Abstract

The arrangement has two rotatable mirrors (2) and a filter with a retardation foil (3) for rotating the direction of polarization of light by 90 degrees. The filter and mirrors are adjusted with respect to each other so that the polarization direction of the light beam of only one of two stereo half images is rotated and both half-images are projected onto each other on the projection surface (5).

Description

In: IEEE Transactions on Consumer, Electronics, Vol 34, No 3 August 1988; S. 536-542)Moving stereo images are so far on expensive hardware, such as. B. Workstations with 3-D Graphics options and frequency-controlled LC glasses, on the screen or through use accessible from expensive multi-jet devices on projection surfaces (US 45 04 856 and IWASAKI et al. 3-dimensional personal computer system. In: IEEE Transactions on Consumer, Electronics, Vol 34, No 3 August 1988; Pp. 536-542)

Alternative solutions by using an optical attachment for single-beam Video projectors have been described as prism construction in JP 09281616 or as Mirror construction presented in DE 196 08 362.

The invention specified in the claim is based on the problem by improved header for a single-beam video projector moving stereo images on one to produce polarized light reflective canvas with a simple Polarizing glasses can be considered.

This problem is solved by the features listed in the claim.

The advantages achieved with the invention are in particular that the previous one Construction significantly simplified and the quality of 3D image reproduction significantly is improved. This is mainly achieved by having a fixed mirror as well two polarization filters are omitted and a retardation filter is used. This will make the Light absorption of one stereo field clearly and that of the other even to zero reduced so that more brilliant 3-D images are projected. This also has the positive Effect that the presentation rooms do not have to be darkened so much. Besides, is the adjustment effort for the new front part is lower. The optical attachment can in principle can be placed on any LCD single-beam video projector. The with graphics software or a stereo camera Fields are alternatively from a video cassette or on-line via PC or Graphics workstation can be displayed on the video projector.

The development offers especially for lectures, e.g. B. in teaching and research as well as in school lessons, easy access to the projection of moving stereo images. Such presentations are particularly moving for the mediation of spatial vision Images of particular interest in chemistry, biochemistry, medicine and architecture.

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing and is in the following described in more detail.

Fig. 1 shows a sketch of the optical front part in plan view.

By means of an optical attachment ( Fig. 1) for a linearly polarized light emitting video projector ( 1 ) consisting of two rotatably arranged mirrors ( 2 ) and a correspondingly positioned filter with a retardation film ( 3 ), which are adjusted so that the polarization direction of the Light beam is only rotated by 90 ° from a stereo field and the two stereo fields of the stereoscopic representation generated next to one another are projected onto one another on a projection surface ( 5 ). A diaphragm ( 4 ) is attached to the attachment in such a way that disturbing reflections caused by scattered light from the attachment on the edges of the projection surface are prevented. With the help of simple polarizing glasses and using a polarized light reflecting projection surface, the 3-D images can be viewed.
