Abstract

The catalyst for decomposition of H2O2 in aq. soln. comprises a substrate body carrying a layer of Pt formed by sputtering.

Description

The invention relates to a catalyst for the decomposition of H₂O₂ in an aqueous solution, which is formed by a platinum-coated molded body and which as a catalyst for the decomposition of residual hydrogen peroxide in one aqueous contact lens care is used.

From the German patent specification 24 25 714 it is known to contact lenses, in particular special soft contact lenses, using hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous, esp to sterilize special 3% aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution. To beseiti Residues of hydrogen peroxide are removed using a decomposer tion catalyst decomposed in water and oxygen. This decomposition can also in the treatment bath for sterilizing and disinfecting the con tactical lens.

The catalyst has a catalytically inactive support material on which one catalytically active layer is applied. This layer is in the well-known kata analyzer made of electrolytically deposited platinum black.

The object of the invention is to provide a catalyst of the type mentioned create an improved catalyti in terms of contact lens care effect.

This object is achieved in that the platinum layer by Sputtering (sputtering) is formed on the molded body.

This layer is obtained by using a platinum target with high energy Bombarded ions of an inert substance such as argon, neon and the like is so that platinum in pure form as a platinum layer on the molded body separates. The molded body can be made of plastic or of another suitable Neten carrier material such as ceramic and the like. The sputtering off The separated platinum layer has a high adhesive strength on the molded body and can be formed in a constant thickness as a thin film. The same permanent thin layer with high purity can be reproduced in its thickness Apply bar controlled by appropriate sputtering procedures. Above all, the platinum layer can be dimensioned in such a way that when in use of the catalyst in aqueous, in particular 3% hydrogen peroxide maintenance system can be used. The layer can be designed so that one out sufficient sterilizing effect due to the hydrogen peroxide to be treated delenden contact lenses, especially soft contact lenses, is achieved at subsequent decomposition of residual hydrogen peroxide still present in the Treatment solution.

Eine bevorzugte Schicht dicke für die Platinschicht liegt im Bereich von 0,1 bis 1 g/m².To improve the adhesive strength of the platinum layer on the molded body can the platinum layer is applied to a TiOxNy base on the molded body be. The molded body can also have a rough surface, the Platinum layer, which is applied in the form of a thin film, this surface reproduces surface roughness, so that with a small volume of the molded body  sufficient catalytically active surface is achieved. A preferred layer thickness for the platinum layer is in the range of 0.1 to 1 g / m².

The catalyst can preferably be part of a contact lens care system be in which the contact lens is placed in a container and in this container with the help of an aqueous care solution with 3% hydrogen peroxide content the care and sterilization of the contact lens is carried out. The platinum layer is adjusted in such a way that a sufficient on time of action of the hydrogen peroxide for disinfection of those to be treated Contact lenses in the container is reached and that subsequently to the disinfect treatment residual hydrogen peroxide effectively in components Water and oxygen is decomposed.
