Verfahren zur Darstellung von Anthrachinon.Process for the preparation of anthraquinone.
Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 15. Februar 1914 ab. Längste Dauer: 6. Juni 1928.Patented in the German Empire on February 15, 1914. Longest duration: June 6, 1928.
The patent 283213 relates to a process for the preparation of anthraquinone from anthracene, which consists in the fact that anthracene in the presence of a suitable solution or thinner with nitric acid only at temperatures below 60 ° treated and the conversion of the intermediate product formed to anthraquinone in the presence of nitric acid at a higher temperature.
The observation has now been made that mercury salts greatly enhance this reaction influence in a more favorable way. This influence is expressed in a smoother reaction

This influencing of the reaction obviously takes place in both reaction phases and is particularly effective with less pure anthracene varieties. She seems to be in it insist that the reactions are accelerated in the meso position, so that a nitration of the outer nuclei does not take place or takes place only to a minimal extent.
In the first phase, the influence of the mercury is already exerted externally claims that the solution of the anthracene in the presence of mercury nitrate at lower Temperature and occurs much more quickly than in the absence of mercury.
Organic mercury compounds are formed at the same time, especially with less pure anthracene varieties in extremely small quantities, which can be removed by boiling with dilute nitric acid. It was now further found that mercury-free anthraquinone is obtained directly if one after the reaction has ended, introduces chlorine in the heat for a short time.
A solution of 3 g of mercury in 460 g of 31 percent nitric acid is allowed to flow in at 30 ° over the course of 3 hours with stirring. Complete dissolution occurs even before the nitric acid has run in. To remove the carbonaceous impurities often contained in technical anthracene, it is filtered. The filtrate is heated three more hours to 35 0th The nitric acid is then separated off. 360 g of nitric acid of 15.6 ° Be are recovered. A solution of 5 g of mercury in 55 g of nitric acid 40 ° Be is added to the nitrobenzene part and heated to 105 ° in 25 minutes, for example. The temperature rises rapidly to 120 °, after which chlorine is passed in for about 10 minutes at about 110 °. After cooling, the anthraquinone crystals are filtered off with suction, washed out with nitrobenzene and petroleum ether and dried.
/ Beispiel 2./ Example 2.
Die Temperatur steigt dann noch rasch auf etwaA suspension of 110 g of anthracene with a purity of 91 percent in 300 g of nitrobenzene is allowed to run in a solution of 5 g of mercury in 460 g of 31 percent nitric acid over a period of 3 hours and the mixture is stirred for a further 3 hours at 35 °. 385 g of nitric acid of 16.6 ° Be are deposited on it. A solution of mercury nitrate prepared from 1 S § mercury i * 1 55 S nitric acid 40 ° Be is allowed to run into the nitrobenzene part and heated gradually, ie in about 1 1/2 hours to 60 ° and from there quickly to 105 °. There is a yield of 105 to 110 g Anthraquinone with a melting point of 278 to 280 ° (uncorr.) Obtained.
A solution of 15 g of mercury in 230 g of nitric acid 40 ° Be and 100 g of water is allowed to flow into a suspension of 117 g of anthracene a 5 85 percent in 500 g of nitrobenzene at about 10 ° and the mixture is stirred for a few hours at 30 °. Then gradually, in about ι hour, heated to 105 ° and held for some time at this temperature. The precipitated Anthrachinonkristalle are suction filtered, washed with nitrobenzene, treated with steam, boiled out with dilute nitric acid, filtered off with suction, washed 3 ^ and dried. Of course, instead of treating with dilute nitric acid, chlorine can be introduced in the manner described in Examples 1 and 2 here as well.
