Abstract

The invention relates to a method for applying a coating or cover layer (10) which is a uniformly thick, especially white layer, from a transfer roller (30) to a metal can of a plurality of cylindrical metal cans (20). The respective metal can (20) is supported by a respective mandrel (21) in a manner so that it cannot slip and is rotated at a peripheral coating speed (vA). The transfer roller (30) is rotated during application of the layer (10) at substantially the same peripheral speed (vB). A coating layer (11; 11a, 11b, 11c) which is already present on the surface of said transfer roller and which differs in thickness in its peripheral direction is transferred to the respective metal can (20) in an area of contact in a slip-free manner (vA-vB). Two sections of the coating layer which are applied peripherally on the metal can (20) overlap and complement each other from opposite directions, thereby rendering the coating layer more uniform.
