Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for folding an inflation air bags for motor vehicles. The invention also relates to a Device for performing such a method.
Such methods and devices are used to inflatable Fold the airbag to a size that allows it to be put together folded airbag as part of an airbag module, for example as To mount the driver, front passenger or side airbag on a vehicle. Here the airbag must be folded so that it inflates can deploy to the vehicle as quickly as possible in the event of an accident to protect occupants. Situations should also be recorded here those of the vehicle occupant to be protected at the time of inflation the airbag is not in its normal sitting position.
It is the problem (task) on which the invention is based, a method ren as well as a device for collapsing an inflatable air to create sacks with which an air bag in the simplest possible way can be folded such that by inflating the Air bags in the event of an accident may provide protection for vehicle occupants is as big as possible.
This object is achieved by the features of the method claim 1 and in particular in that the airbag in the spread state at two at least approximately opposite edge regions each provided with a pre-fold, partially inflated, compressed in the area of the pre-folds, by applying egg nes negative pressure at least partially evacuated again, and folded to the final package size.
According to the invention, the airbag is spread out before the actual one First fold up with pre-folds. It is established been that if a preliminary with the pre-folding according to the invention provided airbag folded to the final package size the airbag inflates faster in the event of an accident spreads those directions in which the edge areas are not with a Pre-folding are provided. The pre-folded edge areas therefore delay the full deployment of the airbag into the pre-folded edge range corresponding directions. By the invention folds can give the airbag a defined unfolding characteristic be awarded, which is characterized by the fact that preferential direction conditions are present in which the airbag is inflated faster unfolded than in other directions. By the way the incident The deployment characteristics of the airbag can be specifically adjusted and so can unfold any unfolding scenarios be specified.
The inventive design of the pre-folds to two at least approximately opposite edge areas and compressing the airbag in the area of the pre-folds the airbag can be brought into a regular or symmetrical shape or have a regular or a certain symmetry be outlined, which has the consequence that the airbag unfolded regularly or symmetrically when inflated. He according to the invention can be put together by appropriate orientation folded air bags during installation in the vehicle that the pre-folded edge areas are those when inflating of the airbag striving towards the vehicle side walls areas. The airbag will therefore fasten in the event of an accident unfold up and down than left and right. With egg Nem accident is thus prevented that when inflating upwards striving area of the airbag, for example, under the chin of the be hit vehicle occupants.
According to the invention, the airbag after the pre-folding has been formed conditions, but before compressing the airbag in the area of Pre-folds being partially inflated can cause unwanted wrinkles in Airbag to be eliminated. By inflating, the airbag becomes like this with optimally prepared for the final folding.
By applying the negative pressure according to the invention the airbag is pressed together in the area of the pre-folds state obtained by this compression. This is ensured that the airbag proceeding from a condition generally is finally folded.
The pre-folds can, for example, be folded or folded the edge areas are formed. It is also possible to be in the fringes Chen indentations to form the pre-folds. Before zuge the pre-folds are carried out such that the pre-folded Edge areas each run approximately straight and approximately parallel to one another. Starting from such a pre-folded state, the airbag by pressing together on the pre-folded edge areas to simp be brought into a regular form.
It is preferred if the pre-folds are formed by hand. Here by means of the mechanical effort required for the folding process kept low. In addition, the manual can work the Vor folds are formed with special care.
According to a variant of the invention, the pre-folded margin che each with at least one tearable by inflating the airbag fixed seam. This ensures on the one hand that the prefolding remain when folding the airbag. On the other hand the delay of the complete Ent folding at the pre-folded edge areas compared to the not pre- folded edge areas specifically by appropriate formation of the seams can be set. Due to the seams, the unfolding characteristic of the airbag can thus be influenced.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the the pre-folded airbag provided with several in egg ner common level and in particular between a support surface for the airbag and a cover moving sliding elements together quantity folded. As a result, the airbag can automatically and in reprodu can be folded up quickly and easily.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention the airbag is compressed in the area of the pre-folds, that the airbag is provided with a central constriction. In particular especially depending on the size of the pre-folded edge areas and the way the airbag is compressed in the front folded edge areas he can different types of airbag outline be fathered. For example, bone, propeller, candy, achieve dumbbell-shaped or figure-eight-shaped outlines, these regular for the final pack size before folding Applying the negative pressure can be fixed.
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the folding method according to the invention is formed.
Further preferred embodiments of both the invention Folding method and the folding device according to the invention are in the dependent claims, the description and the drawing.
Es zeigen:The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the Drawing described. Show it:

In Fig. 1a and Fig. 1b, an airbag 12 is shown in a schematic side view, which is attached in the region of its opening to a ringförmi gene holding element 13 . The airbag is in each case in the inter mediate between a cover 18 and a support surface 16 arranged. At the beginning of the folding method according to the invention, the holding element 13 is inserted into an opening in the support surface 16 . At closing the airbag 12 is completely spread out. The airbag 12 and the holding element 13 are components of a driver or front passenger airbag module, the airbag 12 having an approximately circular, oval or pillow-shaped outline in the expanded state.
After the spreading of the air bag 12 14 precreases be at two mutually opposite edge regions formed by 14 Einstülpun be provided gene in play, according to Fig. 1a, the edge portions folded 14 down or turned up or according to FIG. 1b at the edge regions. Basically, pre-folds formed according to the invention are possible in any manner, wherein several types of pre-folds can also be combined with each other at an edge region 14 . Figs. 1a and 1b are - in particular as regards the formation of the precreases - to be understood as explanatory views showing schematic and the particular example of the precreases.
