Abstract

The use of thiacloprid (i.e. N-(3-(6-chloro-pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-thiazolidin-2-ylidene)-cyanamide) (I) for protecting articles against fouling is new.

Description

The present invention relates to a method and means for protecting Be grew from objects, especially from hulls, screens, nets, construction plants, quay systems and signaling systems, which with sea or brackish water in Ver bond come.

Overgrowth by sessile oligochaetes, such as lime tube worms and by mussels and species of the Ledamorpha (barnacles) group, such as various lepas and Scalpellum species, or by species of the group Blanomorpha (barnacles), such as Balanus or pollicipes species, increases the frictional resistance of ships and subsequently leads through increased energy consumption and moreover through frequent Dry dock stays for a significant increase in operating costs.

In addition to the growth by algae, for example Ectocarpus sp. and Ceramium sp., comes in particular the vegetation by sessile Entomostraken groups, which can be summarized under the name Cirripedia (barnacles) special importance.

Es ist bereits bekannt, daß N-[3-(6-Chlorpyridin-3-ylmethyl)thiazolidin-2-yliden]cy anamid (Thiacloprid) insektizide Eigenschaften besitzt (EP 235 725).It is already known that N- [3- (6-chloropyridin-3-ylmethyl) thiazolidin-2-ylidene] cy anamide (thiacloprid) has insecticidal properties (EP 235 725).

It has now surprisingly been found that thiacloprid alone or in Combination with other active ingredients, an excellent antiflouling (antibe growth) effect.
