Abstract

Description

The invention relates to a racquet for ball games, in particular tennis racquets, with flexible weight adjustment.

BACKGROUND

In ball games such as squash, table tennis, badminton or tennis, the primary aim is to use a suitable racket to optimally hit a ball that is at rest or in motion with the hitting surface in order to initiate a controlled change of direction of the ball as specified by the user.

In all types of ball games, the racquet primarily includes a grip element and a head element, with the head element forming a hitting surface by covering, mostly by stringing the racquet. The head and grip are the most stressed parts of a racquet as this is where mechanical and dynamic forces act on the racquet's construction. An optimal shot is/can be triggered by the user through various parameters. Examples of parameters that can be mentioned are the size, shape, balance, weight, weight distribution and material of the racket. Furthermore, the swing weight, the recoil weight and the torsional weight of the racquet are important characteristics that affect/can affect the maneuverability of the racquet, among other things. Swing weight is the weight ratio of the head and grip elements. By recoil weight is meant the weight that results from the recoil that occurs as a counter reaction when a mass is accelerated. The direction of rebound is opposite to the direction of acceleration of the racquet when playing the ball. Torsion weight is a similar parameter to swing weight. The difference between swing weight and torsion weight is that the torsion weight has no offset like the swing weight and thus the torsion weight equals the moment of inertia about the x-axis of the racquet. Maneuverability is the ability to move quickly and nimbly of any kind, preferably at the stroke. Influencing the parameters just mentioned is essential for novices and especially for performance-oriented athletes, who can be found in the professional or amateur field.

The impact behavior of the racket can be influenced in a variety of ways, whereby a spin/topspin of the ball in the game is aimed for. Spin is the rotation of the ball around its own axis. In other words, spin is the intrinsic angular momentum of particles, preferably objects, more preferably the cue ball. With the so-called topspin, an arcuate trajectory of the ball in the opposing side of the field is ideally aimed for, whereby the ball bounces up relatively high in the opposing field in order to make it much more difficult for the opposing player to return. This forward and return technique is widely used in tennis, along with other striking techniques, depending on the tactical use. Accordingly, influencing the maneuverability of the racquet is given an important role.

In the pamphlet EP 2 777 776 B1 For example, a tennis racquet with improved playing characteristics is disclosed, the tennis racquet including a frame having a head, a throat and a grip. Higher density parts are provided at the head and butt end to improve the maneuverability of the tennis racket.

Furthermore, the reference discloses EP 2 195 100 B1 a handle for sports equipment, in particular for a tennis racket, the handle having a force measuring device attached to it, which is suitable for measuring a force acting on the handle, which is applied by a player's hand enclosing the handle. Furthermore, the handle has an electronic evaluation unit that is electrically connected to the force-measuring device. The force measuring device has at least one flat force sensor, which is attached to the grip in such a way that the force transmitted by the player's hand can be measured by the force sensor.

Furthermore, the reference discloses EP 1 857 151 A1 a racquet for ball games, characterized by the equipment with at least one movably guided weight, which shifts in the direction of the racquet head during the impact and returns to its starting position after the end of the impact under the action of gravity or springs.

A disadvantage of the cited prior art is the comparatively complex structure and the laborious assembly and disassembly of the components of the racket. This makes maintenance of the racket time-consuming and expensive. Furthermore, the racquet is exposed to high dynamic loads that increase the complexity of the racquet design many times over.

One object of the present invention is a structural simplification of a racket for ball games, which is intended to increase user-friendliness,
The focus is on increasing efficiency through optimized transfer of potential energy into kinetic energy from the bat to the ball.

A further object of the present invention is ideally to ballast racquets, in particular tennis racquets, in order to significantly influence or even improve the maneuverability of the racquet.

This object/s is/are solved by the racket having the features of the independent claim.

Advantageous or preferred embodiments are the subject of a dependent claim and the drawing(s).

