Außerdem haben Metallventile noch den Nachteil, daß bei ihrer Verwendung sehr leicht Verletzungen der Spieler während des Spiels durch Loslösen des Metallventils vorkommen, was namentlich bei Bällen, die den Vorzug haben, daß man sie ohne öffnung der Verschnürung von außen aufpumpen kann, nicht selten der Fall ist. Die Neuerung besteht darin, daß in dem zum Abschluß ventil führenden Kanal des Ventilmundes, in welchen das Mundstück der zum Aufpumpen dienenden Luftpumpe eingeführt wird, ein Gummizapfen angeordnet ist, der dicht in den Kanal paßt, und welcher mittels des Schnürriemens zum Schließen des Ledermantels befestigt ist, so däß das Verschlußstück im Ventilmund während des Gebrauchs unbedingt festgehalten ist und sich weder von selbst lösen noch verschieben kann. Zum Lösen des Verschlusses ist es nur notwendig, den Lederriemen aufzuziehen, worauf sich das Verschlußstück durch den inneren Überdruck von selbst aus dem Ventilmund heraushebt. Die Zugänglichkeit des Ventils wird durch den neuen Verschluß in keiner Weise beeinträchtigt.
