Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for detecting the beam passage, e.g. B. the piercing time when machining a workpiece by means of a laser beam according to the preamble of patent claim 1 and an apparatus for performing the method according to the Preamble of claim 8.
With this method, the one emitted by the workpiece electromagnetic radiation due to the impact of the laser beam is generated on the workpiece by one or more Detek gates carried by the laser processing head. This Measuring signal is used after it has been processed by an evaluation circuit has been used to output a status signal, e.g. B. to issue a Command to start a feed movement. The status signal then output when the level of the measurement signal after the through puncture falls below a predetermined level.
A disadvantage of this method, however, is that changes in the level of the measurement signal due to aging, heating or contamination of the Detectors lead to misinterpretation. Another disadvantage arises due to the decreasing measurement signal level with increasing depth of penetration of the laser beam into the workpiece. This can do the above described method only for workpieces up to a relatively small Thickness are used, because otherwise the measurement signal level below the predetermined level drops even though the laser beam still hangs over the workpiece has not penetrated.
The invention has for its object the method of the beginning mentioned type so that it is more independent of interference of the detector and workpiece thickness. In addition, a Suitable device for performing the method can be specified.
The procedural solution to the task can be found in Claim 1. In contrast, the device sided solution of the task in the patent Claim 8 specified.
A method according to the invention is characterized in that little at least two mean values of the intensity of the detected radiation at each different time constants are formed, and that the status signal is generated when the mean values in a predetermined Stand in relation to each other.
Signs of aging, warming or contamination of the detector gates and equally different workpiece thicknesses therefore play a role in Generation of the status signal no longer matters, so that the passage of the laser beam can be determined much more precisely.
The status signal according to the invention is then preferably generated if an average value formed with a smaller time constant is smaller than a fraction of an average formed with a larger time constant. Of the The mean value formed with a larger time constant is relatively stable and can be easily determined as a reference value. The fraction, be smaller by the mean value formed with a smaller time constant depending on the constant formed over a longer period of time desired sensitivity of the method can be set, for example, to a value in the range of 30% to 40% of the larger Time constant formed mean.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the funds are formed evaluate different filters. Here it can be z. B. low pass filters with different passband.
However, it is also possible to form the mean values using arithmetic or geometric averaging using digital signal processing.
The various mean values can be done simultaneously or sequentially be generated. In the case of sequential generation of the mean values they, or at least one of them, must be cached will.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the larger one Time constant formed mean also with a reference value can be compared, which is specified as a constant value. In this Case can thus also be an undesirable here in laser welding Detect passage of the laser beam through the workpiece or in the case of laser cutting, a condition in which the workpiece is not completely cut by the laser beam.
An inventive device for machining a workpiece by means of a laser beam with at least one sensor for detection the intensity coming from a machining point of the workpiece the radiation, and with an evaluation circuit for generating a Status signal with a predetermined change in intensity, stands out characterized in that the evaluation circuit first means for forming at least two mean values of the intensity of the detected radiation different time constants as well as these mean values in relation mutually setting second means for generating the status signal contains, which are electrically connected to the first means.
The evaluation circuit containing the first and second means can mounted directly on the laser processing head or with be connected via a cable. To detect the of the Processing outgoing radiation can be the or the Sensors are located inside the laser processing head or outside be attached to this. Your detector area is preferred aligned at least approximately to the processing point.
The formation of the respective mean values can be done mathematically with the help of a microprocessor or an appropriate one Number of filters are done. The filter passband in be adjustable or adjustable in frequency as desired. Preferably come Low pass filter used as a filter.
A comparator at the inputs serves to form the second means the mean values are. You can choose between the output of the agent value with larger time constant supplying filter and the assigned Input of the comparator is a voltage divider to determine the level of the To be able to change the comparison signal. In this way, the Adjust the sensitivity of the device.
The second means can include another comparator, the one with larger time constant formed mean at an input and a Receives reference voltage at the other input, which is preferably on a constant value can be set. This makes it easy possible to continuously monitor welding or cutting work chen, on the one hand with regard to a closed weld seam and on the other hand for a complete cut.
Es zeigen:The invention is described below with reference to the drawing in described. Show it:

Fig. 3 is a block diagram of an electrical device used in the arrangement of FIG. 1.
Fig. 1 shows a laser machining head 1, passes through the laser beam 2 a. The laser beam 2 strikes a workpiece 3 that is to be processed by it. With the help of the laser beam 2 , the work piece 3 z. B. pierce or cut. Welding workpieces is also possible. To control the distance between the laser processing head 1 and the workpiece 3 is a sensor electrode 4 arranged at the tip of the laser processing head 1 , with the aid of which the capacitance lying between it and the workpiece 3 is measured. For this purpose, a measuring potential is suitably applied to the sensor electrode 4 , which changes as a function of the capacitance present between the sensor electrode 4 and the workpiece 3 , so that the distance control is possible depending on such a change. This is generally known and will not be explained further here.
