DISPOSABLE HYGIENE SLIP

The innovation relates to a disposable hygiene brief for patients with temporary or permanent impairment of their mental functions but with a high degree of mobility, such as mobile dementia patients or Alzheimer's patients in particular who are being cared for at home, in a day-care facility or in an inpatient setting. Of course, the innovation is also applicable to patients who are lying down in an inpatient care facility and who still have some conscious or unconscious mobility, such as stroke patients who are paralyzed on one side.

There are several types of disposable hygiene systems:

1. Open incontinence systems (incontinence pads) are held in place by underwear, such as panties or underpants, and are not fastened, for example according to G 90 05 385.

2. Anatomical incontinence pads or self-adhesive ones are usually glued into underwear, such as panties or underpants, as hygienic absorbent pads and can be easily removed, for example according to G 90 15 194.

3. Closed incontinence systems (disposable diapers that can be closed multiple times) tightly enclose the lower body and can be closed multiple times on the front (Velcro fasteners), for example according to DE 41 18 859.

4. Incontinence briefs sit firmly on the lower body and hold urine and stool well, for example according to G 88 17 715.

The target group of users is not always able to foresee or understand the consequences of their own actions. On the other hand, they are still so mobile that they sometimes still go to the toilet themselves. This means that the incontinence pads that you put in your underwear as per 1. cannot be used, because their purpose is not always understood and proper hygienic disposal is not guaranteed.

For the same reasons, the self-adhesive incontinence pads according to 2. cannot be used for the user group addressed.

Both of the above solutions are often perceived as physically disturbing by the patient and are therefore improperly removed by the patient themselves, although the type of attachment makes this removal possible in the first place.

Reusable, sealable disposable diapers according to 3. are safe to use, but are perceived by mobile patients themselves as physically disturbing because they are bulky and restrict movement. They are removed and often disposed of improperly and unhygienically.

The systems according to 1. to 3. allow, in contrast to incontinence briefs, a change without completely removing the underwear, but all systems presented have the disadvantage - because the purpose of such a system is no longer understood,

- because at the same time the purpose of such a system is forgotten,

- because the target group of users is often no longer able to control their own hygienic needs (incontinence) and

- because the systems are simply perceived as physically disturbing,

that patients themselves can remove and dispose of these systems in an uncontrolled and unhygienic manner. This, however, results in very severe contamination of the patient's body and clothing and also in his or her surroundings, which in turn results in a high level of cleaning effort and thus additional time burdens for the nursing staff.

■ Disposable diapers with side seams that can be removed once, as presented in EP 0 761 194 and DE 88 17 225, have been known for years. However, the disadvantage remains that the underwear must be completely removed to put on a new diaper, that an unused disposable diaper cannot be refastened and that the disadvantages of the disposable diaper mentioned above are not

the special patient group have not been eliminated.

An improvement is disclosed in DE-OS 197 35 304 A1, which consists of a belt-shaped part, firmly connected to an absorbent material on the stomach and back. The disturbing effect on the patient can be reduced by shaping the absorbent part to fit the body. However, since the connection between the belt and the absorbent part has to be made, the disturbing effect cannot be ruled out and the major disadvantage remains the complete removal of the underwear in order to put on a new one.

WO 98/37838 presents a multi-layer disposable diaper in which the usual Velcro fasteners are located on belt-like parts and are closed on the stomach side. In addition to the remaining and unimproved disturbing effect on the patient, the fasteners are still located on the stomach side in the immediate reach of the patient, as is the case with patients lying firmly on their backs or lying on their backs to change the diaper. The effects have already been described above and are still present.

Although this area of technology must be classified as an exhausted field due to the large number of products described and also the large number of products on the market, no viable solutions are available for the user patient group.

The invention specified in claim 1 is therefore based on the problem of creating a disposable hygiene brief that cannot be opened by the patient but can be easily opened by the nursing staff.

This problem is solved by arranging the fastening devices of the disposable hygiene briefs on the left and right side of the patient's waist area.

The advantages achieved with the invention are that the opening options of the disposable hygiene briefs are not directly accessible to the patient because the patient neither sees nor feels the opening options, and the briefs cannot be removed by the patient himself without completely undressing, but on the other hand can be easily and quickly changed by the nursing staff without completely undressing the patient.

An advantageous embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 2. This development consists in that a brief-like insert consisting of elastic mesh fabric is preferably arranged on an elastic waistband carrying the fastening devices and a known anatomical incontinence pad is firmly arranged, preferably sewn into, this brief-like insert.

