Description
iß ein feines Metallpulver, insbesondere Carbonyl- ;
einem Sintervorgang der Träger und das MetallpulverThe invention relates to a method for producing a porous metal layer on a dense copper active substance, in which a suspension of fine metal powder and a metallic solder in a liquid binder is applied to the carrier, dried in a non-oxidizing atmosphere and then heated at 600 to 1000 ° C .
It is known (German Auslegeschrift 1185 901) to produce ferrous sintered metal coatings in the manner that a fine metal powder, especially carbonyl; Sen powder and metallic solder as a suspension of distilled water, acetone, alcohol or the like applied to a metallic carrier and, after drying, heated to 600 to 1000 ° C in neutral or reducing atmospheres. It is also known (US Pat. No. 3,384,154) to mix a fine metal powder, in particular copper powder, with a plastic binder dissolved in a solvent to form a paste which is applied to a support made of copper and dried, whereupon the support is sintered and the metal powder
ίο bis auf den Erweichungspunkt, im Falle von Kupfer ' bis auf etwa 9600C, erhitzt werden.ίο up to the softening point, in the case of copper 'up to about 960 0 C, are heated.
Es kann nämlich zu einem die Festigkeit erheblich vermindernden Weichglühen kommen, selbst wenn für den Träger Kupferlegierungen benutzt werden, bei denen das Weichglühen erst bei imIn the known sintering processes, there is a risk that the carrier will be deformed, in particular when it comes to thin copper sheets or long copper tubes, such as those used for heat exchangers to be used. This is because it can lead to a soft annealing which significantly reduces the strength come even if copper alloys are used for the carrier can be used in which the soft annealing only occurs at im
The amount of time it takes to heat the carrier and the metal powder to the softening point, and the length of time during which the arrangement at this temperature
as gehalten werden muß, um für ein Sintern zu sorgen, sind unerwünscht lang.as must be held to ensure sintering, are undesirably long.
Es ist ferner bekannt (deutsche Auslegeschrift 1155 253), zur Herstellung eines als Gleit- oder Reibwerkstoff bestimmten Verbundwerkstoffes aus einer porösen Metallschicht, die mit Kunststoff ausgefüllt ist, ein Gemisch aus Kupferpulver und Zinndioxid zu einem Preßling zu formen und diesen in einem wasserstoffhaltigen Schutzgas auf eine Temperatur zu erhitzen, bei der das Zinndioxid zu MetallIt is also known (German Auslegeschrift 1155 253) to produce a sliding or Friction material specific composite material made of a porous metal layer, which is filled with plastic is to form a mixture of copper powder and tin dioxide into a compact and this in to heat a hydrogen-containing protective gas to a temperature at which the tin dioxide becomes metal
Das das Skelett bildende Pulver-is reduced and the tin thus formed soldered the copper particles to one another. The connection such a material with a carrier material can in the same operation as the soldering of the Skeleton. The powder that forms the skeleton
Mixture can also be sprinkled or placed on the carrier element with the addition of further solder, whereupon a heat treatment takes place above the solder melting temperature. A powder layer with a slightly lower melting point than the treatment temperature when soldering together can also be introduced between the carrier material and the material layer to be bonded. This process is difficult to master, especially when provision is made for pores of largely uniform size with a predetermined pore radius. It can easily happen that the tin dioxide is only incompletely reduced and undesired oxide inclusions remain in the porous skeleton. If, in order to avoid this, the duration and / or the temperature of the heat treatment are increased, there is a risk that the skeletal layer will be partially melted and pores will be closed.
The invention is based on the object of creating a method in which heating the carrier and the metal powder to a temperature well below the softening point is sufficient, at which there is no noticeable soft annealing and no deformation of the carrier caused thereby and which is also suitable for the formation of thin, porous copper layers on long copper pipes and thin copper sheets.

