Abstract
Description
"Anordnung zur Ermittlung der Absorption einer durchdringenden"Arrangement for determining the absorption of a penetrating
Radiation in a planar examination area "The invention relates on an arrangement for determining the absorption of penetrating radiation in a flat examination area with a large number of on a first circular ring Evenly distributed radiation sources that can be switched on one after the other are, and a plurality of on a second, concentric to the first circular ring Circular ring evenly distributed arranged detector elements.
Fig. 3 bekannt. Such an arrangement is known from DE-OS 26 11 706, especially FIG. 3. The advantage of such an arrangement is that - if there are enough radiation sources are arranged on the circumference of the first circular ring - a mechanical movement the Radiation sources or the detector elements are no longer required to obtain the absorbance readings used to reconstruct the absorbance distribution are required within the investigation area. Because a mechanical movement can therefore be omitted, the measurement can be carried out very quickly, so that with such an arrangement also includes fast moving objects, e.g. a patient's heart, can be examined.
In the known arrangement, the diameter of the first circular ring is on which the radiation sources are arranged, smaller than the diameter of the concentric second circular ring on which the detector elements are arranged.
The detector elements on the one hand and the radiation sources on the other must be arranged in different levels, otherwise the (opposite) Radiation sources that would absorb radiation emitted by a radiation source. This has the disadvantage that with such an arrangement there is no planar examination area is irradiated; this results in errors in the reconstruction.
When the radiation sources on the one hand and the detector elements on the other would be arranged on a semicircle, the detector elements and the Radiation sources are arranged in the same plane, but would also then Errors in the reconstruction result. An error-free reconstruction is namely only possible if the examination area is irradiated from an angular range that by at least the opening angle of the beam masked out by a source is greater than 1800. In the case of an arrangement with radiation sources arranged on a semicircle However, the examination area is only irradiated from an angular range of 1800.
The object of the present invention is to provide an arrangement of the above called type in such a way that they are necessary for an error-free reconstruction required measured values supplies.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that both circular rings lie in the same plane that the diameter of the second circular ring is smaller is than the diameter of the first circular ring and that each detector element is the Radiation emitted by the radiation sources is only partially absorbed and so arranged and it is designed that there is an approximately uniform in the examination plane Attenuation of the radiation by the detector elements results.
Because the detector elements on the one hand and the radiation sources on the other are arranged on a full circle and because the detector elements and the radiation sources lie in the same plane (which is also the examination plane), can with the The measured values supplied by this arrangement show the absorption distribution in the plane examination area be completely reconstructed. Because the diameter of the second circular ring, on which the detector elements are arranged, is smaller than the diameter of the The first circular ring on which the radiation sources are arranged passes by radiation emitted by a radiation source initially one or more detector elements, before it penetrates the investigation area and from the beyond the investigation area (with respect to the radiation source) arranged detector elements is measured. Therefore, the detector elements must not completely absorb the incident radiation absorb, because otherwise they would shield the examination area. That's why they must also be arranged and designed in such a way that they are in the examination plane an approximately uniform attenuation of the radiation by the detector elements results; i.e. the detector elements must not have any absorption jumps in the examination plane have, because otherwise the radiation penetrating the examination area spatially would be modulated accordingly.
The detector elements that are hit by the X-rays Before it penetrates the examination area, they should be switched off in each case, when the assigned radiation source is switched on, in order to avoid overdriving the detector elements or the downstream amplifier circuits.
The invention is illustrated below with reference to one in the drawing Embodiment explained in more detail. 1 shows a cross section through a Examination device in the examination plane in a schematic representation, Fig. 2 shows a cross section in a plane perpendicular to the plane of examination through a Part of such an examination device and FIG. 3 shows an embodiment for the Detector elements.
In FIG. 1, 3 designates a device base which has a support ring 4 wearing. On the support ring 4, a plurality of rings are arranged on a circular ring 6 Radiation sources attached.
One of these radiation sources is indicated schematically in the drawing and denoted by 7. The bundle of rays emitted by it penetrates the circular one Examination area 2, its marginal rays are denoted by 9 and 10, while the central ray running through the center 11 of the examination area 8 is designated. A is on the support ring 4 in a manner not shown in FIG with detector elements occupied circular ring 5 attached, which is concentric to the circular ring 6 is arranged. The radiation sources and the detector elements are located in the same Level.
Between the ring 5 with the detector elements and the ring 6 of the radiation sources there is an annular diaphragm 12 made of radiation-absorbing material, preferably Lead, which contains an opening 13 for each radiation source, which is dimensioned to that the masked out beam in the examination plane covers the examination area 2 can include straight.
The ring 6 with the radiation sources has a compared to the examination area 2 large diameter. This allows the aperture angle of the beam (i.e. to limit the angle between the marginal rays 9 and 10) to 500 or less. Between the ring 6 of the radiation sources and the ring 5 of the detector elements must there is a sufficiently large distance to avoid too high a radiation density and thus excessive stress on the detector material during the first passage of the radiation to avoid by the detector ring. On the other hand, the diameter must also of the detector ring 5 is significantly larger than the diameter of the examination area 2, so that the angular range under which the radiation hits the opposing detectors occurs, is kept as small as possible and also the spread of the detector sensitivities.