In a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a racquet for a ball game sport having a head member and a grip member
comprises, wherein the said head and handle element are operatively connected to one another in such a way that they form or can form a positive and/or non-positive fit extending along a longitudinal axis, and wherein the head element further comprises at least one striking surface, characterized in that the grip element comprises at least one recess which is accessible from the outside and in which at least one weight element can be inserted and removed again. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the structural components of the racket can be configured in a user-specific and functional manner, with the assembly/disassembly of the individual components being made much easier. This also achieves the technical advantage that the user-friendliness is significantly increased, which comes into play due to the modular design of the grip element according to the building block principle and is thereby further reinforced.

According to an exemplary embodiment, according to the invention, there is provided a racquet wherein said recess is configured to allow free positioning of the weight member. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that an individual weight-dependent and damping-influencing ballast can be adjusted depending on the hitting behavior of the user, which significantly increases the maneuverability of the racket. Ideally, the maneuverability of the racquet is increased by reducing the force exerted by the user on the racquet.

According to a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a racket is made available, the grip element having a plurality of recesses into which a plurality of weight elements can be inserted and removed again. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the weight elements contain different or the same media, allowing flexible tuning of the racket in terms of weight and damping during the game. As a result, the user's individual stroke behavior can be controlled by exerting less force.

In a further embodiment according to the invention, a racket is made available, wherein a diameter of the recess always has a smaller value than each diameter of the handle element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the insertion and removal of one or more weight elements is made significantly easier, with the user-friendliness being increased even further. Furthermore, the technical advantage is achieved that the weight element is protected from external influences such as weather and mechanical and dynamic loads, with the longevity of the weight element being extended.

In a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a racket is made available, the weight element being a receiving element which can be closed at the end with at least one closure element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that different or the same media can be accommodated in the receiving element. Furthermore, by closing the closure element, the technical advantage is achieved that the receiving element is protected from the weather in order to avoid contamination of the receiving element, for example by moisture, heat or condensate or the like. A prefabricated seal is thus provided. This also significantly increases the durability of the racket according to the invention. Consequently, the service and repair times of the racket according to the invention are shortened.

In a further advantageous embodiment of the present invention, a racket is made available, wherein the receiving element can be closed with a closure element at least on one side. A stopper, in particular a screw cap, is provided as the closure element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the receiving element and the closure element are in an operative relationship with one another. This advantageously further increases the sealing behavior of the racket according to the invention.

According to a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a racket is made available, wherein the receiving element is tapered at the end at least on one side and can be closed with a closure element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the receiving element and the closure element are in an increased operative relationship with one another. As a result, the sealing behavior of the racket according to the invention is advantageously increased even further.

In a further advantageous exemplary embodiment, a racket is made available according to the invention, the receiving element being tapered on both sides and being closable with one or more closure elements. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the receiving element can be filled with the medium at each end, depending on the manner in which the receiving element is removed, for example during play. This advantageously increases the user-friendliness even further.

According to a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a racket is provided, wherein the receiving element is a container, preferably a cartridge, more preferably a reservoir, and can be optionally filled with a medium in such a way that it acts as a ballasting and/or damping-influencing weight. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the same or different media can be introduced into the receiving element depending on the type and nature of the container, with the flexible tuning of the racket according to the invention being adapted to the requirements of the user and thus ideally increased. This increases the functionality of the racket according to the invention with the same advantage.

In a further embodiment of the invention, a racket is provided, wherein the medium is a substance selected from the group consisting of a liquid, gaseous, solid, powdery or gel-like substance or a mixture thereof. It goes without saying that, in principle, any state of aggregation can be introduced into the receiving element. In this way, for example, the technical advantage is achieved that, depending on the user profile, an individual tuning of the racket according to the invention is made possible by ballasting the grip element.

In a further exemplary embodiment, a racket is made available according to the invention, the ball game sport being selected from a group consisting of squash, hockey, golf, table tennis, tennis, badminton, preferably tennis. This achieves the technical advantage that the racket according to the invention is/can be used in similar types of ball games. It goes without saying that this includes all types of ball games that use a racket as a device for playing.

