Description
The invention relates to a radiation meter for testing protective housings, in particular those of ultrashort pulse laser machines for their shielding effect for the three types of radiation: laser radiation, incoherent optical radiation and ionizing radiation. All three types of radiation can be measured with a basic configuration of the radiation measuring device and interchangeable modules.
The radiation meter according to the invention is particularly suitable as a hand-held measuring means with the avoidance of errors resulting from the unintentional change of the measuring distance. The radiation measuring device according to the invention prevents laterally entering radiation which does not pass through the measuring opening. The radiation measuring device according to the invention protects the operator against excess-border radiation which enters the measuring device through the measuring opening.
A cover according to the invention of the radiation measuring device contains reference radiators for checking the function and calibration of the radiation measuring device.
State laws and regulations for the protection of persons stipulate that the exposure of the radiation must be determined at a distance of 100 mm, but no closer and no further from the accessible surface of the protective housing. The measuring devices and the procedure are not named and are left to the experts. Maintaining the required measuring distance is difficult especially for hand-held devices. With the measuring device, the entire protective enclosure must be manually lowered at a constant distance between the detector and the wall to be tested of 100 mm. Accidental changes in the measuring distance, as is often the case with hand-held measuring instruments, cause large measuring errors. This leads either to the underestimation or overestimation of a fundamentally dangerous situation.
Even shorter or more constant measuring distances can be realized with the device according to the invention.
With the invention, the measurement process and the acquisition of reliable results in determining the optical irradiance and small dose rates to be improved.
The different types of radiation require different and therefore interchangeable detectors. The receiving surfaces of the detectors have a constant distance to the front surface of the radiation meter, preferably a distance of 100 mm. The front surface of the radiation measuring device has a surface contact with the protective wall to be examined during measurement. A sliding ring on the front of the radiation meter prevents scratches on the surface of the wall to be tested and seals the transition to the surface, so that the penetration of lateral radiation is reduced in the radiation meter.
Interchangeable diaphragms or tubes allow the measuring opening to be adapted to the measuring task. In the ground there is at least one detector for detecting the incident radiation.
The radiometer is closed with a removable lid when not in use. This cover contains reference emitters with which the functions of the detectors located in the radiation measuring device can be checked when switched on.

In
In the patent
None of the previously known measuring devices is able to measure the three types of radiation laser radiation, incoherent optical radiation and low-energy laser-induced ionizing radiation with a test set at the same time under the same conditions and to ensure the protection of the operator from radiation. New requirements for the construction of radiation measuring instruments result from the development of increasingly powerful laser machines. High-power lasers with ultrashort laser pulses unintentionally emit hazardous interference radiation. This interference occurs when the focused laser beam strikes the material to be processed. Part of the irradiated laser power is emitted into the room and must be shielded. Another part of the laser radiation interacts with the workpiece. This creates a plasma and bright glowing material parts. The glowing material parts emit long-wave optical radiation. The blue glowing plasma initially emits only incoherent short-wave optical radiation in the UV range and in the light range. With increasing energy of the laser pulse, the plasma is heated. As a result, harmful ionizing photon radiation is emitted which has the properties of X-radiation. The photons of this laser-induced ionizing radiation are lower in energy than in isotopes or medical or technical X-ray devices but in some cases have a high dose rate. The laser-induced ionizing radiation can be a danger to humans and all living cells. The legal limits for the radiation exposure of all three types of radiation must be observed outside the protective housing.
For the determination and evaluation of radiation exposure, new, internationally valid limit values and measurement conditions were defined.
The limits to be observed for optical radiation were defined in the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 April 2006, entitled 2006/25 / EC. This guideline was implemented in 2010 into the Ordinance on the Protection of Employees from Dangers due to Artificial Optical Radiation (OSTRV) and in DIN EN 62471
When assessing ionizing radiation, other measurement conditions apply. With regard to the limit values for irradiation of the skin and the body by ionizing radiation, the Act on Protection against Detrimental Effects of Ionizing Radiation (Radiation Protection Law - StrlSchG) stipulated with effect from 27.6.2017 that the equivalent dose of the organ to the skin over an area of 1 cm 2 must be averaged. The minimum measuring distance from a touchable surface is set to 100 mm, as in the case of optical radiation. Conditions for the limit reception angle when measuring the ionizing radiation have not been specified. It is not possible to maintain a constant distance of 100 mm with a hand-held radiation measuring device without measuring aids. If the detector of the radiation measuring device were located at a distance of only 90 mm in front of the touchable area, a much too high measured value would be displayed with small radiation sources. In contrast, the reading drops to 69% if the detector is located 120 mm apart. This would underestimate the exposure to radiation and could not detect dangers in time.
For the evaluation of the total radiation exposure of the 3 types of radiation, ranging from the range of infrared radiation to low-energy X-radiation, a radiation measuring device can be used according to the invention, with which the measuring distance of, for example, 100 mm is maintained.
The object of the invention is to provide a device for the simultaneous measurement of 3 types of radiation while maintaining a constant measuring distance and adjustable Grenzempfangswinkeln. Another task is to check the functionality of the radiation meter with Kalibrierstrahlern.
The object of the invention is achieved with a device having the features of the claims. The subclaims relate to advantageous developments and variants of the invention.
With the device according to the invention for testing the protective effect of housings, containers, rooms or walls which contain radiation sources inside, the measuring distance to the exposure surface is kept constant during the touching shutdown of the protective housing with a handheld device, without allowing an increase of distance-related measurement errors.
The radiation measuring device according to the invention comprises a base in which at least one replaceable detector is mounted. The side walls of the radiation meter absorb both optical and ionizing radiation. Not entering through the measuring aperture radiation is blocked. The Inner walls of the measuring chamber are designed so that fluorescence is largely avoided. For optical measurements, the required limit reception angle is set with disc-shaped diaphragms or a plug-on tube. The optical radiation to be measured covers the wavelength range from 100 nm to 20 μm. The wavelength range of the ionizing radiation ranges from 10 pm to 1 nm, which corresponds to a photon energy of 124 keV to 1.24 keV.
