Abstract

A light beam projector mounted on each wheel on the same axle projects a beam onto a scale fixed to the other wheel. The two projectors are fixed to their respective wheels in such a way that when the wheels are aligned parallel to each other each beam impinges on a zero mark on the corresponding scale. The scales may be provided with a light reflecting surface and an anti-glare cover. The projectors and scales may be fixed to plates attached to the brake drums. The misalignment of the wheel track is generally never greater than 5 deg. so that a turning of the scale through such an angle will not effect the measurement result.
