Description
The utility model relates to the field of imaging optoelectronic detection of thermal radiation with a flat infrared camera (IR camera). This specifically concerns an arrangement for the segmenting recording of thermographic images (IR images) to increase the image resolution while simultaneously capturing large image angles.
Various systems are known for segmenting image recording with a photographic camera (RGB camera), which either use a commercially available RGB camera as a nodal point adapter / panorama head or have a permanently integrated RG-B camera as a holistic device solution. The state of the art of these solutions is comprehensively described in
The photographic device solution according to
The lessons from
For the further processing and evaluation of IR images, congruent RGB images are often required, i.e. parallax-free in themselves and with respect to the thermographic image. For the implementation, a second panorama head with a photographic camera is used in the same position before or after the IR image acquisition.
The known designs for segmenting thermographic image acquisition have the following shortcomings:
- 1. Due to its universal character, a nodal point adapter equipped with an IR camera does not in itself represent a geometrically reproducible overall system. On the one hand, the positions of the drive axes can be moved at any time and, on the other hand, there is the universal quick-change camera bracket, which is only a screw connection to the IR -Camera has, especially in its angular position but also in its position indefinitely. A change in the focus setting of the IR lens must also be assumed at all times, since this is not fixed. The factors mentioned mean that the geometric calibration is invalid after a few shots, but at the latest after the IR camera has been disconnected and reattached.
- 2. Several electrical cable connections are required to operate the IR camera. The power supply and trigger pulse are provided by the nodal point adapter, the parameterization of the IR camera and the reading of the IR images from the IR camera take place with an external tablet PC. The electrical cable connections mentioned all run between the parts of the device moving towards each other and are therefore prone to errors and disruptive when the device is used.
- 3. Although attempts are made to record the IR and RGB images in the same main image point so that they are parallax-free to one another, their alignment is not congruent. The method is therefore subject to systematic errors both in the recording and in the evaluation and is also very complex to handle.
- 4. In large image areas (large image angle), basically more objects with different heat radiation are recorded than is the case with small image angles (scene dynamics). In order to avoid over- or understeering of the IR camera for the entire scene, it is operated with the largest possible radiometric working area. Since the radiometric resolution of the IR camera is limited (camera dynamics), the delicacy of the discretization (radiometric resolution) decreases.
- 5. The available IR cameras have a comparatively high signal noise, which is often larger than the radiometric camera resolution. This further reduces the discretization of the IR images that can actually be used.
- 6. Available IR cameras with their IR lenses often show a clear drop in amplitude / image brightness (vignetting), so that a combination of multiple images results in a disruptive mosaic effect.
From the disadvantages of known solutions mentioned, the task is derived to invent a panorama thermal camera that takes segmented IR images as a geometrically determined system. The IR camera should be in a fixed position and with a fixed or adjustable focus setting of the IR lens with a pan Tilt system and generate parallax-free images. The entire system should be permanently calibrated geometrically so that the individual images can be automatically combined to form a thermo panorama exactly following the polar coordinate system. The panorama thermal camera should do without annoying cable connections between moving components, as well as control, parameterization and measurement data acquisition without external devices. An energy / power supply for all electronic components that is independent of external energy sources must ensure sufficient operating time. A user interface that is as simple as possible is to be provided, which, with the aid of a few parameters, ensures intuitive and uncomplicated use of the device and permits success monitoring.
In addition to the IR images, the panorama thermal camera should also take RGB images, with all images being parallax-free to one another and a fixed and known positional relationship (orientation) between the thermal and RGB panorama.
The panorama thermal camera should also have a similarly good radiometric resolution for large image areas with greater dynamics, for which purpose an improved signal-to-noise ratio should be achieved. The generated thermal panorama should not have an annoying mosaic effect.

The recording system according to the invention also has an integrated rechargeable energy store (accumulator) for the power supply. A flat infrared source is used as the brand for the geometric calibration recordings, which behaves radiometrically as time-stable as possible and is advantageously calibrated or calibrated radiometrically, thus representing an absolutely defined radiation source. In this way, the support points of the geometric calibration are also available as radiometric measured values. With the help of these radiometric support points, a correction matrix or a correction function can be created which allows the same inhomogeneities, such as the vignetting of the IR optics, to be compensated for each individual image of the IR camera. This solves the problem of the mosaic effect.