Fig. 2 shows in a perpendicular to the examination plane be a Section through a radiation source and a detector element as well as the support ring. The radiation source consists of an X-ray emitter, which is an X-ray tube in a housing 76 75 contains, with a fixed anode 70 that can be connected to high voltage, a control grid 72 and a cathode 71 operated at ground potential. The housing 76 is with the support ring firmly connected. It has a window in the area of the anode that allows the function one of the openings 13 in Fig. 1, i.e. it hides the openings indicated by the dashed lines Lines 80 indicated X-rays of the plane perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, fan-shaped the end. In front of the radiation exit window in the housing 76 there are several flat, thin metal sheets arranged parallel to the examination plane. These sheets (not shown in Fig. 1) have the shape of a circular ring concentric to the examination area 2 (FIG. 1) and serve to take.
Dadurch wird die spezifische Belastung der Detektorelemente herabgesetzt.X-rays emitted at an acute angle to the examination plane, which do not reach the opposing detector elements (not shown) would absorb. In the interior of the sheet metal ring 78 is therefore a Bundle of rays running essentially parallel to the plane of examination emitted, which is about as thick as the desired layer thickness (about 1 cm). The X-ray tube 75 must therefore be constructed so that the projection of the focal spot parallel to the plane of examination corresponds at least to this thickness. This will the specific load on the detector elements is reduced.
It is also possible to have several fixed anode x-ray tubes in one joint Housing be arranged, with all anodes and all cathodes each conductive to one another are connected and only the grids 72 are controlled via separate leads. This results in a more compact structure.
However, as is known from DE-OS 26 11 706, X-ray tubes can also be used are used whose electron beam is deflected electrostatically or magnetically and scans anode elements arranged on a circular arc one after the other, so that such an x-ray tube could replace several discrete x-ray tubes.
Several detector elements are located in the X-ray beam 80 50 (Figo 2 shows only one of them because the others are covered), each of the Have the shape of a circular arc element concentric to the examination area 2 and are a few millimeters thick. They preferably contain a scintillation crystal made of bismuth germanate, which is in a chamber 51 against incident light and optionally is also arranged protected against scattered radiation from the X-ray tube.
As can be seen from Fig. 3, several detector elements in one common chamber 51 be arranged. The direction perpendicular to the plane of the drawing one behind the other arranged scintillation crystals 50 are on their to the longitudinal axis vertical face with light guides 561 ... 564 coupled, their other end is connected to optical converters 551 ... 554, which one on the intensity of the light in the respective light guide generate a dependent electrical signal. As can be seen from FIG. 3, the one connected to the light guides 561... 564 is located Front side of the scintillator crystals outside the area penetrated by the X-rays Area, so that the light guides and the transducers 551 ... 554 coupled to them Cannot weaken X-rays. If necessary, the chamber walls 52a .. .52b are also made of lead in order to make up the, together with the scintillation crystals 50 elements forming a detector element in front of the incident X-ray radiation to protect. The chamber 51 is adjustable with the parallel via its base plate 523 to the beam path, but offset to the examination plane arranged annular Plate 53 connected, which in turn is connected to the support ring 4 (Fig. 2).
In an absorption measurement with the arrangement according to the invention between the interconnected anodes of all radiation sources on the one hand and a suitable high voltage (approx. 120 kr) for the connected cathodes, while the control grids are sequentially controlled so that only one at a time X-ray tube emits radiation, the first immediately in front of the respective X-ray tube lying detector elements and then the layer to be examined of the Body shines through. The amplification devices associated with each of these detector elements and transducers are switched off during the on-time of this X-ray tube to avoid overdriving. The X-rays weakened by the body become detected by the detector elements arranged beyond the examination area and their measured values are stored in a known manner and sent to a computer Determination of absorption forwarded. Then another X-ray tube is used switched on etc.
In this way, the examination area becomes sequential the end interspersed with an angular range of 3600 and measured the associated absorption values.
Einflüsse der Inhomogenitäten innerhalb des Detektorringes auf die örtliche Intensitätsverteilung der Strahlenbündel bzw. auf die Meßwerte können dadurch erfaßt werden, daß Meßwerte aufgenommen werden, wenn innerhalb des kreisförmigen Untersuchungsbereiches kein Körper angeordnet ist Aus den dabei ermittelten Meßwerten kann die örtliche Intensitätsverteilung für Jedes Detektorelement für jede Jeweils eingeschaltete Strahlenquelle berechnet und zur Korrektur der INeßwerte herangezogen werden, die gewonnen werden, wenn im Untersuchungsbereich ein Körper angeordnet Bst.Influences of the inhomogeneities within the detector ring on the local intensity distribution of the beam or on the measured values can thereby can be detected that readings are taken if within the circular No body is arranged in the examination area From the measured values determined in the process can be the local intensity distribution for each detector element for each respective activated radiation source is calculated and used to correct the measured values obtained when a body is placed in the examination area Let.
