Abstract

A flash tube has in internal gas pressure above 600 mm Hg. It is energized by a capacitor having an operating voltage such that the ratio of the discharge gap of the tube to said operating voltage is no greater than 0.5 cm per 100 volts and having a capacitance such that the voltage will not drop by more than 15 percent upon reaching peak current through the tube. In one embodiment the tube has two electrode chambers connected by a duct and the chambers, but not the duct, are cooled. In a second embodiment there are two radiators, one for UV radiation and the other for IR. In one form, these two radiators are flash tubes operated in a timed manner so that the maximum of the IR radiation from one coincides with the maximum of the UV radiation from the other.

Electronic flash tube made of UV-permeable quartz glass, which has a discharge channel between two electrodes and expanded electrode spaces lying outside the discharge channel having, characterized in that the quartz glass is a synthetic quartz glass. Härtungsprozessen in z.B. Lacken oder Druckfarben verwendet. Es kommt dabei darauf an, möglichst hohe Stromspitzen in der Blitzröhre zu erzeugen, wodurch kurze, aber intensive kurzwellige (UV)-Strahlungsblitze entstehen (DT-OS 2120 777).A strobe light arrangement is proposed been, for the generation of high-intensity short-wave radiation flashes using a means an ignition electrode ignitable electronic flash tube and a storage capacitor, which extends over the electronic flash tube discharges. This electronic flash tube is made with such a small resistance operated in the discharge circuit that the peak current of the discharge is essentially only through the Flash tube is intended. The use of a flash tube is suggested as particularly expedient, which consists of UV-permeable material and a discharge channel and one outside of the discharge channel lying dead space, the volume of which is at least equal to the volume of the discharge channel is. Such an arrangement is related to photoimitation Used by drying or hardening processes in e.g. paints or printing inks. It comes with it on generating the highest possible current peaks in the flash tube, thereby short but intense Short-wave (UV) radiation flashes arise (DT-OS 2120 777). There are such lightning arrangements Experiments have been carried out with the flash tubes made of UV-permeable natural quartz glass were manufactured. These tests were carried out in compliance with those described in the older DT-OS 21 20 777 Initially satisfactory criteria. Over time, however, there was a significant subsidence, the achievable hardening or drying effect. The present invention is based on the knowledge that this decrease in the hardening or drying effect is due to an aging effect of the quartz the flash tube, through which the flash tubes turn slightly bluish, and the ciie permeability for UV greatly reduced. The invention is based on the object of creating a flash tube which is specially designed for flashing light arrangements for photoimitation of hardening or Drying processes provided and designed in this way is that the radiation required for this is generated and effective. ic Die Erfindung betrifft somit eine Elektronenblitzröhre aus UV-durchlässigem Quarzglas, welche einen Entladungskanal zwischen zwei Elektroden und außerhalb des Entladungskanals liegende erweiterte Elektrodenräume aufweist und besteht darin, daß das Quarzglas ein synthetisches Quarzglas ist.The invention thus relates to an electronic flash tube made of UV-permeable quartz glass, which forms a discharge channel between two electrodes and has expanded electrode spaces lying outside the discharge channel and consists in the fact that the Quartz glass is a synthetic quartz glass. It has been shown that for an optimal hardening or drying effect and for the emergence the short-wave radiation required for this, a rapid increase in current to a relatively high one. Such a current increase is caused by the shape of the flash tube according to the invention favored. Due to the expanded electrode spaces that are outside the actual discharge path are the pressure increase of the gas in the tube, which is caused by the heating as a result of the Discharge occurs, kept low. This keeps the resistance of the tube low, so that in the discharge there is a rapid rise to a high current. This increase will only be minor so durch eine Druckerhöhung infolge Erwärmung der Gasfüllung gebremst. With this increase in current, however, the one that is important for photoimitation evidently arises short-wave radiation. When using synthetic quartz glass (see company publication Q-A 1/111 Heraeus-Schott) is this radiation even in continuous operation through the wall of the flash tube without a ver Reduction in permeability, infoige aging or the like. In the figure, a flash tube according to the invention is shown in perspective. The flash tube made of synthetic quartz glass is denoted by 10, which has a straight discharge channel 12 and at its ends at right angles to it extending electrode spaces 14,16, each have a volume of at least the same size as the discharge channel 12. In these electrode spaces electrodes 18, 20 are arranged. The flash tube 10 is in a conventional flash lamp circuit arranged and is ignited by an ignition electrode (not shown).
