PATENTBESCUREIBUNG PATENT COVERAGE
Electrical shielding of cables and wires and procedures too Their Manufacture The invention relates to a shield for cables and conductor rails using new conductive foils, which are used in cables with round or approximately round cross-section as well as rectangular or elongated Cross-section, e.g.
Ribbon cable, can be used with advantage. Further concerns the Invention typical process steps by means of which different variants of the Shielding according to the invention produced or integrated into a conventional cable can be.
With many cables and wires, which either carry high-frequency currents or carry signals or are in the vicinity of such ITF cables1 the requirement arises to the actual ladder elements from a light, space-saving, cheap yet highly effective electrical shielding must be surrounded.
In addition, there are often additional boundary conditions that the .Nbschirmung As flexible as possible, kink and break-proof, heat-resistant, chemically inert and resistant to Microorganisms should be resistant. Furthermore, electrical shields should be behave neutrally towards the primary insulation of the conductors, ie. these neither chemically still attack electrolytically cut into it when bending the cable or press in. Finally, the shields should be easy to remove, in particular if the assembly, i.e. connection of the plug-in connectors, is carried out automatically Devices takes place.
It is known first of all, the shielding of cables and wires made of fine wires that cover the primary insulation, in the form of a single or to build up multi-layer braid. This type of shielding is widespread, however relatively time and material consuming. Removing the cables is problematic, not at all Rare the wire mesh must be spliced open with care. The shielding effect * - even in central cases, - can be over 70%, since the network is natural cannot be "tight", i. e. Has cover holes. Also wears a braided The shielding is relatively rigid, each wire forms TI ° ch and low points. Through this there is a latent risk that the shield wires in the primary insulation at bending points solid, especially in the case of soft, high-quality dielectric insulating materials such as e.g.
Polytetrafluoräthylen (PTFE) oder geschäumtem Polyäthylen (PÄ).Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or foamed polyethylene (PÄ).
Should such cables and lines provided with a braided shield be automatic are assembled, so there is because of the penetration of the shield wires into the Primary insulation the risk that the primary insulation when the shield is removed damaged.
It is also known that fine wires are closely spaced and helicoidal around a primary insulated conductor. This type of shielding is available in some cheaper than a braided shield. So the production is less material-intensive, the shielding effect can be around 80 V0 and wound shields are relative insensitive to bending. The disadvantage is that wound screens are damaged if they are damaged the wires can easily be unwound, making assembly with automatic machines hardly possible and that wound screens have a relatively high inductivity.
It is also known to use electrical shields made of thin metal foils manufacture, which is wrapped as a tape around the primary insulation or into a tube be bent and welded.
The shielding effect is almost perfect, but cables shielded in this way are hardly flexible, with tight bends the shield plate buckles, tears or kinks, which leads to considerable changes in the electrical properties of the cables. Above all, the animal positioning of such foil screens requires considerable mechanical engineering Expenditure.
It is also known to use metallized paper or plastic foils wrap the primary insulation of a conductor and put one in Longitudinal direction insert running drain wire. Such foil screens are very light but sensitive against tension, pressure, kinking and frequent bending. Show such shielded lines after a few bending cycles there are often cracks in the shielding film caused by the drain wire can only be bridged inadequately.
It is also known (as an additional measure to the above Applying conductive pastes to shields, especially in the case of braided shields, which e.g. should plug the braid holes. This creates the umbrella effect though Significantly improved, but the production as well as the processing of such paste-filled ones Umbrellas create a lot of dirt. Therefore, the processing of such shielded cables using automatic assembly machines as well as in production facilities with high purity requirements problematic.
Finally, conductive wet, which are thin or liquid, is known be applied pasty to the primary insulation of a conductor and then harden to be used as a shield. However, such conductive masses do not exist can really get through because their shielding effect is weak. Next there is mostly Problems with the solvents or plasticizers that make such conductive compounds contain. In addition, such conductive pastes are generally neither heat nor chemical resistant.
After all, cables with this kind of shielding can hardly pass through machines can be assembled.
