Description
I, side tube with a helical one held by dielectric rods Delay Line "The present invention relates to a time-of-flight tube, in particular Traveling wave tube, with one between an electron gun and one Electron beam collector arranged interaction section with a helical delay line (helix) adjacent to dielectric holding rods.
Such runtime tubes are well known and provide the most common structure of helical tubes.
Helical tubes have a number of advantages, which result from the practical result in complete freedom from dispersion of a helix of the delay line. On the on the other side, spiral amplifier tubes vibrate with a ka value above 0.15 with high currents and high amplification factors on the reverse wave in the proximity of the .s point. Measures must therefore be taken to ensure a to prevent such backward wave fanning.
The present invention has set itself the task of the danger a so-called (-point oscillation in running side tubes with a helical delay line switch off without introducing a restricted area. To solve this problem is in accordance with a transit time tube of the type mentioned above the present Invention proposed that at least in one area along the helix the capacitive Loading of the helix by at least one of the holding rods compared to the normal value is changed. A particularly favorable solution results from a combination this principle according to the invention with a known one for suppressing x-point vibrations serving arrangement in which the helix in individual sections with different Slope is subdivided, in a further development of the invention per section at least an area with a changed capacitive load is provided. The areas with changed capacitive load should advantageously be in the middle of a Be arranged helical portion.
Particularly favorable implementation options result from this, that the capacitive load in the mentioned areas compared to the normal value is reduced, which is advantageously done thereby; that to form the areas Reduced capacitive loading in the cold rods are provided.
To a reflection of the electromagnetic guided along the helix To avoid waves at joints, it is provided that the recesses the probes are tapered and run into the normal diameter of the holding rods. It can either by grinding a tapered profile on one side into the dielectric, preferably ceramic, holding rods done, or in that to form the The retaining rods in this area have essentially the shape of a paraboloid of revolution or hyperboloids Instead of grinding in a tapered one Longitudinal slot in the holding rods can provide a nearly reflection-free capacitive load can also be realized in individual areas of the holding rods that for Formation of the tapered recesses a number of deepening towards the center Cross slots are introduced into the holding rods.
Finally, there is an area with reduced dielectric Load in an embodiment of the invention also achieve that in the holding rods Sections made of a material with a lower dielectric constant are used are. This latter embodiment can also be reversed in a particularly simple manner Develop the direction for the construction of a transit time tube in which in individual areas the capacitive loading of the helix by the holding rods compared to the normal value is enlarged by putting in the holding rods sections made of a material with larger Dielectric constant are used.
Based on the schematically shown in the figures of the drawing In the following, the invention is to be described in more detail with further features explained. For the sake of clarity, the figures only show the helical delay line with a holding rod designed according to the invention shown.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment in which in at least one of the ceramic rods 2 framing and holding the helix 1 has a tapered profile 3 is ground in. The helix 1 then no longer lies on the ceramic rod in the interference zone 3 which, in addition to the technological simplicity, has the additional advantage that a zone is formed in which there are mechanical stresses balance can. The mode of action of such a capacitive relief of the coil lies in that the backward wave is influenced much more strongly than the one to be amplified Wave whose field lines reach out further into space, so that the recess for them practically plays no role in the ceramic rod 2.
Die Figur 2 zeigt eine Ausführungsformç bei der anstelle eines getaperten Längsschlitzes eine Vielzahl von zur Mitte hin tiefer werdenden Querschlitzen 4 in den Haltestab eingebracht sind derart, daß die Wendel jeweils an den zwischen den Schlitzen 4 stehenbleibenden Zähnen 5 anliegt.FIG. 2 shows an embodiment in which instead of a tapered one Longitudinal slot a multiplicity of transverse slots 4 which become deeper towards the center are introduced into the holding rod in such a way that the helix is attached to the between the slots 4 remaining teeth 5 rests.
In Figure 3, an embodiment is shown in which the preferably Ceramic rod made of BeO is interrupted at points A and there by a Quartz rod is replaced, which has the same diameter as the BeO rod (; 2 <£ a).
So that the dispersion curves coincide at the connection points and the wave is not reflected, the BeOlStab must be inserted into the quartz rod 7 adjacent sections A, A 'are ground conically or ground there, so that the dispersion curves at points A coincide.
Instead of the embodiment of Figure 3, in which the used Quartz rod 5 has a lower dielectric constant than the rest of the holding rod 2, an embodiment according to Figure 4 can also be used, in which that Insert 6 consists of a material whose dielectric constant is greater is than that of the rest of the holding rod (al). The helix is in such an embodiment in this area not capacitively relieved, but additionally capacitively loaded. To avoid reflection at the connection points of the insert the ends of the insert tab are tapered at both ends.
When building the helix from individual sections with different Incline, with an area with a changed capacitive load provided for each section is, each of these areas can be designed according to Figures 1 to 4.
