Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for cleaning iron pentacarbonyl contaminated CO.
The iron contained in the steel can form the complex iron pentacarbonyl Fe (CO) 5 with CO.
In the course of studies on the purification of exhaust gases from combustion processes with catalysts, CO is required for the simulation of process gases. An example of this is the cleaning of the reformate in fuel cell systems for mobile applications by selective CO oxidation in an H 2 atmosphere, using CO for the simulation of the reformate. Steel bottles are also often removed for this purpose. If the CO contaminated with iron pentacarbonyl comes into contact with the CO oxidation catalyst, it decomposes to Fe and CO and deactivates the catalyst. It fakes degradations that would never occur under real reformate operation. It is therefore necessary to clean the CO. For this purpose, who used the molecular sieves.
A disadvantage of these molecular sieves is that their absorption capacity or the load is relatively low for the same volume. In addition, the molecular sieves ensure a strong pressure drop on the line.
Furthermore, from US 54 88 143 A is a relatively complex Purification process of iron pentacarbonyl contaminated CO is known in which iodine is added to the contaminated CO becomes. The resulting iron-iodine compound becomes then with the help of an adsorption filter from the Gas flow removed.
The object of the invention is to provide a process for cleaning iron pentas to create carbonyl contaminated CO with the problems mentioned be overcome.
This object is achieved with the method according to claim 1. Beneficial Embodiments of the invention and the use of a catalyst are Subject of further claims.
Dabei zerfällt es in CO und Fe.According to the invention, the CO contaminated with iron pentacarbonyl contacted a Pt or Pd catalyst. It breaks down into CO and Fe.
The absorption capacity or the loading with the same volume is clear higher and the pressure drop in the line lower than with the previously used deten molecular sieves.
In an advantageous embodiment, Al 2 O 3 is used as the carrier material for the catalyst. Other possible carrier materials are zeolites or active carbon.
Der Be reich bevorzugter Temperaturen liegt bei 150 bis 250°C.In order to accelerate the decomposition of the Fe (CO) 5 , the catalyst can be heated, an electric heater being particularly advantageous. The range of preferred temperatures is 150 to 250 ° C.
The Pd or Pt catalyst is preferred in the manner of an in-line filter di arranged in the CO line.
The invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment with reference to a FIG . The Fig. Shows an arrangement for carrying out the inventive method. The CO contaminated with Fe (CO) 5 , for example from a steel bottle, is passed to a Pt / Al 2 O 3 catalyst 3 , here a catalyst of the type 5 mA% Pt / γ-Al 2 O 3 , at which the Fe (CO) 5 decomposes into CO and Fe, the Fe being deposited on the catalyst 3 . The cleaned CO can then z. B. to simulate the reformate in the context of the studies for the cleaning of reformate in fuel cell system for mobile applications by selective CO oxidation in H 2 atmosphere re used. The catalytic converter 3 can be heated electrically by means of an electric heater 5 . The heater 5 is connected to a device for temperature control 7 .