While the above and known types of shielding, some of which can also be varied, with so-called round cables or Conductors with an approximately round cross-section are used as shields known only in a few variants for so-called flat cables or ribbon cables.
In order to shield ribbon cables as a whole against external fields, e.g. metallic or metallized foils1 which have a large number of holes or coarse-meshed wire mesh in which, as a rule, is laminated from several foils Integrated ribbon cable.
The holes or stitches are required to cut the on both pages of the foil shield lying insulation foils of the cable are to be laminated one below the other or to be welded.
Affect the holes in the shield required for lamination the shielding effect is considerable. Also, keep in mind that ribbon cables usually are particularly flexible and insensitive to kinks, as in contrast to round cables - with correctly manufactured edge cables - all conductors in the bend-neutral plane of the cable A foil shield is always aalßerhalh in ribbon cables neutral plane, so that the cables lose their flexibility and are very sensitive to kinks will.
It is also known to use ribbon cables from individual, shielded Leter elements (Coax lines) to be set up; whose shielding corresponds to that of round cables and was already discussed.
For some time now, for the transmission of fast pulse trains, as required in data technology, so-called precision signal ribbon cables manufactured. Din DT OS 22 22 227 describes the manufacture of such ribbon cables. A The characteristic of these signal ribbon cables is that they contain relatively thin conductors, which are usually grouped into two, three or five systems. With these systems One conductor, usually the middle one, serves as the actual signal carrier the neighboring conductors represent both the return conductor and the electrical shield. In the case of a five-in-one system, on the other hand, the two outer conductors can be used as a pure protective screen, which is grounded, the next two conductors as a ground shield, which is connected to the signal transmission is involved and the inner conductor is viewed as the "hot" conductor carrying the impulses will.
Such shields are of course not perfect. Crosstalk values of io and 12% are not uncommon. If several cables are operated in a stack or if they lie flat against metallic surfaces, the impedance of the systems decreases often by 20 to 30%. The assembly of such signal ribbon cables also prepares which are usually attached to so-called platinum plugs, causing considerable problems iind is in series production without complex tools such as laser devices and precision spot welding or point soldering devices can hardly be achieved.
Here is an example: A typical connector unit with an impedance of 100 ohms consists of two board plugs and four ribbon cables each length. The required A piece of cable approx. 4 m long costs just under DM 40, the entire unit up to DM 400 depending on the type of platinum connector. The connection unit contains 4 x 20 = 80 pipe systems, this results in the costs per line system of approx. 400: 80 = 5, - DM per Signal path. But since each signal path consists of 3 wires each wire consists of both sides must be attached, you get 3 x 80 = 240 wires and 480 connection points with costs of - .83 DM per Arisch termination point. These costs can be due to the application a shield according to the invention can be significantly reduced.
In order to improve the crosstalk in the case of ribbon cables in the stack, often metal foils are also placed between the ribbon cables. This measure can at best should be seen as a stopgap measure, but by no means as a practicable technique.
The invention is based on the object of developing a shield, the universal for round cables and lines as well as for ribbon cables and lines, as well for cables and wires with irregular cross-sectional geometry, such as for stranded pairs and the like, is applicable. The shield should be simple and nn can be integrated into the respective cable at any point, cost-effectively be, have low weight and small footprint, highly flexible and with ribbon cables even be kink-proof, chemically and electrolytically resistant and inert by Microorganisms are not attacked, optionally against magnetic or electrical Shield fields, both as a passive protective shield and as an active, signal-carrying shield The umbrella can be used easily and without problems both by hand and by automatic machines Can be assembled, if necessary in close contact with the primary insulation stand without indenting the insulation - even with soft or foamed materials, nicked or deformed, easily peeled off the primary insulation, If necessary, they can also be laminated with the primary insulation and connected homogeneously can have an acceptable longitudinal resistance, in several layers upset and can be easily connected to the shields of neighboring lines. Furthermore, the method v to produce shields according to the invention should be easy to manufacture , i.e. in all major manufacturing methods for both ribbon cables and for Round cables can be easily integrated.
