Der Konstruktion des Apparates liegt die bekannte Tatsache zugrunde, daß der elektrische Widerstand des Selens durch die Bestrahlung mittels Röntgenstrahlen herabgesetzt wird. Der Apparat, der zur Benutzung in den Strahlengang gebracht wird, nimmt die Röntgenstrahlen durch ein Diaphragma T auf, worauf sie einen Keil K aus geeignetem Material passieren. Darauf treffen die Strahlen die Selenzelle S, welche mit einer Stromquelle E und. einer Spule A, die etwa in der Art der Drehspulinstrumente mit einem Magneten M zusammenwirkt, in Serie geschaltet ist. Mit dieser Einrichtung ist der Keil K durch B1 und Bn zwangläufig verbunden. Fallen jetzt Strahlen bestimmter Härte durch die Spitze des Keils K hindurch auf diese Selenzelle S, so wird deren Widerstand herabgesetzt, der Strom von E durchfließt den Anker A, und letzterer dreht sich gemeinsam mit dem Keil K, so daß immer stärkere Partien desselben von den Strahlen getroffen werden. Es tritt somit nach einer bestimmten Drehung der Fall ein, daß die Strahlen so stark im Keil absorbiert werden, daß sie nicht mehr in genügender Weise auf die Selenzelle einzuwirken vermögen. Infolgedessen stellt sich der Anker A und ein mit ihm verbundener Zeiger auf einen Punkt ein, dessen Lage auf einer Skala den Härtegrad der Strahlen anzugeben geeignet ist.The construction of the apparatus is based on the well-known fact that the electrical resistance of selenium is reduced by exposure to X-rays. So ist es beispielsweise nicht erforderlich, daß der Körper K eine keilförmige Gestalt besitzt; vielmehr kann er aus Materialien verschieden starker Durchlässigkeit zusammengesetzt sein oder in der Art der »Walterskala« Plättchen verschiedener Stärke enthalten. Ebenso können Selenzelle und Diaphragma drehbar und der Körper K fest angeordnet sein. Ferner läßt sich in der Nähe der Selenzelle ein bei Auftreffen der Strahlen aufleuchtender Leuchtschirm anordnen, so daß der Effekt der Widerstandsverminderung durch das vom Schirm ausgesandte Fluorescenzlicht verstärkt wird. Die Stromquelle E ist zweckmäßig eine auswechselbare Batterie.The embodiment shown in the figure can be modified in many ways.
