Abstract

The remote indicating pressure gauge for vehicle tyres enables tyre-pressure readings to be taken whilst the vehicle is in motion. A miniature pressure sensor fitted to the filler valve within the tyre (21) operates a current-controlled frequency-modulated transmitter. The transmitter signal is picked up in a receiving aerial loop laid in the roadway (28). The signal is demodulated to operate a pressure indicator (32). Power for the transmitter circuit and transducer is provided by a high-frequency inductive-loop (36) also embedded in the road surface. The inductive loss system is driven from a 28 volt supply and HF oscillator operating in the 250kHz to 30 MHz range with a power output of some 150 Watts.
