Description
The invention relates to a method for monitoring more than two similar voltage source units after the Preamble of claim 1. Such a voltage source unit can, for example, one or preferably more elementary battery cells or one or preferred be formed of several elementary fuel cells.
An important area of application of such a method is Fuel cell systems, e.g. B. with H₂ / O₂ fuel cells, the usually deliver a cell voltage of approx. 0.5 V to 1.0 V. To achieve higher voltages and thus greater performance individual fuel cells become a stack connected in series. It is now important to ensure that the fuel cells work effectively and that of Fuel cell stacks delivered performance not individual Fuel cells in impermissible or dangerous Operating states with negative cell voltage forces, but that cell voltages depend on the load condition keep within a certain range. Furthermore it is desirable, defects in the H₂ / O₂ separation unit to be able to determine. To such deterioration of the Recognize the performance of a single fuel cell, it is necessary to have sufficient information about each To get cell voltages. Since the total voltage of the Fuel cell stack a very strong dependence on the shows current load, their voltage changes are greater than the nominal cell voltages so that they are used as a monitoring quantity is not very suitable. Since a single cell voltage monitoring one Requires relatively high effort, procedures are already in place been hitting the entire fuel cell stack in several Subdivide fuel cell blocks, each in turn consist of several individual fuel cells, and the Span each fuel cell block.
Such a method is disclosed in WO 91/19328 known. To make the most reliable statement possible the performance of the fuel cell stack or over the presence of single, weakened or failed distillate One of the several companies there will win fabric cells methods written from the measured voltages of the battery rieblock determined an average value, with which the individual chip of the fuel cell blocks are compared. Once egg ne single voltage is smaller by more than a predetermined amount as the mean value serving as the reference voltage, a issued corresponding warning. It can also be provided to issue a warning even if a single voltage nes fuel cell block under a predetermined, fixed Limit falls that the product from the number of individual Fuel cells per fuel cell block with one for one individual fuel cell required minimum voltage ent speaks. If the warning condition persists for a period of time, appropriate steps are taken, such as sub refraction of the fuel supply for the fuel cells, Abkop leveling the load, triggering an acoustic or visual alarm etc. With this known method, in the event that the voltages of the plurality of fuel cell blocks decrease often no warning as long as all tensions are still over the fixed minimum value, because it reduces itself lower voltage of the majority of the fuel cell blocks the mean value of the fuel cell block voltages drops markedly takes.
In one described in the published patent application DE 31 46 141 A1 level monitoring device for a battery with several The individual chips become similar voltage source units voltage source units measured and in one close diagnostic device in pairs chen. As soon as a difference voltage occurs in this comparison occurs from their value and polarity as well as the operation condition of the entire battery conclusions about errors or Interference sources in the differential voltage that has occurred associated voltage source units.
For a battery disclosed in US 4,823,086 The package drop will be the voltage drop at each individual bat terie measured and with a normal value of the voltage drop compared for reference. As soon as there is a deviation corresponding warning information is generated.
The published patent application DT 21 48 628 describes a method for Cell voltage monitoring of a battery proposed, at wel chem ver verges two voltage parts of the battery with their mean be compared and a signal is given as soon as the deviation a cell voltage from this mean reached contribution.
In the published patent application DE 43 38 178 A1 there is an arrangement to monitor the condition of fuel cell modules seen in which the fuel cells in at least two par allel series connected with the same number of cells are connected in series, with the rows in branches egg ner bridge circuit split and with at least one off value arrangement, which are those between the two Tapped voltage or the current evaluates and at Deviations beyond the permissible limits result in an error message generated.
The invention is a technical problem of providing based on a method of the type mentioned at the beginning, with which a declining performance or a failure a little at least one of the several voltage source units with ver equally effortless can be reliably recognized.
This problem is solved by a method with the characteristics of Claim 1 solved. On the one hand, it provides for the individual voltages of the voltage source units with one from their mean value compare the limit value and issue warning information give as soon as the single voltage of a voltage source unit has fallen below the limit. The limit can be preferred as the product of a factor less than one with the mean voltage can be selected. This warning speaks in particular in cases where only a minor part of the span Power source units decreased in their performance has, since then the mean value of this does not influence it too much is flowing. On the other hand, the method then generates a warning formation if the difference between the largest and the smallest individual voltage has a predeterminable second limit value exceeds. In this way, it is also possible to was warned at which the majority of the voltage sources units, but not all, in terms of their performance have decreased noticeably. Because in this case, too the mean voltage drops noticeably, so that no warning due to a drop below the mean voltage Single voltage occurs, but the difference between increases rule the smallest single voltage and the z. B. approximately largest remaining at the value of maximum performance Single tension.
In a development of the method according to claim 2, a two-stage warning information coupled to the mean voltage generation provided. For this purpose, two become co-workers limit values provided by each Limit as the product of a preselected factor with the mean value is set, with both factors being different sizes and are between zero and one. This results in the Possibility of graded measures in the event of worsening conditions to take the drive behavior of the voltage source units. The Two levels create enough scope for such application-dependent system interventions in the operating process of Power source units between the first and the second Warning level.
In a further embodiment of the method according to claim 3 can the two factors determining the limits for the two Warning levels through previous simulation and statistical evaluation different operating states of the voltage source unit ten so that they are then in real Be suitable for the different possible states. It It is then sufficient to determine these two factors, which have been determined in advance to be changed without changing the fluctuating operating conditions stands must be adjusted.
In a further development of the invention according to claim 4, after triggering the second warning level, the gas supply for the fuel cell stack increased and / or the electrical load reduced men.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is in the drawing voltage and is described below.
