Zusatz zum Patente 180052 vom 28. September 1905.Addendum to patent 180052 of September 28, 1905.
Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 3. Januar 1906 ab. Längste Dauer:. 27. September 1920.Patented in the German Empire on January 3, 1906. Longest duration: September 27, 1920.
The invention relates to an embodiment of the process for the electrolysis of water-containing nitric acid, protected by patent 180052, for the purpose of high concentration, according to which water-containing nitric acid is converted into any degree of concentration, at the expense of part of this acid, by using this dilute nitric acid electrolyzed and the nitrogen oxides formed at the cathode are transferred to the anolyte, where they are oxidized to the monohydrate HNO 3.
The oxidation produces N 2 O b , which together with water forms the monohydrate HNO 3 , according to the formula: N 2 O 5 + H 2 O = 2 HN O 3 ; the water required for this is taken from the dilute acid. There is thus an enrichment of HN O 3, which can be so far that finally the anolyte 'only consists of the monohydrate HNO 3.
Gemäß vorliegender Erfindung wird nunIn accordance with the present invention, now
Der hierdurch erreichte neue technische Effekt besteht darin, daß die bei den Nitrierungen resultierende Abfallsäure entweder ganz öder zum größten Teil wieder auf die Konzentration der ursprünglich verwendeten Säure gebracht wird.this process is used, so-called, in the manufacture of explosives and in others Waste acid resulting from nitrations, which is mixed from dilute sulfuric acid with dilute nitric acid is made to regenerate by acting as the anolyte this waste acid and diluted nitric acid are used as the catholyte. The new technical effect achieved in this way is that of the nitriding resulting waste acid either completely or for the most part back on the Concentration of the acid originally used is brought.
The so-called nitrating acid usually consists of a mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid with concentrated nitric acid. It suffers from the nitration of a loss of nitric acid and at the same time experiences an enrichment with water. The sulfuric acid is added here in order to draw that water to itself: and to enable the nitric acid to be further usable for nitration purposes. Nevertheless, a considerable amount of nitric acid remains and the,. Acid that is no longer capable of nitration, as so-called "waste acid", has to be broken down into its components in a laborious manner without being able to recover the concentrated acids from it. The manufacture of explosives must therefore purchase new quantities of acid of both types and sell the waste acid as a relatively low-value waste product, an evil which has been eliminated by the present new process.
Übrigens haftet demselben ein weiterer, praktisch sehr wertvoller Vorteil an, insofern als bei dem neuen Verfahren mit erheblichIncidentally, there is another, practically very valuable advantage attached to it, insofar than with the new process
geringerem Stromverbrauch als bei der Konzentrierung reiner Salpetersäure gearbeitet werden kann.lower power consumption than when concentrating pure nitric acid can be worked.
Die zu regenerierende Abfallsäure löst nämlich die an der Kathode entstehenden Stickstoffoxyde ebenso rasch und energisch wie reine Salpetersäure, besitzt dabei aber wegen des Gehalts an Schwefelsaurerem erheblich besseres Leitungsvermögen, so daßThe waste acid to be regenerated dissolves the acid produced at the cathode Oxides of nitrogen just as quickly and energetically as pure nitric acid, but possesses it because of the content of sulfuric acid considerably better conductivity, so that
ίο der Widerstand der Flüssigkeit und infolgedessen auch der Stromverbrauch gegenüber demjenigen bei Anwendung reiner Salpetersäure erheblich herabgemindert wird.ίο the resistance of the liquid and as a result also the power consumption compared to that when using pure nitric acid is considerably reduced.
Any suitable apparatus, in particular but the device described in patent 180052 can be used. In the case of the latter, a second filling tube is then advantageous on the anode side of the apparatus provided so that waste acid and dilute nitric acid are separated from each other can be inserted into the apparatus.
