in Verbindung
Aminoplastharzvorkondensate in organischer Lösung enthalten.
Coating agent based on acrylic ester copolymers Die
The invention relates to thermosetting coating compositions with a particularly low curing temperature
based on acrylic ester copolymers in conjunction with aminoplast resin precondensates.
Thermosetting coating agents suitable for combination with condensation resins
contain modified acrylate resins are already known. In particular, such
thermosetting coating agents are used, the acrylate resin content of which consists of copolymers
exists, which contain N-methylol ether groups and thus a similar reaction behavior
show how the thermosetting resins used particularly frequently as condensation resins
Aminoplasts. However, the coating agents composed in this way harden
fast enough and to a sufficient extent only at temperatures above 150 ° C.
It has also been proposed to use copolymers which, in addition to N-methylol ether groups
still contain free carboxyl and / or hydroxyl groups,
in connection
to be used with aminoplast resin precondensates; such coating agents can already
hardened at 130 to 140 ° C. It has now been found that thermosetting coating agents
particularly advantageous properties based on acrylic ester copolymers
and in particular harden and / or at lower than usual temperatures
require shorter curing tents when 1) 50 to 90 weight percent based
on the total content of binders, copolymers from a) 10 to 30 percent by weight
of monoesters of acrylic or methacrylic acid with aliphatic, divalent, 2
alcohols containing up to 6 carbon atoms, b) 40 to 80 percent by weight of acrylic acid tert-butyl ester
and / or methyl methacrylate, c) 0 to 45 weight percent styrene, d) optionally
up to 10 percent by weight of other copolymerizable unsaturated compounds
and 2) 10 to 50 percent by weight, based on the total content of binders,
Aminoplast resin precondensates contained in organic solution. The copolymers
(1) are in a manner known per se in suitable solvents by copolymerization
of the monomers produced. It is generally such a solvent from the start
to use that later for the application of the
Copolymers as
Coating agents are suitable. Such solvents are e.g. aliphatic esters,
such as ethyl glycol acetate, methyl glycol acetate or ethyl acetate; aromatic hydrocarbons,
such as xylene or toluene; Ketones such as methyl ethyl ketone or cyclohexanone and aliphatic
Primary, secondary or tertiary alcohols such as n-propanol, n-butanol and its isomers.
For some applications it can be advantageous to use mixtures of solvents
to use.
der Crotonsäure, der Maleinsäure; ferner Vinylhalogenide wie Vinylchlorid; Vinylidencyanid;
copolymerisierbare äthylenisch ungesättigte Nitrile, wie Acrylnitril und Methacrylnitril;
The polymerization takes place at 30 to 1000C using conventional
Polymerization catalysts such as peroxides, azo compounds or redox systems,
advantageously in the presence of regulators such as mercaptans or disulfides in
Quantities of 1 to 5 percent by weight, preferably 2 to 4 percent by weight. The copolymers
(1) then generally have a K value between 10 and 30, in particular
between 12.5 and 25. To those used according to the invention mentioned under (1)
The following is to be said of copolymers: The mentioned monoesters (1a) of acrylic acid
and / or methacrylic acid with aliphatic dihydric alcohols are esters of
aliphatic diols in which only one hydroxyl group with the acrylic or methacrylic acid ester
connected is. Suitable compounds of this type are monoesters of (meth) acrylic acid
and ethylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, 1,2-propanediol, butanediol,
Pentadiols
or hexanediols. A preferred compound of this type is butanediol (-1,4) monoacrylate.
