Zum Zwecke der Abkühlung der Gase wird beispielsweise die Gasaustrittsöffnung durch ein Metallgitter oder-maschengewebe abgeschlossen, das die Abkühlung der Gase bewirkt. Da es nun aber erforderlich ist, daß die Löscheinrichtung infolge des Nachlassen der gasabgebenden Eigenschaften des für die Löschkammer verwendeten Isolierstoffes in gewissen Zeitabständen ausgewechselt werden müssen, kann eine Verwechslung von benutzten oder unbenutzten Löschpatronen verhängnisvolle Folgen haben. Werden gut ausgenutzte, d. h. annähernd verbrauchte Löschpatronen mit den Auswechselexemplaren vertauscht, d. h. irrtümlich als unbenutzte angesehen und erneut eingesetzt, dann ist mit größter Wahrscheinlichkeit mit einem Versagen des Lasttrennschalters zu rechnen. Dieses Versagen kann zu einem satten Kurzschluß und zu einem freibrennenden Lichtbogen führen.
