Description
The invention relates to an advantageous process for the preparation of l-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid (Bromanic acid) by brominating l-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid in aqueous Phase.
It is produced by adding l-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid to bromine. This produces 2,4-dibromo-1-aminoanthraquinone as a disruptive by-product due to the leaching of the sulfonic acid group by bromine. Various measures are described in the literature which are intended to reduce this side reaction which reduces exploitation. According to the information in US Patents 2,440,760 and 2,503,254, in FIAT 1,313, II, page 214, or German Patent 598,779, one of these measures is that the sodium salt of l-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid should be in fine suspension. For this purpose, special salting out regulations are given in the patents. In addition, to avoid a locally high bromine concentration during the bromination, according to all of the patents mentioned, the bromine is added in the form of a solution in hydrochloric acid. US Pat. No. 3,428,659 describes the bromination of 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid in a mixture of water and a water-immiscible inert solvent at the neutral point. For this purpose, the reaction mixture that is formed during the sulfonation of the 1-aminoanthradhinone in the inert solvent is introduced into water and the heterogeneous mixture is neutralized. Before the start of the bromination, enough of an acid-binding agent is added so that the hydrochloric acid formed is captured by the alkali metal salt and so the bromination takes place in the neutral range. The process has the disadvantage that only half of the valuable bromine used
ausgenutzt wird. .is exploited. .
It has now been found that l-Ammo-4-bromanihraquinone-2-sulfonic acid in high yield and only to a minor extent l-Amtno-2,4-dibromanthraainone by brominating I-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid in the aqueous phase in the presence of an acid-binding agent! when you get the Performs bromination in the pH range 2 to 5 at temperatures between -5 and + 30C, with if necessary, the bromide formed during the bromination by adding oxidizing agents oxidized to bromine in the pH range from 2 to 5.
Nach dem Verfahren erhält man 1-Amin .-4-bromanthrachinnn-2-sulfonsäure in einer Ausbeute von 90 bis 95 % der berechneten, bezogen auf die eingesetzte l-Aminoanthrachinon-2-sulfonsäure.The process gives 1-amine-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid in a yield of 90 to 95% of the calculated yield, based on the 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid used.
The reaction is usually felt in such a way that that the l-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid in Enters water and adjusts the solution to a pH between 2 and 5, e.g. B. by adding Sodium or potassium carbonate or of sodium or potassium hydroxide. The weakly acidic solution is then at temperatures between -5 and + 30 "C, advantageously between -5 and 0 C mixed with the calculated amount or a slight excess of bromine. Advantageously, will the bromine was added under the surface of the reaction mixture. During the bromination is the pH of the reaction mixture until the reaction has ended by adding basic substances Means held between 2 and 5. Sodium hydroxide is used as a basic agent, Potassium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, potassium hydrogen carbonate or mixtures thereof.
In order to also utilize the bromide formed during the reaction for the bromination, it is advantageous to proceed in such a way that the bromination can only be carried out with 0.5 to 0.6 moles of bromine per mole of 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid carried out and after the addition of bromine, the bromide formed by oxidizing agent, like sodium or potassium hypochlorite, at pH 2 to 5 and in the temperature range between -5 and + 30 X oxidizes and thus makes it useful for bromination.
The eromination can also be carried out in such a way that, instead of the bromine, alkali bromides or their solutions are used from the start and the bromination is carried out at pH 2 to 5 by adding oxidizing agents. During the addition of the oxidizing agent, the pH of the reaction mixture is kept between 2 and 5 by adding acid. B. sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and other acids that do not react further with hypochlorite are suitable.
After completion of the reaction, the mixture is worked up in a known manner to l-amino-4-bromoanthradiinone-2-sulfonic acid, after from the reaction mixture formed as a by-product l-amino-2,4-dibromanthradiinone z. B. has been separated by filtration. Since in the method according to the invention only relatively small amounts of the 2,4-dibromo compound
B. in Form des Ammoniumsalzes gefällt und abgetrennt werden.stand, the work-up of the reaction mixture much easier. The desired T-AmincM-bramanthraquinone ^ sulfanic acid can be obtained from the filtrate z. B. precipitated in the form of the ammonium salt and separated.
The yield of 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid is usually between 90 and 95%, based on the calculated yield.
