Abstract
Description
For the quantitative detection of X-rays and gamma rays at average quantum energies of 10 to 150 keV traditionally gas-filled ionization tubes or solids scintillators in combination with photomultiplier tubes or Semiconductor photodiodes used. While in the first case the Ionizing effect of X-rays directly for detection the electrical charges generated in this way are used, serve in the second case the lighting properties of solid bodies fluorescent materials, the X-rays initially never their energetic and especially visible radiation deln. This can then be done via a light sensitive film or detected a radiation detector for visible light will.
In photodiodes, for example, the less energy is visible bare radiation converted into a current signal. This is pro proportional to the absorbed energy dose of the energy-rich Radiation. It can be used to generate radiation contrast images in imaging systems, for example in X-ray imaging systems medical diagnostics and non-destructive Use material testing. These pictures give the mean the linear attenuation coefficient over the entire ener spectrum of the radiation transmitted by an object again. Image signals measured in this way thus represent only represents the attenuation contrast across the entire spectrum and are not energy selective.
Additional information about that with the high energy Radiation irradiated object, for example via the chemi cal composition or the elements contained therein and the density can be obtained if next to the Schwä contrast across the entire energy spectrum as further Information still the energy of the transmitted radiation preserved and thus the picture after another dimension can be resolved.
So far, there are two options for energy-selective imaging Exercise known in X-ray systems. In the so-called two-spec The object to be examined is trenscanned one after the other irradiated with two different X-ray spectra and the measure transmitted radiation. The different X-ray spectra are obtained by varying the X-ray tube chip received. With this method, each of these partial specs tren an average of the linear attenuation coefficients of the Assigned sub-spectrum and thus a weakening difference picture allows. The disadvantage is that two X-rays are necessary, which extend the examination time and the Thurs increase sis.
A multi-element detector is known from GB 2 224 328 A. This consists of several individual phosphor elements arranged one behind the other in the beam direction. These are optically isolated from each other and optically coupled to the side with a photo diode. The phosphor elements consist of a uniform phosphor such as (Y / Gd) 2 O 3 : Eu, CsI, BaGdO, CdWO 4 or Bi 4 Ge 2 O 12 . The X-ray detector thus differentiates the measured radiation according to the location of the absorption, ie measures the penetration depth of the radiation, which is dependent on the energy of the radiation, into the multi-element detector. The disadvantage of this is that each of these detector elements requires elaborate optical isolation in order to prevent crosstalk of the phosphor elements. Fluorescent elements and photodiodes are also arranged side by side transversely to the beam direction. This requires a relatively large amount of space for the detector, so that at best a linear detector arrangement is possible which only allows high resolution in one dimension.
The object of the present invention is an energy selek tive detector arrangement to specify a simple structure owns and the disadvantages of the known energy selective detectors avoided.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a detector arrangement solved according to claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the Invention and a method for measuring an energy distribution further claims can be found.
In the invention, the high-energy to be measured Radiation according to its penetration depth and thus according to its energy differentiated. The invention at least points to this two converter layers, one behind the other in the beam direction arranged differently and optically coupled to each other. In each of the converter layers becomes part of the high energy radiation and absorbed into secondary radiation (Luminescence) converted, the differing in Chen converter layers generated secondary radiation differ in the wavelength range. In an optical detection device coupled to the converter layers the secondary radiation becomes wavelength-dependent or waves proven depending on length range.
The detector arrangement according to the invention has a simple one Building on. All elements are optically coupled, so that no ne optical isolation is required.
A high-energy radiation, the parts with different Lich energy content is in the invention Detector arrangement on the energy content or the energy spec of the secondary radiation. Evidence or their detection is possible in a simple manner, for which a A number of different detection devices are known.
Because of the one behind the other in the direction of radiation Converter layers and the detection device is for that Detector arrangement requires a minimum of space. It is therefore possible to use several detector elements, each of which which represents a detector arrangement according to the invention, in ei integrate one or two dimensions. In this way can also detector lines and detector arrays if necessary be built in integrated production.
By varying the layer thickness and / or by suitable Selection of the converter layers with respect to a certain Ab sorption behavior succeeds in adapting the detector arrangement the energy distribution of the radiation to be measured. Usually a high-energy radiation is measured, that has already irradiated an object to be examined. Therefore, layer thickness and / or material for the converters layers selected in such a way that the or objects to be mapped one for signal acquisition and Imaging favorable signal level for the individual wavelengths areas in the detection of secondary radiation.
