The invention relates to color pastes, in particular a printing medium for the production of these color pastes which allow smudge-proof prints for decorative purposes and the like using the Sieo printing process to be produced on ceramic moldings that are subjected to a subsequent firing process.
It is known, for this purpose, to apply inorganic pigments together with or without glass frit to ceramic shaped bodies to raise. However, these do not yet have any mechanical strength in the unfired state, so that in the case of the Handling of the moldings intended for the fire by blurring leads to an excessive amount of rejects.
A'thylenglykol, 1,2-Propandiol, 1,4-Butandiol, 1,6-Hexandiol, PoIyäthylenglykole, Polypropylenglykole, Ester höherer Carbon-Color pastes of this type were previously made from mixtures of pigments from the series of oxides of heavy metals, such as Fe, Co, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mn, V, W and the like, as well as rare earths and possibly glass frit and grinding agents such as glycerine, ethylene glycol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, polyethylene glycols, Polypropylene glycols, esters of higher carbon
säuren mit niederen einwertigen und höheren ein- oder mehrwertigen Alkoholen, höhere aliphatische und aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe u.dgl. hergestellt.acids with lower monovalent and higher mono- or polyvalent ones Alcohols, higher aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and the like.
In the case of the hydrophilic compounds mentioned in this series, it was possible to incorporate water, which resulted in a rational and cheaper application of these pastes resulted, but the desired smear resistance is both with the aqueous as well as with the non-aqueous pastes in any case not given.
As a result, it was not possible to have a satisfactory overprint different colors.
It has now been found that these disadvantages are avoided and smudge-proof prints with sharp contours are achieved, if one uses conventional, hydrophilic compounds, such as alcohols, as a grinding agent containing color pastes aqueous solutions low to medium molecular weight polyacrylamides or corresponding copolymers added.
The aqueous solutions of the polyacrylamides or the corresponding copolymers are used in concentrations between 10 and 40, preferably 15 and 50 %,> in particular between 20 and 25 % , the polymerization products having molecular weights between 10,000 and 500,000. Polymers with molecular weights between 50,000 and 20,000 are preferably used. To set a viscosity that is particularly suitable for the pressure, it is expedient to use mixtures of polyacrylamides and / or copolymers thereof with different molecular weights.
Die Bestimmung der Grenzviskositäten erfolgt nach Houben-WeylWhen optimally have intrinsic viscosity values between 20 and 200 ml / g, preferably between 50 and 100 ml / g (as measured in distilled V / ater at 20 0 C by Ubbelohde) were found. The limit viscosities are determined according to Houben-Weyl

Possible copolymers of acrylamide are those of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile and other monomers, provided they form water-soluble copolymers, with acrylamide making up at least 50 % of the copolymer. Copolymers with acid functionality are used in the form of their salts, such as, for example, potassium, sodium or ammonium salts.
The invention thus relates to a printing medium for the production of water-containing, smudge-proof, drying color pastes for decorations on ceramic surface structures, as well as the color pastes containing as such a printing medium. According to the invention, the printing medium of the color paste consists of aqueous solutions of polymers and / or copolymers of acrylamide, preferably mixed with liquids which are miscible with water. The proportion of aqueous polymer solution is generally between 20 and 8o, preferably between 30 and 50 wt .- ^, the proportion of water-miscible liquid (preferably a high-boiling alcohol) at SO to 20, preferably between 20 and 50 wt. - %, based on the print medium. The water-miscible, hydrophilic liquids expediently have a higher boiling point than water and a lower volatility in order to prevent undesired changes in the viscosity of the color paste during storage. The higher-boiling alcohols, such as glycerol, ethylene glycol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, polyethylene glycols, etc., are preferred as water-miscible liquids, etc. The invention also relates to a color paste for production of smudge-proof prints on ceramic moldings which contain at least one inorganic pigment as the ink carrier and furthermore the printing medium according to the invention, in addition to any other additives.

ORIGINALORIGINAL
In view of the state of the art, it was surprising that the printing media according to the invention both in the onglaze as well as in the Can also be used in the underglaze process (biscuit printing).
This is contrary to the earlier statement (Singer-Singer "Industrielle Keramik", Vol. II (Ι969Ϊ, page 472 ff) that aqueous-alcoholic pigment slurries in bisque printing the incorporation of a water-soluble binder because of the Make "blotting paper effect" useless.
The pigment slurries according to the invention can still be used add other customary binders such as aminoplast precondensates or polyvinyl alcohols.
Customary auxiliaries such as polyphosphates or polyacrylates can also be used.
To produce the color pastes, mixtures of frit and color pigments were added to the aqueous-alcoholic solutions according to the invention added, the ratio of aqueous solution to pigment between 1: 1 to 3: 7 *, preferably 4: 6 can.
The color pastes were made in the usual manner on a three-roll mill rubbed and then applied to ceramic surface material with an automatic printing machine (Nasetti system).
