Man
aufweisen.Because of their high light and weather fastness, iron oxide pigments have been important color bodies for pigmenting paints and plastics for years. A distinction is made here - with regard to the coloristic properties of the various tints, opaque and translucent pigments, the translucent iron oxides for various purposes, e.g. B. for the production of so-called metal gloss effects and for the transparent coloring of plastic rolls are important. It has been shown, however, that the translucent iron oxide pigments on the market have a very hard structure and poor dispersibility compared with the opaque types.
The production of transparent iron oxide pigments is in itself by - become known a number of methods, however. These processes either have the disadvantage that they give products which are hard and difficult to disperse, or they contain additives which limit their field of application because of poor compatibility with the large number of possible binders or the deterioration of the paint film when exposed to weathering due to the additives.
The present invention relates to the production of iron oxide pigments which do not have the disadvantages mentioned. It has been found that easily dispersible, transparent iron oxide red pigments of the alpha modification can be produced by oxidation of iron (I1) salt solutions to iron (III) salt solutions, subsequent precipitation of the iron hydroxides with alkalis; filtration, washing, drying and calcination of the hydroxides at 500 to 700'C, the process according to the invention being characterized in that antimony (III) salts are added before the precipitation of the oxidized iron (II) salt solution and, after the precipitation, by adding a further amount of iron (II) - salt solution iron (I1) hydroxides can be applied to the present mixed precipitation of iron (III) hydroxides and antimony (III) salt hydrolysates by adding alkalis.
bekannter Weise, z. B. durch Einblasen von Luft, Sauerstoff oder Einsatz oxydierender
Agenzien durchgeführt. Die verfahrensgemäß einzusetzenden Antimonverbindungen erhält
man z.
The oxidation of the iron n_ (I1) salt solution used is carried out in a manner known per se, for. B. carried out by blowing air, oxygen or the use of oxidizing agents. The antimony compounds to be used according to the method are obtained, for. B. by dissolving antimony oxide in concentrated acids. The alkalis used for the precipitation are those commonly used in the production of iron oxide pigments, e.g. B. sodium carbonate. - The limits on the, addition of antimony salt solutions or of iron (I1) salt solutions by the coprecipitation be down determined by the extent of desired effectiveness in transparency and dispersibility. The upper limits are additionally determined by financial considerations with regard to the price of the antimony compounds. Particularly good results are obtained when the ratio of the initially used iron salts (calculated as Fe, 0,) to antimony (III) salt (calculated as Sb, 0,) to the iron (II) salt to be added later according to the process (again as Fe, 0,) 57.4 Fep0 ,: 2.1 Sb, O ,: 2.4 Fe, 0, entrust.

Die Oxydation dauert 8 bis 10 Stunden. Es muß hierbei dafür gesorgt
