) with good rollability.
Vorzugsweise werden bei Einsatz mehrerer Einlagen diese außermittig angeordnet, so daßInstead of a glass fiber reinforced polyester insert, several such polyester inserts can be used, whereby the proportion of organic insert material can be reduced even further. Preferably if several inserts are used, they are arranged off-center so that

Falls erwünscht, kann die Oberfläche der Bahn in üblicherweise besandet oder beschiefert werden oder mit anderer Oberflächenstruktur versehen werden.the glass fiber fleece and one or at least one polyester fleece insert are in the upper half of the sheet or one or more polyester fleece inserts are in the lower half. If several polyester fleece inserts are used, the individual inserts can have different total grammages. If desired, the surface of the sheet can be sanded or slated as usual or given a different surface structure.
The roofing membranes according to the invention are manufactured in a manner known per se using the calendering process or by means of the usual roofing membrane machines as described, for example, in DE-OS 1409911.
20 The sheets according to the invention have excellent dimensional stability, which is noticeable both during production and during installation. They are inexpensive due to the significantly lower consumption of polyester material. They are also easy to roll and, due to the lower proportion of organic carriers, their fire behavior is much better than that of previously known sheets.

Six different roofing membranes were produced for comparison on a standard roofing membrane machine and their dimensional stability according to the UEatc guidelines and their tensile strength, i.e. maximum tensile force according to DIN 52123, were then examined.