The object is achieved according to the invention in that the shield consists of conductive plastic foils. These conductive foils are preferably made of unsintered PTFE, which with at least 0.1 % of a conductive substance - called conductive pigment - filled i.e. enriched Substances such as powdered coal, artificial charcoal, graphite, soot and are suitable as conductive pigments the like as well as various finely granulated metal powders made of stainless steel, magnetizable Stainless steel, chrome, nickel silver, bronze and similar materials.
With conductive foils of this type, it is crucial that with the lowest possible filling of conductive pigments, the highest possible conductivity is achieved because too high a filler content makes the films permeable to moisture and will make harmful gases. Therefore, z.fl. thermoplastic materials less Suitable as materials without a liquidus point, enriched with conductive pigments and as Screen foils to be used. An antistatic effect is achieved with thermoplastics, especially with those with a sharp liquid kink, only with a relatively high one Proportion of conductive pigment reached because the polymer is thin during processing and the pigment particles are enveloped and isolated from one another.
It is now generally known that the material PTFE does not have a liquidus point but has a gel point, a sintered material with excellent electrical, chemical and mechanical properties is enriched with various fillers and - as an emulsion polymer - can be processed into films. But this is enough Far from being enough to optimally meet the requirements of the task at hand. In fact, no experiments have shown that the conductivity of paste-extruded PTFE films by no means depend solely on the amount of conductive pigment mixed in depends. Four main factors are the orientation of the PTFE molecules during processing PTFE powder is crucial to foils too. Conventionally manufactured PTFE foils have a predominantly axial (longitudinal) orientation. That leads to a relatively high conductivity in the longitudinal direction, while transversely hardly any conductivity can be determined.
This surprising finding can be explained. PTFE powder made with Conductive pigment has been enriched, is practically ntir on the surface of the individual PTFE granules pollinated. During the production of the foils, small ones are formed from the PTFE powder Fibrils (the so-called orientation) and therefore small conductive threads. Runs this orientation is predominantly axial, so the conductivity is in the transverse direction (transversal), that matters, only inadequate. A shield according to the invention with optimal electrical properties therefore requires conductive foils with a balanced orientation in at least two directions.
From DT-OS 21 25 535 a method is also known to produce PTRE films with a cross-diagonal, transversal and axial orientation (so-called dta foils) to produce, the diagonal orientation even necessarily in the outer Layers of the dta foil is concentrated. Such dta foils are used, for example, as primary insulation of lines, coax cables and precision signal ribbon cables according to DT-OS 22 22 227 used. It is of crucial importance that such dta films specially designed for extremely high lamination properties, a property which plays a central role in the present invention and in conventional ones PTFE foils are not available at all or only very poorly.
With an appropriate design of the process for the production of dta foils succeeds because the diagonal component of the orientation both in the longitudinal and in The transverse direction is effective, the overall orientation is very balanced, even if necessary train mainly acting in the transverse direction. Are such dta foils with approx. Filled with 0.1 to 5% conductive pigment, this surprisingly results novel Conductive foils with relatively low square resistances, down to less than Ioo ohms can sink. If you integrate such a shielding film with a width of approx. 20 mm, e.g. in a ribbon channel and only inserts two tracing wires in the longitudinal direction, this results because of the parallel position of all resistance squares of 20 mm width on one meter Cable length 50 pieces, so that the total shield resistance is only 2 ohms. If, on the other hand, the conductive film of a 20 mm wide ribbon cable is removed from the In the example above, if there are four tracer wires, the distance between the ladders to just under 7 mm; This means that there are approx. 145 resistance squares for one meter of cable. When the square resistance of the conductive film was 100 ohms, the shield resistance was to about 0.7 ohm abs in no.
A primary-insulated conductor is sheathed with a junction capable Foil according to the invention and surrounds the foil screen with a conventional braid made of fine wires, the shield resistance surprisingly drops to extremely low values, which are even significantly below the value that the braided shield alone devoted lairde. The reason for this is on the one hand that the screen foil through the overlying braided shield, which can even be extremely coarse-meshed may, is divided into a multitude of smallest resistance ranges, which are among each other are connected in parallel, while on the other hand the wires of the braided shield in the soft conductive film sink in a little and therefore cover a large area with the shielding film can come into contact.
