Bearbeitbarkeit verbindet.Machinability connects.
Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 21. Juni 1912 ab.Patented in the German Empire on June 21, 1912.
The invention relates to nickel alloys which have high chemical resistance connect with good mechanical workability.
Nach den aus der Literatur bekannten Eigenschaften des Nickels, des Kobalts und der Nickel-Kobaltlegierungen ist zwar von vornherein eine ziemlich hohe chemische Beständigkeit solcher Legierungen gegen SalpetersäureAccording to the properties of nickel, cobalt and the Nickel-cobalt alloys have a fairly high chemical resistance from the outset such alloys against nitric acid
In the case of a nickel alloy with more than 50 percent cobalt, especially around 60 percent cobalt, a high maximum resistance zone against diluted nitric acid, even against chloride-containing nitric acid, could no longer be easily forged, rolled or otherwise mechanically processed. It has now been possible to increase this machinability by adding a small amount of silver. Silver only dissolves to a very limited extent in nickel below the melting point of this metal and almost not at all in cobalt, but even amounts of silver which are below the saturation point of nickel for silver increase the machinability of the nickel-cobalt alloys to a remarkable extent. Even more striking is the fact that this low addition of silver increases the chemical resistance of the alloy, especially when one takes into account that silver has a high dissolution tension in nitric acid and is not one of the passivable metals. Despite all these apparently unfavorable circumstances, nickel alloys with over 50 percent cobalt, ideally with around 60 percent cobalt, with the addition of less than 1 percent silver, ideally around 0.4 percent silver, have been made mechanically easy to process and chemically so to make such alloys resistant that such alloys are hardly attacked by nitric acid, yes, what is most striking, even by very dilute nitric acid, even in the absence of chlorides such as Na Cl.
