Labia spreader for intermittent self-catheterization in women.

In order to properly and cleanly insert a bladder catheter, patients with limited hand function or older patients in particular need both hands to insert the bladder catheter. In order to insert a bladder catheter into the urethra without contamination, the labia must be spread. Up to now, two fingers of one hand have been used for this, so that only one hand is free to handle the catheter.

This leads to unwanted contamination of the catheter tip with the risk of introducing germs into the urethra and bladder, resulting in a bladder infection.

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the object of facilitating intermittent self-catheterization for women with the aid of a labia spreader and, above all, of reducing the risk of contamination of the catheter and the risk of infection of the urinary bladder.

The object is achieved according to the invention with the features listed in claim 1 in that the labia are spread with the aid of a labia spreader of the type described before catheterization and fixed in this position in order to have both hands free for safe and clean handling of the catheterization process.

The labia spreader shown has the basic shape of a pair of scissors or forceps, which has two legs 6 made of e.g. plastic.

Figure 1 shows the two legs 6, which are firmly but rotatably connected to each other at a pivot point 7.

At one end, the legs 6 have the handles 8, which in the example shown are cylindrical and point towards the user according to Figure 4.

On the other side of the pivot point 7, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, on the side facing away from the handle, two spreading jaws 9 are attached, which have an ergonomic bend.

On the outer sides of the lower longitudinal sides of the spreading jaws 9 there are two anti-slip coatings 12 as shown in Figures 3 and 4.

A torsion spring 10 according to Figure 3 is fixed at the pivot point 7, the spring legs 11 of which act on the spreading jaws 9.

Figure 1 shows the labia spreader with the torsion spring relaxed, Figure 2 with the torsion spring tensioned.

Labia spreader for intermittent self-catheterization in women, whereby - two legs 6 are fixed but rotatably mounted in a pivot point 7 - two spreading jaws 9 are attached to the guide part 6 - two anti-slip pads 12 are attached to the outside of the spreading jaws 9 - two handles 8 are attached to the opposite end of the legs 6 , which point in the opposite direction of the spreading jaws 9 - a torsion spring 10 is fixed in the pivot point 7 , the spring legs 11 of which act on the spreading jaws 9 and which is open in the relaxed state - in the open spring state, the two spreading jaws 9 fix the labia spread by the spring pressure and the labia spreader locks itself and remains in this position without having to be held 2.
