Abstract

Sealing ring, eg of PTFE which is located in a groove in one of the facing surfaces of two concentrically telescoped members, e.g. of valve in which the base of the groove is deeper at one end than the other. The sealing ring is a loose fit in the deeper end of the groove, in which it is located while the members are heated, e.g. to effect a welding operation. After cooling the ring is moved to the shallower end where it is a tight fit and establishes a seal between the two surfaces.