According to another embodiment of the present invention, a racquet is provided, wherein the grip element comprises a water-repellent and/or weather-resistant material. Water-repellent materials are primarily to be understood as meaning those materials which have hydrophobic properties. Above all, hydrophobic polymers selected from the group consisting of acrylic, epoxy, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, polydimethylsiloxane, polyester and polyurethanes should be mentioned by way of example and not meant to be restrictive or limiting. Weather-resistant materials are primarily to be understood as meaning materials that protect, for example, from moisture, cold, heat, UV light or other physical and/or chemical processes and/or mixed forms thereof. Above all, substances selected from the group consisting of chloroprene rubber (neoprene), diprolane, ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM), nitrile rubber (NBR), natural rubber (NR) , butadiene rubber (BR), silicone, polyethylene butylene block styrene. In other words, weather resistance means that the material of the handle element is protected from environmental influences such as corrosion. This achieves the technical advantage that the durability of the racket according to the invention, in particular of the grip element, is extended. This is before advantageously the material requirements are lower, consequently the service and repair times are shortened.

In a further exemplary embodiment according to the invention, a racquet is made available, the grip element of the racquet being designed ergonomically. Ergonomic means a user-friendly and/or body-friendly characteristic. This achieves the technical advantage that the palm(s) of the user enclose the grip element of the racket according to the invention securely and with more grip. This increases user safety, for example when there is contact between the ball and bat, and minimizes the risk of injury, for example if the palm of the hand accidentally slips off the grip element.

In a further advantageous embodiment, a racket is made available according to the invention, which optionally provides a support element between the recess(es) and the receiving element(s), the receiving element being essentially or at least partially surrounded by the supporting element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the receiving element in the recess is protected against imbalance and noise during play, as a result of which the durability of the grip element is increased.

According to a further advantageous embodiment of the present invention, a racket is made available, wherein the support element is a foam, preferably a closed-cell or open-cell foam, more preferably a water-repellent and/or hydrophobic foam. Open-cell means that a substance largely consists of open cells, which results in openness to diffusion.

Due to their porous structure, open-cell materials such as polyurethane-based foams are relatively light and therefore permeable to air. After the open-cell substance has been used, there is an increase in volume so that all imaginable spaces in recesses, for example, are enclosed by it. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the gripping element, the weight element and the recess are subject to low loads, and increased insulation is made possible. This technical advantage is further enhanced by the open cell foam due to its low affinity to absorb water. It is understood that other open celled fabrics can be used on a similar basis. Closed-cell, on the other hand, means that a substance largely consists of closed cells, which results in less permeability to diffusion and less air permeability. Closed-cell materials such as polyurethane-based foams are significantly heavier in weight and are sometimes characterized by their high stiffness and compressive strength. Furthermore, closed-cell foams have high water absorption coefficients. This achieves the technical advantage that an above-average strength of the foam leads to a longer service life of the grip element of the racket according to the invention. It is understood that similar closed cell materials can be used.

In a further advantageous embodiment according to the invention, a racket is made available, the closure element being designed as an end cap, preferably as a one-piece end cap. The closure element is preferably designed as a stopper, more preferably as a twist lock. This offers, for example, the technical advantage of using prefabricated end caps as closure elements,
in order to minimize the material requirements. This also reduces costs, saves resources and simplifies assembly/disassembly with the same advantage. It is understood that end caps that serve the purpose of closure and insulation as a functional element are contemplated.