The material for the converter layers is, for example selected from phosphors. These can be amorphous, kri stalline or ceramic solids for the Secondary radiation high permeability, for the high erotic radiation, however, good absorption and one have high luminescence efficiency. This guarantees Continues that a maximum proportion of the high-energy beam tion detected as secondary radiation in the detection device and is measured. Suitable phosphors for the Invention according converter layers are, for example, known Lumi nescent substances such as zinc and cadmium tungstate, zinc silicate with Manganese or bismuth doping, yttrium, lanthanum and gadoli nium oxysulfide, each doped with rare earth elements, yttri um- and gadolinium oxide with europium doping, calcium fluorine phosphate with antimony and manganese doping and others here phosphors not listed in detail.
The first and the at least one further converter layer are selected so that the wavelength ranges of their clearly distinguish emitted secondary radiation. There are Phosphors with differently wide emission bands knows. The maxima of the emission bands are preferably the different converter layers by at least one Average half-width of the emission bands from each other away. Preferably, the converter layer used no absorption band for the emitted secondary (s) radiation (s).
Become phosphors with narrow for the converter layers Emission bands selected, so can more according to the invention as two and up to five converter layers in the detector arrangement can be arranged one behind the other without their Overlapping emission bands too much.
The detection device for the secondary radiation comprises ent neither a photodetector between all the wavelengths can differentiate areas of the secondary radiation, or several, each in one of the wavelength ranges sensitive che photodetectors. Suitable photodetectors are included play photomultiplier, photo elements or preferably photo diodes. Others for one of the wavelength ranges of the Secondary radiation sensitive photo detectors are suitable. The sensitivity for one of the wavelength ranges can from the normal absorption spectrum of the photodetector surrender. However, it is also possible to have one in a wide range Area sensitive photodetector using a color film ters to a narrower, one of the wavelength ranges of the Area corresponding to secondary radiation sensitive to ma chen. To hide a short-wave area are at for example, edge filter suitable. These have a high Absorption in a short-wave range with sharply declining lender absorption edge. This ensures beyond the Ab sorption edge a high permeability for the detection wavelength range.
In one embodiment of the invention, which is particularly for a detector arrangement with two converter layers is suitable is, the detection device comprises two optically in series coupled photosensitive elements. The in Beam direction front an absorption for a first one shorter wavelength range and a transmission for the second, longer wavelength wavelength range of the secondary radiation. This is how the front photodetector works as a color filter for the short-wave radiation or the short wavier wavelength range of the secondary radiation.
One way of designing such an arrangement is distinguished by known multilayer diodes Licher spectral sensitivity given their diodes. These multilayer diodes, for example, differ che semiconductor materials with different bandgap on. Multi-layer diodes with a are known, for example Amorphous silicon (a-Si: H) photodiode over a photodi ode made of amorphous germanium (a-Ge: H), the bandgaps of for example 1.8 or 0.9 eV. This corresponds to egg absorption maximum of 550 nm for the silicon diode or of 800 nm for the germanium diode.
The different diodes can be directly one above the other can be generated with an intermediate electrode layer. Al le three electrode layers are independently controllable and for example connected in parallel. Thus, according to absor Secondary radiation independent of each other (Electrical) measurement signals in one or both sub-diodes will hold.
Such a multilayer diode based on amorphous silicon Zium is known for example from DE A 19 512 493. With different doping in the partial diodes and by means of different electrical potentials is a proof of incident light in up to three un different wavelength ranges possible at the same time.
An evaluator can be used for the energy-selective detector arrangement tion unit can be provided which the intensities of the measured secondary radiation for the different wel len length ranges assigned, measuring signals compared. Out this comparison becomes an energy distribution of the incident high-energy radiation determined. This can be done with the help an algorithm. However, it is also possible that Intensity comparison with an allocation table of energy allocate distribution of high-energy radiation. The Allocation table can be determined by a calibration with a Radiation of known energy distribution can be created.
The detector arrangement is preferably imaged lighting method used, for example in Röntgenge advise. From the intensity comparison of the measurement signals of the night pointing device or from the energy ver division of the measured high-energy radiation obtain information about the illuminated object, whose transmitted radiation ge with the detector arrangement will measure.

The optical coupling of the converter layers and the detection device is achieved by optically coating the surfaces, which are ground particularly flat, for example. The converter layer with the optically denser material can have an anti-reflective layer. The first and second converter layers K1 and K2 are preferably in direct contact without a gap or intermediate layer. The detection device NE can also be in close contact with the lower converter layer K2.
In the figure the detector arrangement is with two converters layers shown. In the same way, however also possible more than two converter layers in a row to arrange and optically couple.
