In der Patentschrift 190292 ist ein Verfahren zur Darstellung rotvioletter bis blauvioletter Küpenfarbstoffe beschrieben, darin bestehend, daß 3-Oxy (i)thionaphten bzw. SaIicylthioessigsäure (Phenylthioglycol-o-carbonsäure) mit a-Isatinanilid oder dessen Homologen kondensiert wird. Es wurde nun weiter gefunden, daß man zu einem ebenfalls violetten Küpenfarbstoff gelangt durch Kondensation von 3-Oxy(i)thionaphten mit dem im D. R. In eine warme Lösung von 15 TeilenIn a warm solution of 15 parts
ao 3-Oxy(i)thionaphten in 200 bis 300 Teilen Alkohol trägt man das aus 11 Teilen a-Isatinanilid gemäß Verfahren der Patentschrift 131934 erhältliche a-Thioisatin in noch feuchtem Zustande ein und erhitzt unter Rückfluß während 2 bis 3 Stunden zum Kochen, wobei beträchtliche Mengen Schwefelwasserstoff entweichen und die Lösung sich schön violett färbt unter gleichzeitiger Ausscheidung von violetten glänzenden Kriställchen. Man läßt hierauf erkalten, filtriert den in kristallisierter Form abgeschiedenen Farbstoff ab und trocknet. Das so erhaltene Produkt ist noch durch geringe Mengen Indigo verunreinigt, von welchen es durch Umkristallisieren aus Benzol , worin das neue Kondensationsprodukt leicht löslich ist, getrennt wird. Der in dieser Weise gereinigte Farbstoff bildet ein schön violettes Kristallpulver, welches sich in konzentrierter Schwefelsäure mit grünblauer Farbe löst. Beim Verdünnen der schwefelsauren Lösung mit Wasser fällt der Farbstoff unverändert in Form violetter Flocken wieder aus. In heißem Alkohol löst er sich leicht mit blauvioletter Farbe, ziemlich leicht in kaltem, sehr leicht in heißem Benzol mit rotvioletter Farbe und gelbbrauner Fluorescenz. Beim Behandeln mit alkalischen Reduktionsmitteln, wie z. B. Natronlauge und Natriumhydrosulfit liefert der Farbstoff eine blaue, hellgelb gefärbte Küpe, aus welcher ungebeizte Baumwolle sehr egal in lebhaften violetten Nuancen angefärbt wird.