If the laser beam 2 strikes the workpiece 3 at the processing point 5 , the workpiece is heated very strongly there, so that material material burns when oxygen is supplied. The high temperatures cause lighting effects at processing point 5 , which are measured in terms of intensity. The radiation occurring at the processing point 5 partially passes through the channel provided for the laser beam 2 in the sensor electrode 4 and finally into the laser processing head 1 . It is detected there with the aid of two sensors 6 and 7 , which in the present case are arranged inside the laser processing head 1 . Both detectors 6 and 7 convert the received light from processing point 5 into an electrical signal, which is transmitted via lines 8 and 9 to a converter unit 10 . In the converter unit 10 , the received electrical signal is optionally converted into a frequency signal after amplification, in order then to be transmitted via a line 11 to an evaluation unit 12 . The advantage of the voltage / frequency conversion can be seen in the fact that both the supply voltage for the sensors 6 and 7 and the electrical measurement signal itself can be transmitted via the line 11 .
The electrical measurement signal recorded with the aid of sensors 6 and 7 during the machining of workpiece 3 with the aid of laser beam 2 is shown at the top in FIG. 2. It has a typical profile that arises when a relatively thick workpiece 3 is drilled through with the aid of the laser beam 2 . The deeper the hole is drilled, the less light emerges from the hole to strike the sensors 6 and 7 . This effect is independent of whether the laser beam 2 works in continuous wave mode or is pulsed. The method according to the invention can therefore also be used in both variants.
In the lower part of FIG. 2, however, two signals M1 and M2 are shown, which have been obtained by filtering the measurement signal. The measurement signal M1 represents an average value formed with a smaller time constant, while the measurement signal M2 is an average value formed with a larger time constant. The mean value M2 forms a relatively stable or time-independent reference value with which the mean value M1 can be compared. With regard to the amplitude, the measurement signal M2 is chosen to be smaller than the measurement signal M1 in order to obtain clear results in the case of comparison.
As can be seen in the lower part of FIG. 2, the mean value M1 formed with a smaller time constant decreases relatively quickly at time t1, while the mean value M2 formed with a larger time constant decreases significantly more slowly, so that both mean values M1 and M2 are related to one another can be used to determine whether the laser beam 2 has penetrated the workpiece 3 . This is assumed in the event that the mean value M1 formed with a smaller time constant is smaller than a fraction of approximately 30% to 40% of the mean value M2 formed with a larger time constant. In this case, the workpiece 3 was penetrated by the laser beam 2 .
FIG. 3 shows a block diagram of the circuit used in FIG. 1. The same elements as in Fig. 1 are provided with the same reference numerals and will not be described again. Here, 3, 1 is different from Fig. FIG. In the event that only one sensor 6 is present.
The frequency signal (measurement signal) coming via line 11 is converted back into a voltage signal with the aid of a further converter unit 13 . The measurement signal shown above in FIG. 2 is thus present again at the output of the further converter unit. This measurement signal is applied to a first low-pass filter 14 , which has a cut-off frequency of approximately 10 Hz. At the output of this low-pass filter 14 , the mean value M1, which is constant with a shorter time, then appears. It is fed to a negative input of a comparator 15 , at the output 16 of which the status signal appears.
Furthermore, the measurement signal obtained at the output of the further converter unit 13 is fed to a second filter 17 , the cut-off frequency of which is approximately 1 Hz. At the output of this second filter 17 , the mean value M2 formed with a larger time constant then appears. The output of the second filter 17 is connected to ground via a voltage divider 18 . About a center tap 19 of the voltage adjuster 17 , the constant M2 formed with larger tent is set in its amplitude and transmitted to the positive input of the comparator 15 . If the mean M1 is greater than the mean M2, there is a low signal level at the output 16 of the comparator 15 . If, on the other hand, the mean value M1 drops rapidly compared to the mean value M2, as shown at the tent point t1 in FIG. 2, the output 16 of the comparator 15 is pulled up and the status signal appears, which indicates the complete passage of the laser beam 2 through the workpiece 3 . Depending on the status signal, the further processing of the workpiece 3 can then take place, for. B. a cutting operation.
In the processing unit 12 there is also a second comparator 23 , the positive input of which is connected to the output of the second filter 17 , and the negative input of which is connected to the center tap 20 of a second voltage divider 21 . The voltage regulator 21 formed by a grinding resistor is on one side to ground and with its other side at the output of a reference DC voltage source 22nd A second status signal thus appears at the output 24 of the comparator 23 , which takes into account slower changes in the measured radiation intensity.
Is z. B. the workpiece 3 cut continuously by means of the laser beam 2 , there is only a very small signal at the positive input of the comparator 23 . With a corresponding setting of the voltage divider 20 , 21 , the output 24 of the comparator 23 can therefore be at a low level. However, if the case arises that the workpiece 3 is no longer completely cut as a result of temperature or material changes, the mean value M2 increases and therefore pulls the output 24 of the second comparator 23 to a high level. This output signal change can be used to abort the cutting process, to increase the laser power, etc.
A welding process can also be monitored accordingly. In this case, the mean value M2 is relatively high, so that the output 23 of the second comparator is at a high level if the voltage divider 20 , 21 is set accordingly. If, for some reason, the workpiece 3 is welded through, there is a hole, the amplitude of the mean value M2 decreases and therefore pulls the output 24 of the second comparator 23 to a low level. The change in the output signal of the comparator 23 can then be used to abort the welding process or to reduce the laser power, to increase the relative movement between the laser processing head 1 and the workpiece 3 , etc.