Fig. 2 shows the situation by way of example of two emission bands of secondary radiation of any two converter layers. EB1 denotes the emission band for the secondary radiation generated in the first converter layer K1, and EB2 denotes the secondary radiation generated in the second converter layer K2. The emission band EB1 preferably corresponds to a longer-wavelength range compared to the emission band EB2 of the second converter layer. However, it is also possible that the first converter layer generates a secondary radiation with light shorter-wave compared to the secondary radiation of the second converter layer.
Ganz allgemein und insbesondere für mehr als zwei Konverter schichten gilt, daß die Elemente in einer tieferliegenden Konverterschicht Kn+1 eine höher liegende K-Kante für die Röntgenabsorption besitzen als die jeweils höher liegende Konverterschicht Kn.Suitable combinations of phosphors for a detector arrangement according to the invention with, for example, two or more converter layers are selected such that the first converter layer comprises a phosphor with elements which has a deeper K-edge for X-ray absorption than the elements of the phosphor of the second converter layer . In general and in particular for more than two converter layers, the elements in a lower converter layer K n + 1 have a higher K edge for X-ray absorption than the higher converter layer K n .
Fig. 3 shows a multilayer diode, which is a suitable device as a device for the detection of the secondary radiation of two wavelength ranges. This is built up, for example, on a substrate S made of glass, for example, and comprises the following layers, which are produced one after the other: the bottom layer is a back electrode RE, which can be made of metal or of a transparent conductive oxide (TCO). Next follows the semiconductor layer for the amorphous germanium diode GD, which has an internally nip structure, for example. The next layer is the middle electrode layer ME, which is a TCO layer. The semiconductor layers of the amorphous silicon diode SD, which has, for example, a pin structure internally, are attached above it. Finally, a front electrode layer FE follows, which in turn is formed from TCO.
Depending on the layer thickness of the amorphous silicon di ode SD, for example, absorbs the up to 600 nm appropriate wavelength range of incident light or incident lender secondary radiation. Long-wave secondary radiation is both of the silicon diode SD and the one in between lying middle electrode layer ME passed and in the germanium diode GD absorbed.
By suitable doping of the semiconductor layers both in the silicon diode SD as well as in the germanium diode GD possible, the band gap and thus the sensitivity range the semiconductor layers or the photodiodes in the long or to shift the shorter-wave range. In this way can the multilayer diode arrangement shown the location of the Emission bands EB1 and EB2 can be adjusted.
The use of a multilayer diode arrangement as evidence device in the detector arrangement has the advantage that such a multilayer diode structure itself in an integrated manner leaves. In this way it is possible to easily create a location-sensitive detection device for the secondary beam to make available. Such a structured one Detection facility can be structured accordingly combined layers and results in a detector order, the incident high-energy radiation local and can demonstrate energy-resolved. The detector arrangement can thereby as a detector line with one-dimensional or as a detector be designed with two-dimensional resolution.
Fig. 4 shows a detector arrangement which comprises two differently sensitive photodetectors PD1 and PD2 for separate detection of the different wavelength ranges of the secondary radiation. These are arranged next to each other and approximately the same area. With this arrangement, too, the high-energy radiation can be detected in a spatially resolved manner if a sufficient number of pairs or sets of photodetectors are arranged next to one another under appropriately structured converter layers.
If the wavelength sensitivity of a photodetector is about reaches a color filter, a two-part photodi ode can be used, one structured and two un different color filters on existing filter layer points. This structuring can be done with known Carry out photo techniques or lift-off procedures. The waiter surfaces of the converter layers can be from an optical Re reflector layer R to be covered to the light output on the photo to increase detector PD by reflected light.
In a detector arrangement according to the invention, the first converter layer K1 comprises, for example, the phosphor Y 2 O 2 S: Eu, which has an emission band at a wavelength λem1 = 615 nm. The second converter layer K2 comprises the phosphor Gd 2 O 2 S: Pr, which has an emission band at a wavelength λem2 = 510 nm. A suitable thickness for the first converter layer K1 is 0.3 mm for this embodiment, for example, the thickness for the second converter layer K2 is 1 mm. Both converter layers can be connected with an approx. 3 µm thick adhesive layer made of an epoxy resin. A two-part photodetector PD made of c-Si with a combination of two different optical filters for detecting the emission light in the two wavelength ranges is then suitable as the detection device NE. For λem1 there is, for example, an edge filter OG 570 (absorption edge at 570 nm) and for λem2 an interference filter with a window at 510 nm (half width 100 nm). With regard to the remaining dimensions, a detector element of 2 mm × 1 mm is sufficient.

An incomplete payment of other possible lights fabric combinations for first and second and in one version Example of a third converter layer are the the following table 1.
