The invention relates to an electrophotographic recording material with greatly improved properties, especially sensitivity and durability.
Nachteilig an den bekannten elektrophotographischen Aufzeichnungsverfahren ist jedoch, daß die als Bindemittel für die Photoleiter-Schicht und zur Ausbildung der durchsichtigen isolierenden Schicht dienenden organischen, hochmolekularen Harze die auf die Koronaentladung (bei der es sich im Hinblick auf die üblichen elektrophotographischen Verfahren um eine zusätzliche Maßnahme handelt) zurückzuführenden elektrophotographischen Eigenschaften des AufzeichnungsmatenalsIt is known to produce image copies by electrophotographic means in that in a photoconductive layer of an electrophotographic recording material consisting of an electrically conductive layer support, a photoconductive layer and a transparent insulating layer, a latent electrostatic image is generated by charging and exposure at least twice, the latent image with will help develop a dry or wet developer and transfer the developed image to a receiver sheet (see. for example, Japanese Patent Application Nos. 23 910/1967, 19,748 / 6 S 1967 24 748/1968 and 2 SOEs / 1973 as well as the United States. - Patents 34 38 706, 36 15 395, 36 92 519 and 77 751). For example, a method was developed in which an electrophotographic recording material, consisting of a layer substrate, a customary photoconductor layer applied to it and a transparent, generally insulating layer located on it, subjected to a first charge and then the recording material simultaneously with the exposure to a The original is subjected to a second charge either by ac corona discharge or by electric charging of a polarity set to the polarity of the first charge to form an electrostatic latent image. If necessary, the charged recording material can also be exposed to an overall exposure. Furthermore, a method has been developed in which a recording material of the type described is subjected to a first charge in light and then in the dark to a second electric charge with a polarity opposite to the polarity of the first charge, whereupon the charged recording material is subjected to the formation of a latent electrostatic image an original is exposed. The two electrophotographic recording processes described have undergone a wide variety of modifications, but at least two stages of charging were required. The electrophotographic recording processes concerned have the admitted advantage that substances of low resistance and high sensitivity, such as cadmium sulfide and cadmium selenate, can be used as photoconductors in the recording material used here. The disadvantage of the known electrophotographic recording processes, however, is that the organic, high molecular weight resins used as binders for the photoconductor layer and to form the transparent insulating layer have a negative effect on the corona discharge (which is an additional measure with regard to the usual electrophotographic processes is) attributable to electrophotographic properties of the recording material

When selecting the respective glass, however, it is of essential importance compared with a conventional clektrophotographi that there is no recording material that contains an organic, high-molecular resin (as a binder in the Production of the respective recording medium) for the photoconductor layer and react with the photoconductor to form the material. As an inorganic photoconductor, the electro- the electrophotographic recording material according to the invention can contain a higher sensitivity; of the invention, materials with resinous binders have already been used as well as an inorganic compound with one. Examples of this are compounds dielectric constant of 10 2 to 10 4 incorporated from chalcogens and zinc or cadmium, as was cad, the resolving power of the dissolving sulfide, zinc oxide, cadmium selenate, cadmium is also greatly improved. Aus 15 Gewichtsprozent B2O3 p. a., 18 Gewichtsprozent SiO2 p. a., 25 Gewichtsprozent BaO p. a., 8 Gewichtsprozent Na2O p. a., 14 Gewichtsprozent K2O p. a., 14 Gewichtsprozent ZnO p. a„ 4 Gewichtsprozent TiO2 p. a. und insgesamt 2 Gewichtsprozent Li2O p. a., PbO p. a. und Al2O3 p. a. wurde ein Gemisch hergestellt. From 15 percent by weight B 2 O 3 pa, 18 percent by weight SiO 2 pa, 25 percent by weight BaO pa, 8 percent by weight Na 2 O pa, 14 percent by weight K 2 O pa, 14 percent by weight ZnO p. a “4 percent by weight TiO 2 pa and a total of 2 percent by weight Li 2 O pa, PbO pa and Al 2 O 3 pa, a mixture was produced. The resulting mixture was transferred to a contaminant-free aluminum trioxide crucible and melted together by heating to a temperature of I KKD C for about 3 hours. The melt obtained in this way was poured into water, a granular, solid glass mass being obtained. After adding 40 ml of distilled water, 100 g of the glass mass obtained were wet pulverized by grinding for 21 hours in a porcelain ball mill, a glaze being obtained which fell through a sieve with a mesh size of 0.044 mm without leaving any residue. 65 g of a commercially available, activator-free, yellow cadmium sulfide powder were then added to the glaze obtained and dispersed therein by homogenizing for 10 minutes. The dispersion obtained was applied with the aid of a spray gun to a completely degreased 0.3 mm thick stainless steel plate (18 Cr, 8 Ni) before the cadmium sulfide and glass powder began to precipitate. After the resulting coating was dried and just before cracks appeared in the coating, the stainless steel plate was placed in a 596 ° C electric oven and left for 6 minutes. Here, a 60μ thick photoconductive layer was formed on the steel plate by calcining. A 15μ thick insulating layer was formed on the photoconductive layer by applying the glass mass prepared as described above, drying and calcining the coating, completely washing off excess glaze after Jem calcining with water and drying again.
The electrophotographic light-sensitive material thus obtained was then initially positively charged by corona discharge in light and then negatively charged in the dark.
