Verfahren zur Reduktion von Farbstoffen der Indigoreihe.Process for the reduction of dyes of the indigo series.
Berzelius (Annalen der Physik und Chemie von Poggendorf, Volume X [1827], page 126) indicates that iron will only give indigo in the presence of free alkali or an alkaline Earth reduced; he says: " . . . without this, there is no reduction ”. In Thus, according to Berzelius, there is no reduction in neutral or acidic solution. In contrast to the information provided by Berzelius it has now been found that indigo and the other indigo dyes are obtained by means of iron reduce to free indigo white in a neutral or weakly acidic solution; here it is advantageous, but not absolutely necessary, to use carriers, such as e.g. B. small amounts Zinc or zinc and bisulfite, or small amounts of other metals, such as tin or Add copper, known as a carrier.
Indigo or a corresponding halogen or tolylindigo in a finely divided state is in the form of a thick aqueous, possibly also common salt or chlorammonium containing paste, which is useful for. B. with small amounts of bisulfite, iron salts, Tin or zinc salts can be added, with a fine iron file at about 95 to 100 ° with the possible exclusion of air, that is z. B. in a closed vessel, heated with stirring; vigorous stirring is very important here essential. You can also go over 100 ° here, i.e. under pressure if necessary work. The amount of iron expediently to be used in the reduction is directed to the extent that the size of the approaches is larger than that of small approaches It is beneficial to use iron; the concentration of the indigo paste is insofar as well not without influence, as with larger batches it is practical to work with indigo powder and water, while with smaller batches the use of indigo dough, so a greater dilution is advisable; so z. B. 20 kg of indigo dough 20 percent heated with the same amount of iron filament and about 80 liters of water in a stirred kettle to about 95 to 100 °, mixed with 100 g of zinc dust and the reducing mass with complete exclusion of air and kept stirring well at 95 to 100 ° until the reduction is a is complete. The indigo white is then converted from the iron sludge into a soluble salt, ζ. Β. Sodium salt, separately. The solution thus obtained is then either used as a vat immediately or after evaporation to dryness or the indigo white is made by the usual means failed. The yield of indigo white is very good; she was z. B. with the above Try immediately about 90 percent without taking into account the indigo white left in the iron sludge.