The above examples show that the size of the The conductivity of the shielding foils is usually of minor importance, and that under certain conditions a shield according to the invention even when used of high-resistance conductive films can still have useful properties according to the invention Shielding lengths can be produced and constructed in different variations. In the case of ribbon cables with primary insulation made of PTFE, the conductive foil in the laminated in the unsintered state and the laminate is subsequently sintered, so that a homogeneous bond between primary insulation and screen foil arises. Of course, ribbon cables can be covered with conductive shielding foils on both sides provided, which improves the shielding effect. In both cases, however, it is assumed that the conductors of the Dandlcabel are bare and initially between two foils as primary insulation are embedded.
On the other hand, the conductors are first used as individual elements with primary insulation E.g. made of PTFE and sintered, so you can connect these lines directly between Lay two sheets of unsintered, conductive PTFE, laminate and the laminate sinter. The two laminated, conductive foils form with their filler wires the shielding according to the invention and are homogeneously connected to one another while the primary insulated conductors are not or only slightly welded to the laminated foils - which benefits the flexibility of the cable and advantages when assembling Obviously you can play with ribbon cables according to the following examples are built up, on top of the conductive foils another foil made of unsintered Laminate PTFE so that secondary insulation is created. Another variant, in order to integrate a shield according to the invention in ribbon cables, consists in Primarily insulated conductor of only one conductive foil, about half an arc to be enclosed and this arrangement of insulated conductors and a shielding film to be placed between two non-conductive foils and laminated. About the long resistance to reduce the foil shield, it makes sense to use one or more bare filler wires, which are in contact with the shielding foils.
Ribbon cables, constructed according to the above examples, are in principle Coaxial cable with several parallel coaxial elements.
Even with round cables and lines with an approximately circular cross-section Shields according to the invention can be integrated in different variants. The variant of a shield according to the invention for round cables described above, consisting of at least one conductive film and an overlying wire mesh can be produced on the one hand by placing the shielding foil helicoidally around the primary-insulated ladder wrapped or the conductive screen foil with a squire Overlap placed like a shell around the primary insulation and then with a Braided shield, which can easily be very coarse-meshed, is surrounded. Of course, you can put another shielding film or secondary insulation over the wire mesh raise. Furthermore, according to the invention, conductive screen foils can be used in an expedient manner Combination, - e.g. a first one filled with graphite or soot and a second one Screen foil filled with magnetizable steel powder, - arranged one above the other be a protective screen against both electric and magnetic fields to build.
Some essential features of the shield according to the invention are intended can be explained using the following example: A commercially available coax cable with a Primary insulation made of foamed PL and conventional, braided screen bare, silver-plated wires were examined. After that, the secondary insulation including braided shield removed and instead of braid shields according to the invention Shielding, consisting of an unsintered foil filled with 3% conductive pigment PTFE and a wide-meshed wire mesh and with a secondary insulation Mistake. The new braided shield was only made from approx. 20 94 of the original existing shield wires formed. Comparative measurements showed an improved Shielding effect. The permissible bending radius could be reduced by more than half, the weight of the cable was significantly reduced, the flexibility - (resistance. against bending) - improved almost three times. The interference signal9 was also clearly reduced which is caused in the coaxial cable by severe bending. The wire mesh could cut through without risk for the actual primer insulation during assembly The pull-off force required when removing the shield was just under 60, the one required on a standard coax cable. The wire mesh sank Places high mechanical stress around 50% of the wire diameter in the shielding foil was inserted, but the primary insulation made of foamed PA was not deformed or notched.
Conductive foils are preferably made from such polymers the liquidus point runs through during processing have to. These are e.g. the emulsion polymers of PTFE, in which the molecular compound is generated due to Van-der-Waal shear forces. Co-polymers are also used the fluorocarbon group, whose molecular bonds are partly or predominantly are based on Van der Waal's forces.
Pure thermoplastics or elastomers, such as polyethylene or polyurethane, are suitable as a starting material for conductive shielding foils because of the relatively there is less danger of a fill quantity of conductive pigment and can only be used to a limited extent.