Such monomers (1a) according to the invention are generally used in amounts of 5 to
30, in particular from 10 to 25, percent by weight, based on the total amount
Comonomers, used. The properties of the copolymers can be used for special
Requirements-the practice can be varied to a limited extent in that as
Comonomers (1d) are suitable in amounts of up to 10 percent by weight of the total monomers
other olefinically unsaturated monomers are polymerized in during production
will. Olefinically unsaturated monomers that do not have hydroxyl groups are suitable
reactive groups included. Such monomers are, for example, esters of d, ß-unsaturated
Carboxylic acids such as esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid, e.g. methyl acrylate,
insofar as they are not monomers mentioned under (1b); Esters of other olefinically unsaturated
Carboxylic acids and dicarboxylic acids, such as esters of chloroacrylic acid, fumaric acid,
crotonic acid, maleic acid; also vinyl halides such as vinyl chloride; Vinylidenecyanide;
copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated nitriles such as acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile;
Vinyl esters such as vinyl acetate. As aminoplast resin precondensates for the inventive

Stoving temperatures of 75 to 130 ° C., preferably 90 to 120 ° C., are sufficient. The stoving time is about 10 to 90 minutes, depending on the temperature. For example, one hour at 120 ° C., coatings are obtained which are elastic, lightfast, have good scratch resistance and have a high gloss. With the addition of inorganic or organic acids, such as phosphoric acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid or maleic acid, in amounts of 0.1 to 4 percent by weight, preferably 0.5 to 2 percent by weight, stoving temperatures of about 80 ° C. are sufficient. Such paints are suitable, for example, for painting sensitive household appliances, automobile parts and for producing effect paints. A valuable enrichment of the technical possibilities arises from the possibility, for example, of continuously coating papers with the coating agents according to the invention, drying times of 30 seconds and less being achieved until they are non-blocking, ie until a degree of drying is reached at which paper webs are rolled up undamaged can. The parts mentioned in the examples are parts by weight. The specified K values were determined on 2 percent by weight solutions of the copolymers in dimethylformamide by the method of H. Fikentscher, Cellulose-Chemie XIII, 58 (1932). Example 1 a) Preparation of the copolymer From a solution of 60 parts of ethylene glycol monoacrylate, 180 parts of tert-butyl acrylate, 60 parts of Styro4, 12 parts of diisopropylaanthogen disulfide, 4 parts of azodi (isobutyronitrile) in 162 parts of ethyl glycol acetate, about one third is heated with stirring and with the exclusion of oxygen in a polymerization vessel to 85 to 90 ° C. After the start of the polymerization, the remainder is added over the course of 30 minutes. The temperature of the polymerization batch is then maintained at 90 ° C. for a further 8 hours, 4 parts of azodi (isobutyronitrile) each being added to it after one hour, three hours and five hours. A 64% solution of a copolymer is obtained with a K value of 13.5. b) Preparation of a stoving enamel 100 parts of the 64% strength copolymer solution are mixed with 46 parts of a 60% strength solution in isobutanol of a melamine-formaldehyde precondensate which is etherified with isobutanol. After the addition of 5.5 parts of a 30% strength maleic acid solution in butanol, the resulting mixture is brushed onto rustproof iron sheets and baked for 30 minutes at 800 ° C., 1000 ° C. and 1200 ° C. The properties of the coatings produced in this way are summarized in the table below. Baking temperature Pendulum hardness Erichsen value

1000C 183 10.2
1200C 185 8.7
Example 2 From 30 parts of 1,4-buta diol monoacrylate, 195 parts of acrylic acid tert-butyl ester, 75 parts of styrene, 9 parts of diisopropylxanthogen disulfide, 3 parts of azodi (isobutyronitrile) and 162 parts of xylene, a 64, 6% solution of a copolymer with a K value of 14.1. Production of a coating agent for paper coating A mixture of 60 parts of this copolymer solution, 15 parts of a 60% solution of a butanol-etherified urea-F-maldehyde precondensate in alcohol, 2.6 parts of a 10% solution of p-Toluenesulfonic acid in alcohol and 17.4 parts of alcohol is spread onto printed art paper with a doctor blade and heated for 30 seconds at 1200C in a drying tunnel. The result is high-gloss, non-blocking paint films which are practically odorless, adhere extremely well and also have very good lightfastness.
