The invention relates to a vacuum cleaner of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.
Conventional vacuum cleaners of this type usually have an air intake opening on the outside of the housing, to which one end of a flexible hose can be connected using a hose coupling. The other end of the hose is usually connected to one end of a tube, in particular a telescopic tube, which in turn is provided with a suction nozzle or similar adapted to the respective application at the other end.
Der Schlauch muß daher zwar ausreichend flexibel, aber auch ausreichendThe hose in such vacuum cleaners serves the purpose of being able to guide the suction nozzle to all the places within the reach of the hose when the vacuum cleaner is stopped. On the other hand, the hose is also generally used to pull the vacuum cleaner housing, which is usually mounted on wheels or similar, behind it. The hose must therefore be sufficiently flexible, but also sufficiently
This means that conventional vacuum cleaner hoses are only very slightly stretchable in their length and nowadays usually have a length of around 180 cm. As a result of this arrangement, the hose is extremely bulky and inconvenient when handling, transporting and storing the entire vacuum cleaner. Even if the hose is separated from the housing using the hose coupling, this does not change because it takes up a lot of space at the length mentioned and cannot be bent into any shape without risking damage.
The invention is therefore based on the object of designing the vacuum cleaner of the type described at the outset in such a way that its hose no longer causes interference.
The characterizing features of claim 1 serve to solve this problem. Further advantageous features of the invention emerge from the subclaims.
Es zeigen:The invention is explained in more detail below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings using an exemplary embodiment. They show:

Fig. 4 und 5 schematisch die Aufteilung eines erfindungsgemäßen Staubsaugers in je einen unteren und oberen Abschnitt;Fig. 4 and 5 schematically show the division of a vacuum cleaner according to the invention into a lower and an upper section;
Fig. 6 and 7 each show a side and front view of the hose according to the invention; and Fig. 8 shows a detail of the hose according to Fig. 6 in a greatly enlarged view.
According to Fig. 1 to 3, the vacuum cleaner according to the invention contains a housing 1 in which an air suction device operated by an electric motor is housed in a manner known per se and therefore not shown individually, with all the necessary parts such as a filter system, a dust bag or the like. In addition, a receiving channel 2 is formed in the housing 1, which has an elongated shape and whose wall has an inner cross section that essentially corresponds to the outer cross section of a vacuum cleaner hose 3. The receiving channel 2 has a suction opening 4 in the housing 1 at one end, which is connected to the air suction device in the usual way and not shown in detail. At the other end, the receiving channel 2 borders on an outer housing opening 5. This is dimensioned and arranged in such a way that the hose 3 can be pulled out through it when in use or can be fed back into the receiving channel 2 when the vacuum cleaner is not in use.
The receiving channel 2 is preferably arranged in a lower section of the housing 1 and, if necessary, is curved as shown in Fig. 1 or in another way in order to be able to accommodate the entire hose 3. In addition, the section that accommodates the hose 3 is expediently large enough that, when the vacuum cleaner is not in use, it can also accommodate the usual accessories such as nozzles 6 of the usual type, a tube or telescopic tube 7, brushes 8 or the like.
The housing opening 5 can be conveniently closed by means of a flap 9 that opens outwards.
The hose 3 is preferably made of a material that can be stretched to a high degree, so that the length of the receiving channel 2 can be chosen to be correspondingly short. The hose 3 is expediently designed so that it can be elastically stretched in its longitudinal direction by at least twice, preferably even more.
In one variant, the hose 3 is guided in the receiving channel 2 so that it can move longitudinally in such a way that its inner end can be pulled forwards to the housing opening 5. In this case, means are provided on the hose 3 and/or on the receiving channel 2 which

In addition, the wall of the receiving channel 2 should be largely airtight in this case because the inner end of the receiving channel 2 acts as a suction opening here and a good suction effect must be achieved even when the hose 3 is pulled out as far as possible.
In the variant shown in the drawing, the inner end of the hose is fixed axially in the area of the suction opening 4, so that the hose 3 can only be pulled out of the housing opening 5 with an elastic change in length. This has the advantage that the hose 3 automatically contracts again after being released and retracts into the receiving channel 2. In this case, the wall of the receiving channel could also consist of an air-permeable material, provided that the air suction device is directly connected to the inner end of the hose. As with the first variant, however, a receiving channel 2 made of an air-impermeable and very slippery material such as Teflon-coated polyvinyl chloride is preferred here too, primarily for reasons of improved sliding properties.
Fig. 1 shows the arrangement of the hoses 3 in the receiving channel 2 in the non-use position. In Fig. 2, the flap 9 is open and the pipe 7 is connected to the free end of the hose by means of a conventional coupling piece. The other accessories have already been removed from the housing 1. Finally, Fig. 3 shows the use state, in which the hose 3 is stretched in the longitudinal direction and is therefore partially arranged outside the housing 1.
As shown in Fig. 4 and 5, the vacuum cleaner according to the invention is expediently composed of two sections or halves 10 and 11 arranged one above the other, which are connected at one end by a hinge and can be folded out in the manner shown in Fig. 5, while at the other end they are connected to one another by a closure (not shown). The receiving channel 2 is preferably accommodated in the lower section 10 and is designed as a cartridge that can be easily inserted into the housing 1 and replaced, so that in the event of damage it can be replaced together with the hose 3 as a complete unit.
According to Fig. 6, the hose 3 consists essentially of a spirally wound spring or steel wire 14, the individual windings 15 of which abut one another when at rest and which is sheathed or coated with a polyvinyl chloride material or the like, for example. The wire material is selected so that the hose 3, with an external diameter of e.g. 40 mm and an internal diameter of e.g. 32 mm, can expand from an initial length of e.g. 40 cm when at rest to a length of approx. 180 cm when fully stretched (stretch factor approx. 4.5).
The wire windings 15 are covered from the outside with a textile or plastic material (e.g. polyurethane) in order to produce a largely air-impermeable hose 3. For this purpose, the windings 15 are connected to strip-shaped webs 16, which are also laid in a spiral shape, as shown in Fig. 6 and 8, the lateral edges of which rest on the windings 15, are arranged alternately above and below one another and overlapped, and are firmly connected to one another and to the windings 15 by welding, gluing or the like. Fig. 6 shows these webs 16 in the folded state, which occurs automatically in the rest position, while Fig. 8 shows the webs 16 in the axially fully stretched state, which determines the elastic length extensibility of the hose 3.
The invention is not limited to the described embodiments, which can be modified in many ways. This particularly concerns the composition and manufacture of the hose 3 and its maximum stretchability. It is also possible to assign a braking device to the rollers on which the housing 1 is supported in order to prevent the housing from making jerky movements when the hose 3 is stretched or when it is pulled out of the receiving channel 2. It is also possible to fix the inner end of the hose in the receiving channel 2, for example so that it cannot move axially but can rotate so that the hose 3 can rotate about its longitudinal axis when it is pulled out and is not twisted.