On the other hand, if you use PTFE or one of its raw materials, for example Co-polymers can be used with relatively small amounts of conductive pigment, preferably between 0.1 and 5%, already achieve good conductivity, with the generated conductive foils can be used optionally sintered or TMsintered and can be laminated as long as they have the balanced orientation of dta films.
From the above it can be seen that conductive screen foils Made of PTFE in combination with other materials, e.g. Pj 'or PU, it is advisable be left unsintered. Surprisingly, it was found that conductive Films made of PTFE, especially those with dta orientation despite the presence of Leitpgmenten are still outstandingly capable of being laminated. This results in the possibility a shield according to the invention in a given round or ribbon cable firmly 7, U integrate if the cable in question is also made of unsintered material that can be laminated PTFE has been manufactured. This gives the option of shielding foil and primary insulation of a cable homogeneously by placing the shield on the Unintertly manufactured cables are applied and laminated, and finally as a whole sinters.
The multitude of conceivable variants can best be seen on the basis of the The examples shown and described below, of course, only recognize them are to be viewed as a small selection of significant application possibilities.

Also these examples of a shielding of ribbon cables according to the invention can be varied in many ways.
From the above embodiments of the inventive Shields can be seen that there is usually no complex machine or process technology A precaution or measure is required in order to produce shields according to the invention. In the case of round cables and wires, it is sufficient to provide additional individual process steps, most of which can even be built into the normal production process.
For example, during the production of a braided Wire shielding a process step can be inserted, in which the shielding foil is helicoidally wrapped around the primary element or folded longitudinally and possibly the filler wires are fed. A shield consists of several If shielding foil and / or insulating foil made of unsintered PTFE are used, it can be useful be the finished cable before the sintering process through a so-called star calender, Consisting of three or four rollers arranged in a star shape, their profile at the point of contact of the rollers form a gap corresponding to the cable profile to pull around the This means that foils can also be laminated.
The manufacturing process steps are somewhat more complicated a shield according to the invention in ribbon cables. Here it is depending on the structure of the cable and the number of film layers required to work with calenders, the 2 or even 3 aligned pairs of rollers and an additional 2 to Have 4 rollers. For obvious reasons, details would be too extensive here lead. But one can assume that for each additionally applied insulating film or shielding film or a further lamination process for each additional pair of films is required. This can take place in a second or third calender nip or in a second or third pass through the same calender be made. It is necessary to reduce the compression and shear of the to precisely coordinate individual lamination processes or calender runs. The compression and shear in the first lamination process should preferably be about like in every other like 1: to each other, otherwise it would lead to lamination breaks can come. Since the relationship between compression and shear when laminating unsintered PTFE photo is determined by the size of the calender rolls it is evident that it is advantageous with a double or triple arrangement to work from two calender rolls each with correspondingly graduated diameters.
The advantages of the present invention are many and varied given by the fact that the broad task can be fulfilled. For one Set of cables and wires with a shield according to the invention there are mainly technical advantages - this is especially true for ribbon cables with foil screen. In other cases, the economic benefits outweigh. These are given with most coax and shielded multi-conductor cables that if you need fewer shield wires, braid them relatively loosely and with a wide mesh can and therefore the production time is significantly reduced. But it is the same Applications are conceivable where the use of a shield according to the invention for round conductors and cables gives significant technical advantages. Here, above all, are highly flexible, shielded measuring lines or cables with the lowest possible weight for the aviation industry to be mentioned. On the other hand, it is obvious that by using an inventive Shielding for ribbon cables is possible, including considerable savings. Based on that Example of Eonfektionierung a loo-ohm signal cable with mentioned above 60 conductors, 40 of which are earth conductors, can first be determined by an arrangement of shielding foils according to FIG. 11 38 earth conductors can be eliminated. The largest But savings would consist in the fact that the cable could become narrower instead of of the previously required 2 x 60 = 120 connection points per cable only 2 x 22 = 44 conductors would have to be attached, with the primary insulated wires even inexpensive techniques like mini wrap would offer. not during assembly of round cables, in particular coax cables, result in a similar way in addition to technical ones Economic advantages too.
