Es ist eine bekannte Erscheinung, daß Gummiwaren jeder Art bei längerem oder kürzerem Lagern, namentlich auch beim Ge-" brauch hart und brüchig werden, sie verlieren ihre Elastizität. Die Lebensdauer von Schläuchen, Rad- und Automobilreifen ist unter gewöhnlichen Verhältnissen eine relativ ^ sehr kurze. Vorliegende Erfindung bezweckt, den Gummi geschmeidig zu erhalten und widerstandsfähiger zu machen, denn es ist gefunden worden, daß Terpineol, auf den Gummi ; gebracht, diesen vor dem Hart- und Brüchigwerden bewahrt, indem es ihn fest und ; elastisch erhält. Die besten Resultate werden erzielt, wenn man eine Emulsion von : Terpineol mit Wasser darstellt und damit den Gummi einreibt; am brauchbarsten ist eine Emulsion, die 3 bis 5 Prozent Terpineol enthält. Da die Emulsion beim Stehen sich entmischt, so macht man bindende Zusätze, wie Tragant, Gummi arabicum, wasserlösliches öl ο. dgl.
