Eine ausreichende Lagerschmierung ist damit nicht mehr gewährleistet. Die Anbringung einer zusätzlichen Lagerabdichtung bei solchen Lagern scheitert in der Praxis meist am dafür erforderlichen Platzbedarf. Es wäre hierzu erforderlich, den Außenlaufring in axialer Richtung zu verlängern, um genügend Bauraum für die Befestigung der weiteren Abdichtung zu schaffen. Dieser zusätzlich benötigte axiale Bauraum steht in vielen Anwendungsfällen jedoch nicht zur Verfügung. Die Lösung der gestellten Aufgabe kann alternativ auch derart erfolgen, daß der Walzlageraußenring in einer Ausnehmung den umlaufenden Rand der Abdeckkappe aufnimmt, die ihrerseits eine umlaufende Innennut besitzt, in die ein mit dem Wälzlagerinnenring zusammenwirkender Dichtring eingesetzt ist. Beiden Lösungen ist gemeinsam, daß am Wälzlageraußenring stets nur eine einzige Ausnehmung (Umfangsnut) vorgesehen werden muß, so daß der Wälzlageraußenring in seinen Abmessungen und seinem Querschnitt völlig einem solchen Walzlageraußenring entspricht, wie er für ein einfaches abgedichtetes Wälzlager verwendet wird.
