Herkömmliche Stufentrays haben allerdings eine unflexible Stufe, die bereits mit Aufrichten des Trays ausgebildet wird und so während des Transports entsprechend mehr Trayhöhe fordert, die andernfalls eingespart werden könnte um Material-, aber vor allem Versand- und Lagervolumen zu minimieren.
