After heating, the water is passed through the filter bed to desorb it and is then cooled and returned to the effluent inlet channel. Since, in order to back-flush a filter, it is of advantage to utilise an appreciably higher temp. than during the adsorption onto the filter material, the use of heat which would otherwise be wasted enables the back-flushing to be carried out considerably more economically at an only slightly increased cost.