The binder ensures that the metal powder and solder adhere to the copper material at the coating temperature so that the carrier can be moved and placed in an oven as required. Suitable binders must be liquid at room temperature and inert with respect to the other components of the coating. Preferably they have moderately high volatility and low latent heat. A variety of plastics, particularly viscous hydrocarbon binders, can be used to suspend the metal powder and solder, for example an isobutylene polymer having a molecular weight of about 140,000. A petroleum-based solvent such as kerosene is conveniently mixed in. The preferred binder is a mixture of equal parts by weight of isobutylene polymer and kerosene. Other organic compounds such as toluene, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol or acetone can be used as solvents and / or diluents. The latter preferably boils in the moderately high range 150-290 0 C, in order to prevent evaporation before the binding effect is initiated. A stabilized petroleum distillate is particularly useful in this regard.
If desired, a binder comprising the metal powder and the solder can be used temporarily suspended and a slurry or slurry of preferably a color-like consistency forms. The amount of the binder carrier medium is chosen so that a slurry of desired viscosity is obtained. The latter is preferably about 3000 centipoise if porous layers with a thickness of approximately 200 to 300 μm are to be formed.Eine slurry is particularly suitable for application in areas that are difficult to access, for example on the inside of pipes.
Before the layer is applied, the carrier is preferably degreased, for example by using Carbon tetrachloride is washed. For the application itself, all methods are suitable for those without significant external pressure is worked, z. B. spraying, immersing the carrier in an or multiple media or pouring one or more of the components onto the copper material. Preferably the copper material is initially coated with a uniformly thick film of liquid binder coated, for example by dipping, brushing or spraying. On the binder Then a uniform mixture of metal powder and solder becomes substantially more uniform Thickness applied. This coating can be formed in several steps, whereby excess, non-adherent powder is shaken off after each application, followed by another layer of powder is sprayed or sprinkled on. This sequence of steps was found to be particularly beneficial for solid to ensure metallic bonds between the three main components.
This final metal powder coating has the purpose, the possibility excessive alloying or erosion of the metal powder of the base layer by the solder by adding extra metal powder, which is the furthest outside can preferentially attack lying solder. It can also be the solder first and then a mixture from metal powder and binder or first a mixture of metal powder and binder and then the solder can be applied
The heat supply required for drying and brazing can be indirect, for example by means of a hot gas surrounding the coated copper material, or directly, for example by placing the copper material as a heating element in an electrical circuit, with the voltage and current intensity being specified accordingly. In the case of indirectly heated ovens in which the coated carrier is at a standstill, drying is preferably carried out with a temperature increase of at most 335 degrees / h, in particular of at most 222 degrees / h. When the temperature rises sharply, the Kanakas binders easily evaporate so quickly that powder is lifted off and carried away in the steam that develops. This is undesirable as it can also change the relative amounts of metal powder and solder. Temperature increases of more than 330 degrees / h can be useful in ovens in which the coated carrier is heated directly and / or moved through the oven. The drying is carried out at temperatures of less than about 540 ° C, because suitable liquid binders are completely expelled at 540 0 C.
In this context, a non-oxidizing atmosphere should be understood to mean an atmosphere which does not contain so much oxygen that the copper material, metal powder or solder in the oxidize at elevated ambient temperature. If these components are not previously in a suitable solvent, for example phosphoric or chromic acid, cleaned and any oxide coatings were freed, is preferably with a reducing atmosphere, for example hydrogen, worked to provide such cleaning. Were the components immediately before the layer production deoxidized, the atmosphere may be inert, e.g. composed of nitrogen, though a reducing gas can also be used in this case.
Preferably, a small amount of brazing flux, such as a flux, is added to the coating based on borax. The brazing flux should not exceed about 5% of the total of Make out metal powder and solder. Such fluxes act as solvents for the copper oxide coating on the copper material. When using such a flux can as a result a reducing atmosphere can be dispensed with, even if the copper material is not with has been pre-cleaned with a solvent.
Für das anschließende Hartlöten wird der mit dem trockenen Überzug versehene Kupferwerkstoff vorzugsweise mit höherer Geschwindigkeit als beimThe copper material provided with the dry coating is preferred for the subsequent brazing at a higher speed than the
Drying to the maximum temperature of 730 to 845 ° C is further heated. The temperature increase should in this second stage do not take place so quickly that the desired maximum temperature for a noticeable Time span is exceeded. If this were the case, the copper material would be at least partially soft-annealed and there would be reduced tensile strength and high percentage elongation. Furthermore, staying too long at the maximum temperature has an excessive effect Brazing result, with parts of the alloy formed by the solder and the copper material in the Pores flow. On the other hand, in the case of mass production, in view of high manufacturing efficiency the temperature increase during the brazing process go on as quickly as possible. With indirect heated ovens, in which the workpiece is at a standstill, is preferably increased with a temperature increase of 555 to 1100 degrees / h worked.
The time-temperature relationship during the last part of the brazing process is in view of the Quality of the product of particular importance. For example, a relatively low Maximum temperature will be beneficial if the plated copper material is during this temperature is exposed to a comparatively long period of time. The surface oxidation state of the solder can also affect the duration and maximum temperature of the brazing process. If the solder has been exposed to an oxidizing atmosphere for a long time, it is comparatively longer and brazing at a higher temperature required to remove the oxide and to ensure the alloy bond. Generally should the heat supply be interrupted before the maximum temperature is reached in order to avoid that this is exceeded for a noticeable period of time.
The atmosphere used during the brazing process should also be non-oxidizing. If the solder has a noticeable oxide coating, the gas should be reducing, i. H. containing hydrogen, be to eliminate the oxide. Preferably, during drying and brazing with the same Working atmosphere.

