Description :

The invention relates to a device for sending and receiving SMS, which stands for Short Message Service, the retrieval and sending of messages regularly with up to 160 alphanumeric characters, in particular mobile phones.

Without exception, all providers of mobile phone services offer the option of receiving and sending SMS messages if, as is usual, the mobile phone is set up for this purpose. The technology is largely mature and mobile phones often have electronic memories in which frequently recurring words, symbols, phrases or the like can be stored by a processor and then called up again with just the press of a button.

Communication via SMS is common and widely established, particularly among young people, but also among children. However, spelling skills are often extremely poor, particularly among these target groups.

In order to enable children and young people in particular to create SMS messages that are as error-free as possible, a device for sending and receiving SMS messages, which has an input device and a memory for storing an entered SMS message, is based according to claim 1 on the fact that a program can be called up which checks the input for errors.

In particular, the idea here is that, in the manner of the well-known correction programs for computer-aided word processing, the spelling is checked by the program and, if necessary, corrected and/or suggestions for correction are made.

The Short Message Service has developed a large number of independent abbreviations that can often already be found in short communication, for example "mfg" equals "Kind regards". It is therefore suggested that such typical SMS abbreviations are already included in the program or can be entered individually in advance and/or during input.

0 The program can be activated using a separate circuit, whereby activation from the menu control of a mobile phone is possible. Alternatively, activation via a specially designed switch is conceivable.

Due to the size of such programs, it can also be considered that in the structural design of the device according to the invention the program is stored in a separately designed memory, in particular an EPROM, possibly in an EEPROM. Such a memory already has such a large capacity that the program can also be stored in multiple languages.

Cell phones usually have a power management system that supplies a CPU unit with connected input/output logic with electrical energy. This central processing unit accesses a memory, usually a

can be used, e.g. identification number, PIN numbers or the like.

The CPU unit then accesses another memory, usually an EEPROM, which can essentially serve as an address book and SMS memory.

The input/output logic is regularly addressed by a key combination for menu control and a keyboard block.

The correction program is called in conjunction with the I/O logic. As already explained, this call can be made by a command in the SMS menu or by pressing a special key. The input/output logic will then regularly check the correctness of an entered word, abbreviation and/or special character using the correction program, for the application of which another memory can be accessed preferentially.

1. Device for sending and receiving SMS, comprising an input device and a memory for storing an entered SMS, characterized in that a program can be called which checks the input for errors. 2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the program is a spelling program. 3. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the program checks the input during the input. 4. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that typical SMS abbreviations are already included in the program or can be entered in advance and/or during input. 5. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the program can be activated by means of a separate circuit. 6. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the program is stored in a separately designed memory. 7. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the program is multilingual.