In the plan view of Fig. 2, the pillow-shaped outline of the spread air bag 12 can be seen. The pre-folds on the edge regions 14 of the airbag 12 have been designed such that the edge regions 14 are each straight and run parallel to one another. By dashed lines in Fig. 2, the edges of the air bag 12 covered by the air bag envelope and the holding element 13 are indicated.
As will be described in more detail are, for folding the air bag 12 sliding bodies 22, 24 are provided, which on the support surface 16 (see. Fig. 1a and Fig. 1b) rest and in the intermediate space between the cover 18 and the pad can be shifted 16 . As indicated in FIG. 2 by the double arrows, the respective sliding members 22 , 24 arranged in pairs opposite one another can be moved towards and away from one another. Two elongated sliding members 22 , which are also referred to below as the first sliding members 22 , are formed on their mutually facing end faces complementary to the ring-shaped holding element 13 . The two other sliding members 24 , which are also referred to below as second sliding members 24 , are provided with mutually facing flat end faces which run parallel to the direction of movement of the first sliding members 22 .
The interacting with the airbag 12 end faces of the Schiebeor gane 22 , 24 each have a planar extent, that is, the sliding members 22 , 24 are not zen swords or Faltlan. With the flat end faces of the sliding members 22 , 24 , the air bag 12 is thus pushed together.
Before the sliding members 22 , 24 are set in motion, the airbag 12 is partially inflated. This takes place by means of a compressed air source 15 , which is connected to the interior of the airbag 12 via the holding element 13 . By briefly activating the compressed air source 15 , the airbag 12 is inflated to such an extent that the airbag envelope is smoothed and, with the exception of the pre-folds at the edge regions 14, there are no larger folds.
When the airbag 12 is partially inflated, its upward spread is limited by the cover 18 . Therefore, the airbag 12 is stretched substantially in the horizontal direction when partially inflated, but the pressure within the air pressure 12 is adjusted so that the pre-folds at the edge regions 14 are retained. It is possible according to the invention to fix the pre-folds at the edge regions 14 by means of seams. In this case, when the airbag 12 is partially inflated, a higher pressure can be provided within the airbag 12 . Such seams are designed as tear seams that tear open in the event of an accident when the airbag is fully inflated.
In this partially inflated state, the airbag 12 is then pressed together by means of the elongated first sliding members 22 which act on the airbag 12 at its pre-folded edge regions 14 . The end faces of the first sliding members 22 which are shaped complementary to the holding element 13 ensure that the airbag 12 is adapted to the circular shape in the region compressed by the first sliding members 22 .
As shown in FIG. 3, the air bag 12 , which is still partially inflated, is provided by being compressed at the pre-folded edge areas 14 with a central constriction formed in the area of the holding element 13 and brought into a regular shape. The airbag 12 has an outline in the example shown here, which can be described as bone or propeller-shaped.
After the air bag 12 presses together amount to the pre-folded edge portions 14 and has been brought into a regular shape, the air bag 12 is evacuated by applying a reduced pressure by a pump 17 again. In this way, the regular state previously established is fixed. If the first sliding members 22 are pulled back after applying the vacuum, preferably a few seconds after activating the pump 17 , the regular shape of the airbag 12 obtained previously by the compression at the edge regions 14 and now fixed by the applied vacuum is retained.
After retracting the first sliding members 22 , the second sliding members 24 are moved towards each other until the state shown in Fig. 4 is reached. The space delimited by the bearing surface 16 and the cover 18 and the four sliding elements 22 , 24 is essentially completely filled in by the partially folded airbag.
The previously obtained regular shape of the airbag 12 has the effect that the airbag is not compressed completely irregularly by the second slide members 24 , since the pre-folded edge regions 14 remain in the vicinity of the holding element 13 . By compressing with means of the second sliding members 24 are formed thus two elongated packets in the state of FIG. 4 are adjacent and in which the perpendicular to the direction of movement of the second shift Orga ne 24 passes before prevailing direction of air bag folds formed by the second slide elements 24.
The first sliding members 22 are then moved towards one another again, the second sliding members 24 being left in their end position near the holding element 13 . In the end position of the sliding members 22 , 24 according to FIG. 5, the area remaining between the sliding members 22 , 24 is not or only insignificantly larger than the cross-sectional area of the holding element 13 .
The pump 17 used to evacuate the airbag 12 is only switched off after the substantially fully folded state of the airbag 12 according to FIG. 5 has been reached.
The airbag 12 arranged between the sliding members 22 , 24 and the bearing surface 16 and the cover 18 is now essentially completely compressed to its final package size. I wonder if the air bag 12 looks like folded irregularly, the final folded in the inventive manner airbag 12 a regularity, which ensures that the airbag can unfold in an accident in a way 12 that in particular through the precreases at the edge regions 14 and by pressing the airbag 12 together at the pre-folded edge regions 14 can be given.
Finally, the cover 18 can be removed and the airbag 12 can be compressed in the vertical direction by means of a stamp member, not shown, which is moved in the vertical direction. After removal of the holding element 13 from the opening in the support surface 16 , the unit comprising the holding element 13 and the folded airbag 12 can be mounted on an airbag module provided for installation in a vehicle.
