Description
Acid-containing tobacco smoke filter body made of cellulose acetate and process for its manufacture. The impregnation of cigarette filters with acids has been known for a long time. So are smoke filter bodies according to the German Auslegeschrift 1 051 182 produced by the cellulose filter material before the production of the filter body through baths of aqueous solutions of mineral acids as well as organic acids. The French patent specification 855 364 contains a description of filter cartridges that contain solid organic acids and their salts, including edible acids. In British patent specification 1 029 717 cigarette filters for tar reduction are previously described, the 5 to Contains 40 percent by weight of food acids? those in the form of aqueous solutions in the filter material have been introduced, this being dried prior to packaging into filters will.
The present invention relates to tobacco smoke filter bodies containing acid made of cellulose acetate with increased filter retention for basic substances; in particular Nicotine, characterized in that the filter dissolved in Triac_etin Contains food acids. In its most expedient embodiment, the tobacco smoke filter body contains 5 to 30% by weight of edible acids dissolved in triacetin. In the tobacco smoke filter body are here, based on the filter weight, 0.3 to 3 wt.%, preferably 1 to Contains 2% by weight of edible acids.
It has been known for a number of years that nicotine is derived from tobacco smoke Acetate filters are selectively retained when the pH of the smoke is used Tobacco blend is relatively high. A selective retention of nicotine and according to the invention, however, other basic smoke ingredients also occur if the pH of the filter is sufficiently below the pH of the smoke the tobacco mixture used. So you can through the tobacco smoke filter body according to the invention also for tobacco blends with a pH value in the normal = range, i.e. around pH 5, enjoy selective nicotine retention, making significant progress has been achieved.
Dissolving the edible acids in triacetin is particularly advantageous because the triacetin has to be applied in any case for filter solidification as the gelulose acetate dew during filter manufacture. Since in Germany the gigarettes are subject to the food law, only the so-called edible acids, which are themselves food in the sense of the food law, may be used for this purpose. These are acetic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid and lactic acid. The acetic acid, which is easily soluble in triacetin, is less suitable for reasons of smell and taste. The commercially available 90% lactic acid can be mixed with triacetin in any ratio. Citric acid is only about 5% soluble at room temperature, but malic acid and tartaric acid are very poorly soluble. However, one can also use these three acids, however. they are dissolved in triacetin at temperatures between 1000 and 130 ° C. and their solution in triacetin is applied to the filter rope at temperatures between 0o and 80 ° C., preferably 600 and 80 ° C. Since these last-mentioned acids are polybasic acids, their use is particularly favorable because, in relation to the 90% lactic acid, quantities of only around 60% are sufficient to achieve the same degree of acidity in the filter.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that d : b the aforementioned acids in additions of 5-30% by weight, based on the triacetin used, that is, in amounts of 0.3-3.0%, based on the filter weight, are sufficient to achieve the Significantly improve filter retention. It was also found that the hardening of the filters is not noticeably influenced by the acid content of the triacetin used. It is therefore sufficient in practice if, instead of the previously customary amounts of triacetin d: b, the same amounts of acid-containing triacetin are used in the manufacture of the filter. A further increase in the amount of acid used is not necessary, as additional amounts of acid no longer significantly increase nicotine retention.
