Damit der Torf und die in dem Torf etwa enthaltenen Fasern, die man ja gerade haben will, gelockert aber nicht zerschnitten werden, sind die Messer stumpf und greifen zwischen die Zacken der Walzen TV und TV¹. Um in gewissen Grenzen gröbere oder feinere Torfstreu erzeugen zu können, ist die Walze JV¹ in verstellbaren Lagern gelagert, während die Walze TV in festen Lagern läuft.