53 bis 105 μπι).Follows from a comparison of the samples with 15 and 20/0 solder that the higher Lötmittelgehalt is preferable at least equivalent Siedewärmeübergangszahlen because of higher strength. The powder mixture with 20% solder and a particle diameter of 44 to 105 μm resulted in a much better operating behavior than the larger and the smaller particle diameter range (37 to 105 μm and 53 to 105 μm).
In this series of tests, a silver alloy with 56% Ag, 22% Cu, 17% Zn and 5% Sn was used as solder. A 381 mm long tube with an outer diameter of 19.5 mm and consisting of 99% Cu and 1% Fe was cleaned in acetone. Both ends were coated with a 50% isobutylene polymer and 50% kerosene binder. One end A was dusted with a mixture of 5% silver alloy and 95% copper powder with a particle diameter of approximately 30 to 149 μm until no further powder remained adhering. The other end B was dusted in the same way with a mixture of 10% silver alloy and 90% copper powder with a particle diameter of 30 to 149 μm. The tube was then placed in an oven in an atmosphere of hydrogen at a rate of about 222 ° C / h to about 482 0 C pre-heated to evaporate the binder. The tube was then further heated to 732-760 ° C at a rate of about 278 ° C / h in the same hydrogen atmosphere and held at that temperature for about 1 hour without excessive melting .
The coating on both ends appears uniform and porous. The 10% silver alloy coating was slightly stronger than the 5% silver alloy coating; however, both coatings could be scraped off by hand will. Microscopic examination confirmed that insufficient amount of solder was used to form a solid porous layer.
In a further experiment, a mixture of 20% silver alloy and 80% copper powder with a rake diameter of approximately 30 to 149 μm was dusted over the same binder coating on a copper disk. The coated disk was heated to 760 ° C. in the manner described above. The strength of the porous layer obtained corresponded to that of sintered layers. The porous layer was tested h in a Badsiedeeinheit under comparable e 5 turn of Fluorchlonnethan at an absolute pressure of 0,4kp / cm and a heat flow of '5.66 kcal / cm. 8 A heat transition number of approximately 2.25 kcal / cm 2 h 0 C was obtained, which is comparable to the values for a sintered porous copper layer operating under the same conditions. For the purposes of this experiment, the use of pure copper instead of a copper-iron alloy was of no importance.

E 112-63, Anhang 4.After removal from the oven, this was referred to as the maximum deflection below perpendicular deformation of the middle section measured with respect to the supported end sections. It represents a criterion for the heat treatment during the formation of the porous Deformation attributable to the copper layer. Grain size measurements were also made for the tube metal carried out to determine the influence of the heat treatment on the strength of the pipes. The pipes were cut lengthways along the pipe center line; the measurements were made at right angles to the cuts according to the method according to ASTM No. E 112-63, Appendix 4.

From these data it can be seen that the brazing process allows a much lower bond temperature and results in a product that deforms less than half as much as a sintered product. The data also show that the brazing process results in only a slight increase in the grain size of the tube during the sintering process has a more than 20-fold increase in particle size resulted. From the known relationship between grain size and strength it follows that the pipe coated with a porous copper layer in the brazing process has practically the same strength as the non-heat-treated pipe, which is in stark contrast to the pipe on which a porous copper layer is sintered.
Another important advantage of the brazing process described is the much higher production speed, e.g. B. the feed speed of the tube coated with Kopfer phosphor powder of 102 mm / min compared to the feed speed of the tube coated with pure copper powder in the sintering process of 25.4 mm / min.

Sodann wurde ein Gemisch aus Stablpulver mit 1,9% Ni, 0,6% Mn, 0,3% Mo, 0,04% C, 0,3% Si, Rest Eisen sowie aus einer Kupfer-Phosphor-Legierung mit 92% Cu und 8% P in einem Gewichtsverhältnis von 75/25 aufgebracht.A disc made of deoxidized, phosphorus-rich copper and a tube made of a copper-iron alloy with 0.8 to 1.2% Fe; 0.01 to 0.04% P and in addition to Cu a maximum of 0.1% other components were with coated with a liquid binder of the type described in Example I. Die Pulver hatten einen Teilchendurchmesserzwischen 44 und 149 μιη. After drying in the oven at 538 ° C, the samples were brazed at 788 to 816 ° C. The bond strength of the porous coating on the copper washer and the pipe was good. Boiling tests that were carried out with CCl 3 F at a pressure of 1 at using the coated copper disk gave a boiling side heat transfer coefficient of 2.49 kcal / cm 2 h 0 C with a heat flow of 5.43 kcal / cm 2 h a heat transfer coefficient of less than about 0.49 kcal / cm 2 h "C for a smooth surface.
