Der in der Zeichnung dargestellte Apparat ist mit einem abnehmbaren Handgriff, der gleichzeitig als Bremse dient, c'onstruirt und soll den Vorzug haben, dafs er eine Verwendung nach beiden Richtungen hin gestattet. Er besteht aus einem Kasten A, der unten und oben je eine Oeffnung α zum Durchlassen des Seiles C hat, welches in der in der Zeichnung veranschaulichten Weise um die Seilrollen B gezogen wird. Aufsen sind am Kasten A Augen D vorgesehen, die an ihren gegenüberliegenden Seiten bei b geschlitzt sind, um den Ring oder Handgriff D' aufzunehmen. Dieser besteht aus zwei flachen, seitlichen Stäben d, dem oberen eigentlichen Handgriff und der unteren runden Qaerstange c, die in die innere Oeffnung der Augen D pafst und sich darin drehen kann. Beim Einbringen dieses Ringes D' in das eine oder das andere der Augen D bringt man denselben zuerst in die in Fig. 3 punktirt angedeutete Lage, schiebt die Stange c in die Augenöffnung ein, wobei die flachen Seitenstäbe durch den Schlitz b gleiten, und dreht dann den Handgriff nach oben. Das obere Seilende wird bei eintretender Feuersgefahr am Fensterkreuz oder einer anderen passenden Stelle des brennenden Gebäudes befestigt und der der Gefahr Entfliehende bindet sich mit einem Riemen oder Gürtel an den Apparat an oder hängt sich mit dem Hosenträger an denselben, wobei er den Handgriff D' ergreift und gegen das Seil zieht. Durch die Belastung sinkt der Apparat naturgemäfs nach unten, indem die Geschwindigkeit seiner Abwärtsbewegung durch die Reibung des über die Rollen B und auf- und übereinanderlaufenden Seiles und ferner nach Belieben durch das stärkere oder schwächere Andrücken des als Bremse wirkenden Handgriffes D' gegen das Seil regulirt wird, während zur Noth auch noch das frei herunterhängende Ende des Seiles C um den Kasten gelegt werden kann, um das Niedergleiten zu verlangsamen oder ganz zu unterbrechen.The apparatus shown in the drawing is constructed with a detachable handle, which also serves as a brake, and is said to have the advantage that it can be used in both directions.
