Es ist heutzutage üblich, daß die EDV-Anlage mit: Drucker, Modem, Scanner und Aktivlautsprechern ausgestattet ist. Alle diese Geräte müssen nacheinander ein- und ausgeschaltet werden. Die Netzteile der Personal Computer (PC's) werden oft mit einem Ausgang ausgestattet, der nach dem Einschalten der Anlage den Monitor mit Energie versorgt. Ein direkter Nutzen dieses Ausgangs könnte bei zu hoher Strom belastung die EDV-Anlage beschädigen.