According to a further advantageous embodiment of the present invention, a racket is made available, wherein the grip element and/or the receiving element and/or the closure element and/or optionally the support element has a corrosion-resistant coating in whole or at least in part. Corrosion-resistant coatings are meant by way of example and are not meant to be restrictive or limiting, above all substances selected from the group consisting of polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride and fluoropolymers. For example, polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) in all configurations (HDPE, LDPE) are particularly preferred. Such polyolefins are distinguished by their low weight, resistance to solvents and their chemical stability. Polyvinyl chlorides (PVC) share similar chemical properties to polyolefins, but are heavier and structurally much more rigid. Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) offers higher temperature resistance than PVC. In addition, PVC and CPVC can be bonded chemically and thermally. Fluoropolymers such as PTFE, FEP, PFA, PVDF, PCTFE, ECTFE and ETFE and/or the like offer excellent chemical heat resistance, but are typically softer than the aforementioned materials. Because of their higher operating temperatures, these materials are preferred for demanding applications, particularly in critical ones environments used. This has the technical advantage that all technical components of the racket are protected against mechanical and/or thermal loads and the risk of a loss of functionality of the respective technical components is/can be avoided or at least mitigated. This extends the durability of the racket according to the invention and thus minimizes the maintenance effort.

According to a further advantageous embodiment, a racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, is made available according to the invention, wherein the handle element has a grip thickness of ≧100 mm. The grip strength is the circumference of the grip element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that greater flexibility with regard to the type and nature of the introduction of the weight element is ensured.

According to a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, is advantageously made available, wherein a grip thickness of the grip element is selected from a range of 105 mm to 124 mm, preferably 108 mm to 121 mm, particularly preferably 111 mm to 118 mm.

This offers the technical advantage of selecting the grip element of the racket according to the invention to match the size of the hand/palm of the user. It goes without saying that the grip strengths just defined for the racket according to the invention for similar types of ball games can cover a different range. Depending on the type and nature of the grip element, a different load capacity of the racket according to the invention can be assumed during play.

In a further advantageous embodiment, a racket is made available according to the invention, wherein an adhesive, preferably an adhesive cream, more preferably an adhesive, is provided between the grip element and/or the weight element and/or the optional support element. This achieves the technical advantage, for example, that the individual technical components of the racket according to the invention interact in such a way that stability, robustness and sealability are achieved by increasing the longevity of the racket. This ensures, for example, quality assurance of the racket according to the invention.

In a second aspect of the present invention, a piece of sports equipment for a ball game is provided, the ball game being selected from a group consisting of squash, hockey, golf, table tennis, tennis, badminton, preferably tennis. It goes without saying that all possible ball game sports that use a racket as a device for playing are/can be covered by this.

Preferred embodiments of the present invention are described below with the aid of the drawings—these are not to be understood as limiting.

1. 1. Schläger für eine Ballspielsportart, umfassend:
   • - ein Kopfelement, und
   • - ein Griffelement,
   wobei das besagte Kopf- und Griffelement derart in Wirkverbindung zueinanderstehen, um eine entlang einer Längsachse sich erstreckende form- und/oder kraftschlüssige Einheit zu bilden oder bilden zu können, und wobei das Kopfelement ferner mindestens eine Schlagfläche umfasst, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Griffelement mindestens eine von außen zugängliche Ausnehmung umfasst, in der mindestens ein Gewichtselement einsetz- und wieder herauslösbar ist.
2. 2. Schläger nach Ausführungsform 1, wobei die besagte Ausnehmung derart gestaltet ist, dass sie ein freies Positionieren des Gewichtselements erlaubt.

10. 10. Schläger nach einer der vorhergehenden Ausführungsformen 1 bis 9, wobei die Ballspielsportart ausgewählt ist aus einer Gruppe bestehend aus Squash, Hockey, Golf, Tischtennis, Tennis, Badminton, bevorzugt Tennis.
11. 11. Schläger nach einer der vorhergehenden Ausführungsformen 1 bis 10, wobei das Griffelement ein wasserabweisendes und/oder witterungsbeständiges Material umfasst.
12. 12. Schläger nach einer der vorhergehenden Ausführungsformen 1 bis 11, wobei das Griffelement des Schlägers ergonomisch ausgestaltet ist.
