Bei Verbrennungsmaschinen mit hoher Verdichtung müssen die Kolbenlängen bei der Montierung bestimmt werden, wonach dann nachträglich der Kolbenkörper auf das erforderliche Maß abgedreht wird, um den genau vorgeschriebenen Kompressionsraum zu- erreichen. Mit Rücksicht auf die nicht immer genauen Aussparungen in den Verbrennungsräumen müssen bei ein und demselben Maschinenmodell die Kolben verschieden lang sein, um den richtigen Kompressionsraum und den richtigen Kompressions-Enddruck zu bekommen.
