Abstract

The device has clamping arms (1) and (2) connected with each other by a hinge (3) loaded by a sring (4). The arm (2) is fitted with a leaf spring (5) facing plate (6). This assembly keeps the blocking device in the open position. The open position of the blocking device is cancelled by pushing down a pin (8) which acts on the leaf spring (5). An arm (1) is also fitted with a tongue (9) acting against the pull of the seat belt strap but allowing the strap to slide in the tightening direction. The blocking device is mounted on the strap by attaching it to the eyelet (11) near the diverting fitting of the strap so it can be easily accessible by the user once the seat belt is put on.

Description

The invention relates to an automatic seat belt which serves as protection against impacts for people in vehicles. For example, so-called automatic three-point seat belts have been in use for many years in motor vehicles. A retraction device is provided at one end of the belt, which causes it to be rolled up when not in use and pulled taut over the body when it is put on. A greater return force is required so that the rolling up, in particular, always runs smoothly. However, this means that this force acts on the body even when the belt is on. Many people now find this force annoying, which can lead to the fact that, contrary to the regulations, in many cases the belt is not put on. It is therefore the object of the invention to provide an automatic seat belt which does not have the disadvantages mentioned above and in particular eliminates the belt forces acting on the body. The solution is given in the characterizing part of the first claim. The lock has the effect that the pulling force of the retraction device is neutralized and no force from the belt acts on the body when the belt is in place, because after the belt is folded over and locked into the holding device and the lock is released, the lock comes into effect. This results in a tension-free belt section in the body area without impairing the desired effect of the belt as an impact protection. The following claims contain further refinements with the aid of which a practicable use of the belt is made possible with a built-in lock. A device is built into the lock that enables it to be released so that it can be rolled up after the belt has been taken off. This is done by briefly tightening the belt, in which one of the clamping arms has a tongue which is under spring pressure and is directed against the direction of pull of the belt, which clamps the belt and presses the clamping arm open. The release device is automatically locked in the open position so that the belt can be rolled up again even after the belt has been tightened. To later release the lock, a release mechanism is provided which enables the belt to be pulled out normally, but which activates the lock according to the invention again. It is achieved in a simple manner that the belt can be pulled out, locked, withdrawn and pulled out again in accordance with the respective position of use.

So that the release device of the lock and the release mechanism of the unlocking lock can be conveniently set in function by the people getting in and out, the lock is provided at the upper deflection point of the belt, where it can be reached at any time. Another advantage of the lock according to the invention is that it can be assembled from conventional devices and installed at any time. If the design is open on one side and has two clamping arms, this results in a significant further simplification, because the belt does not have to be loosened at any point for the purpose of installing the lock. It is sufficient to simply insert the belt between the two clamping arms, which can be done at any point on the belt, but preferably according to claim 3 at the upper deflection point of the belt by additional hooking into the bracket provided here. The invention is explained in more detail with the help of drawings: The figure shows a perspective view of a lock. This consists of two clamping arms 1 and 2, which are connected to one another via a joint 3 and a compression spring 4. The arm 2 has a leaf spring 5 which faces a disk 6 with the step 7 attached to the arm 1. This device represents the locking of the open lock when the leaf spring 5 is in contact with the step 7. A release of the lock is made possible by pressing down the pressure pin 8 connected to the leaf spring 5. On the arm 1 there is also provided a tongue 9 which is under spring pressure and is directed against the pulling direction of the belt, with the aid of which the automatic opening of the arm 1 when the belt 10 is tightened is effected. The lock, which is preferably attached to the deflection point of the belt 10 with the eyelet 11, clamps the belt against the tension spring of the return device (not shown) and thereby prevents the contact pressure on the body.