The particular advantages are that the disposable hygiene briefs now fit snugly and elastically under the underwear and are therefore no longer perceived as a nuisance by the patients concerned. When going to the toilet independently, the patient perceives the disposable hygiene briefs as part of the underwear and can be pulled down or up like underwear without any nursing intervention.

A further advantage is the lower material requirement of the disposable hygiene briefs according to the invention, in particular due to the net-like design of the previous covering material.

A further advantageous embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 3. This further development consists in the fact that the fastening devices are preferably arranged on an elastic waistband as two known Velcro or adhesive fasteners and in the rear waist area of the patient, particularly advantageously, so that the

The closure ends coming from the outside lie on the closure ends coming from the back, pointing towards the patient's spine.

The particular advantages are that the disposable hygiene briefs are particularly easy for nursing staff to put on and remove.

A disposable hygiene brief for patients with temporary or permanent impairment of their mental functions while remaining largely independent of their own mobility usually consists of an absorbent material with a covering material on top with fastening devices arranged on the front of the patient. This arrangement of the fastening devices on the front is based in particular on the initial use as a baby article and has been adopted unchanged and untested for use in the adult sector. According to the invention,

These closure devices are now arranged on the left and right side of the patient's waist area.

Figure 1 shows a preferred embodiment of a disposable hygiene brief. A brief-like insert 4 made of elastic mesh fabric is arranged on an elastic waistband 5 that carries the fastening devices. A known anatomical incontinence pad 3 is firmly arranged in this brief-like insert 4. This known anatomical incontinence pad 3 is preferably sewn into the brief-like insert 4. This preferred embodiment of the disposable hygiene brief corresponds to protection claim 2.

In Figure 2, a preferred arrangement of the closure ends of a disposable hygiene brief is shown as a schematic representation according to claim 3. The closure devices are advantageously attached to the elastic waistband 5 as two known Velcro or adhesive fasteners 1 and 2. Particularly advantageously, these Velcro or adhesive fasteners 1 and 2 are arranged in such a way that the closure ends 6 coming from the front lie on the outside of the closure ends 7 coming from the back, pointing towards the patient's spine.

Depending on the situation, there are two ways of putting on the disposable hygiene briefs. These are explained in more detail using the preferred example of a mobile Alzheimer's patient, where the change preferably takes place while the patient is sitting and standing.

When getting dressed in the morning, the patient is given a disposable hygiene brief that is already closed like a pair of panties/underpants, i.e. the legs are put through the respective leg openings and the disposable hygiene brief is pulled over the lower body. The patient is then dressed as usual.

When changing a soiled disposable hygiene slip, the first thing to do is

Patients' usual legwear including panties/underpants is pulled down as if they were going to the toilet. The nurse then reaches for the openings on the back (Velcro or adhesive fasteners with a preferred length of 2 cm to 2.5 cm), opens these and pulls the soiled disposable hygiene briefs forwards between the patient's legs and disposes of the disposable hygiene briefs. The patient is then cleaned and a new disposable hygiene brief is put on. To do this, the opened disposable hygiene briefs are brought into position between the patient's legs, both fasteners are closed one after the other and the usual underwear is pulled over them.

If the patient is mainly lying down, the disposable hygiene briefs are of course put on in an open position and no further clothing is required or is replaced by an appropriate nightgown.

Claims (3)

1. Disposable hygiene briefs for patients with temporary or permanent impairment of their mental functions while retaining a high degree of mobility, consisting of an absorbent material with an overlying covering material with fastening devices, characterized in that these fastening devices are arranged on the left and right in the lateral rear waist area of the patient. 2. Disposable hygiene briefs according to protection claim 1, characterized in that a brief-like insert ( 4 ) consisting preferably of elastic mesh fabric is arranged on an elastic waistband ( 5 ) carrying the fastening devices and a known anatomical incontinence pad ( 3 ) is firmly arranged, preferably sewn into, this brief-like insert ( 4 ). 3. Disposable hygiene briefs according to protection claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the fastening devices are preferably arranged on an elastic waistband ( 5 ) as two known Velcro or adhesive fasteners ( 1 ) and ( 2 ), particularly advantageously so that the fastening ends ( 6 ) coming from the front lie on the outside of the fastening ends ( 7 ) coming from the back, pointing towards the patient's spine.