The only figure shows a program flow chart of a process rens for cell block voltage monitoring for a fuel cell system.
The procedure shown in its program flow can be used use, with comparatively little effort information about the respective operating and load status of fuel cells of a fuel cell system. This will be Fuel cell system in several fuel cell blocks under divides, typically between two and eight each ne include fuel cells. By measuring tips on the corresponding Coal collectors on each fuel cell block supplied by this block voltage. By a suitable one Evaluation of these cell block voltage signals, it is with the Ver drive possible, falling below a minimum value to recognize a fuel cell block and lo this block calibrate and if the voltage drops below a minimum a block damage its cells by increasing the Gas supply or by reducing or switching off the elec to avoid tric load. This is guaranteed by the following more precisely described sequence of the process, its hardware and Software can be implemented on a process control system, what the specialist with knowledge of the following mode of operation is possible in various conventional ways.
In a first step (1), the maximum voltage value (U max ) and the minimum voltage value (U min ) are first determined from the measured cell block voltages and the arithmetic mean value (U M ) of all cell block voltages is determined. From the values for the maximum cell block voltage (U max ) and the minimum cell block voltage (U min ), their difference (dU max = U max -U min ) is calculated as the maximum difference between two cell block voltages. Then, in two parallel steps (2, 3), a first limit value (G1) and a second limit value (G2) are defined by multiplying the mean voltage (U M ) by a first factor (F1) and a second factor (F2). Both factors (F1, F2) are between zero and one, the first factor (F1) being greater than the second (F2). These two limit values (G1, G2), which depend on the mean value voltage, also serve as reference voltages. Alternatively, the second limit value (G2) can also be set to a fixed minimum value required for the cell block voltages, regardless of the mean voltage (U M ).
This is followed by three queries in parallel, first (step 4) whether the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) is less than the first limit value (G1), second (step 5) whether the maximum block voltage difference (dU max ) is greater than one predetermined third limit value (G3), and third (step 7) whether the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) is less than the second limit value (G2). If the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) falls below the first limit value (G1), a first detection bit (B1), which is otherwise set to the value zero, is set to one. Analogously, a second detection bit (B2), which is otherwise set to zero, is set to one if the maximum cell block voltage difference (dU max ) has exceeded the third limit value (G3), which is matched to the respective application as a fixed voltage value is specified. Alternatively, it is also possible to specify this limit value (G3) as a function of the mean cell block voltage (U M ). In a subsequent step (6), the two detection bits (B1, B2) are OR-linked, whereupon an alarm signal (A1) is emitted if at least one of the two detection bits (B1, B2) has the value one. In this way, an excessive voltage drop in one or more fuel cells can be reliably detected via the voltage drop thereby induced in the associated fuel cell blocks. When the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) falls below the first limit value (G1), in particular those cases are detected in which the voltage of one block has dropped noticeably below the voltage values of the majority of the other blocks. By comparing the maximum voltage difference (dU max ) with the third limit value (G3), on the other hand, those cases are detected in which a majority of the sampled cell block voltages have dropped noticeably compared to the voltage values of one or a few less, yet relatively powerful cell blocks .
Since the second limit value (G2) is less than the first (G1), the further query whether the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) is less than the second limit value (G2) will only be answered in the affirmative if already before an alarm warning (A1) was issued due to the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) falling below the first limit value (G1). If the minimum cell block voltage (U min ) also falls below this second limit value (G2), a second alarm signal (A2) is emitted as the second warning level. By suitable selection of the factors (F1, F2) for the two limit values (G1, G2), it is possible to use the same values for these factors (F1, F2) for the different load cases of the fuel cell system, which simplifies the implementation effort. The selection of suitable values for the factors (F1, F2) is carried out by prior simulation and statistical evaluation of cell voltages under different loading conditions of the fuel cell system.
The width of the range between the two limit values (G1, G2) is chosen so that there is sufficient scope for intervention in the fuel cell operation between triggering the first (A1) and possibly a subsequent triggering of the second warning message (A2) . During this period, the user can therefore intervene appropriately in the system. He is supported by the possibility created by the method, not shown in more detail, by an additional logical evaluation of the signals with regard to the minimum (U min ) and the maximum cell block voltage (U max ) to determine the power-weakening cell block causing the warning message and this to be able to display it visually. If necessary, the triggering of the alarm signal (A1) of the first stage can be accompanied by an automatic system intervention, for example by automatically increasing the gas supply for the fuel cell block concerned. After generation of the second alarm signal (A2) it is also preferably provided that the fuel cell control system automatically increases the gas supply for the fuel cell block identified as being too weak and / or reduces the electrical load coupled to it in whole or in part.
According to the method, the measurement and interrogation process shown is repeated clocked by the associated process control system, z. B. with a cycle time of 5 ms. The dependence of the first (G1) and possibly also the second (G2) and / or the third limit value (G3) on the mean value (U M ) of the cell block voltages ensures that the detection of reduced performance of a cell block compared to other cell blocks does not depend on fluctuations in the Load state of the fuel cell system is impaired.
Overall, this procedure is relatively inexpensive reliable monitoring of the performance of the Fuel cell system reached.
It is understood that the application of the Ver driving as well as within the scope of the claims modifications of this invention do not lie in in multi-cell blocks divided fuel cell systems be is limited. The method according to the invention is generally suitable mine also for voltage monitoring of individual fuel cells a fuel cell stack. In addition, it is not on burning limited cell systems, but also for other chip power source systems, such as multi-cell battery systems bar.
